im pretty sure the 1800x and 1600x are the same chip. the 1600x would be a sub par batch of 1800x's. they turn off 2 cores and sell it cheaper. there will probably be some sort of hack to turn on the other 2 cores if your chip is good.

all chip makers do this. One high end chip that is dumbed down and sold at different prices. Some batches of chips come out fucked up. So they disable whatever cores are broke on the entire batch and sell those as 6 core, 4 core, 3 core.

I think nvidia high end chip is called tesla....This is their cgi card. Then they either disable function by the pcb board itself, bios, or physically disabling parts of the chip. You used to be able to flash a quadro bios into a nvidia gaming card and unlock all the hidden features and get better performance in maya/3dsmax etc.

you average about 100fps with your i5 but with what GPU ?

in most recent games GPU is MUCH MUCH more important then CPU, including QC.

Some people on the beta forum are reporting the opposite interestingly. Their CPUs are the limiting factor in getting more frames.

It's because his graphics card is good that the limiting factor is the single threaded performance of the CPU.

If I plugged that same graphics card into my machine, I'd get much worse FPS than he does because of the CPU difference.

But yeah, this is evidence that at 240FPS, this game uses a ton of CPU.

I think he's using ultra settings or something---only because he mentioned the ability to get more FPS (than he gets) with a lesser card by using low settings.

ah yeah, I see what you mean; I reckon it's CPU-bound too, a lot of modern titles are. Hopefully one day it won't always be a limiting factor on single-core performance ;)

I have i5-6500 4 cores at 3.20GHz up to 3.60GHz with turboboost

and a GTX 970 4GB by Zotac
and 16GB of DDR4 RAM by Crucial (4x 4GB)

I play on lowest settings, 1920x1080 100% renderscale

Didn't use fraps or any other software to check my FPS

The game felt smooth enough, felt like i was getting 120-160fps

I have a 144hz monitor, so i need 144fps

Do you think that i was actually getting less FPS than i thought ? I mean the game felt smooth but perhaps i was getting drops to below 100fps and didn't notice it (cause i'm retarded :D)

Check with fraps. Takes like 2 minutes to set up. It's not in the least bit complicated.

You can even run a benchmark with it that will tell you average, maximum, and minimum FPS. You just press a key sequence while in the game, and it runs the benchmark in the background for a preconfigured amount of time. It's good.

But I wouldn't be surprised if you are getting that frame rate with those settings and that hardware. The real question is what it dips to in the worst case.

Yes, render scale does help improve frame rate. I'm on 50%.

I think your CPU is good, so I think the graphics card upgrade would help---if you even need it.

Bethesda now has a partnership with AMD.
It will be optimized for Ryzen indeed. It was demoed on PAX running on 1800X + RX480 machines. It was confirmed by idSoftware too.

You are better off getting a (second hand) 3770K + GTX 1070 OC imo.

Cheaper overall; CPU costs less and you keep the motherboard (I assume it's a Z-chipset because of the 3570K, so you can run your CPU @ 4-4.5 GHz) + you don't have to get new RAM, while getting a better VGA than RX580 at the same time.
