Hi there,
I own an Asus g73sw (w/ gtx 460m) which has HDMI and VGA ports.

I bought a VG248QE for 120hz lightboost stuff. But apparently HDMI doesnt support 1080p@120hz. So, I'm about to return it.

Here I am asking for another display suggestion which has lowest input lag possible. Please correct me if I am wrong but afaik, I'll have to go with a 60hz display since I don't have a DVI Dual channel port, or a DisplayPort.

I do 3D modelling as well as gaming (QL, Warsow mostly), so I'm gonna need at least a 24" one. I'll quite happily go with a 27" however, I can always run games in windowed mode.

Why would you do that? There is nothing wrong with the monitor. It's your laptop. 120hz is only possible on the DVI port. That is still a awesome monitor and you can use it when you upgrade later.

You maybe right. I thought about that too, but had second thoughts..

Well I bought the laptop 2 years ago and it looks like I'm not gonna buy a new computer for a while since this does the job pretty well.

In the meantime I'm sure display technologies will go on improving with a nice persistent curve. Most probably, 2 years from now we will be looking at different products that will be closer to CRT dynamics.

I think you are correct, you don't have enough bandwidth to have 120hz without a DVI-D Dual link or a displayport. Don't know anyone who made 120hz work with DP though.

you are partly correct, you can't have 120/144hz at full resolution, but can use 120/144hz at lower resolutions which are ok for games like quake or warsow
the only thing im not sure is if it's possible to use lightboost at lower resolutions, as far as i remember it is

Uh, that's weird because whenever I try to change the refresh rate to 100/120 @ 720p, it reverts back to 85hz@1080p. Doesn't stay on 720

That's another weird stuff: the monitor is happier with 85hz (which I was only able to get with EVGA overclock utility/Pixel overclock). There's flickering in the dark colors when it's @60hz, but none @ 85hz

Edit: flickering is still there on 85hz

try pressing test like this http://take.ms/fqt6jm and check what the information menu on your monitor says
or try CVT/GTF if this doesnt work
