Sensitivity calculation in Q3A (22 comments)

So. I've searched the ESR forums and googled about the subject of sensitivity calculation in Q3A, but couldn't find usefull info on it. The problem I have is, that I'm going to a local LAN with a Q3A-Tournament (CPMA but vq3 physics) and now I want to transfer my Quake Live sensitivity 1:1 into Q3A.

Here are my specs:

Mouse: Razer DeathAdder 3.5G @ 450 DPI/1000Hz & 5,5 Sens
Mousepad: Roccat Tito
OS: Windows XP with MouseFix & 6/11 Sens
Quake Live Settings:
m_cpi 270
in_mouse 2
m_filter 0
sensitivity 7.83
m_pitch "0.022"
m_yaw "0.022"
cl_mouseaccel 0
resolution: 1680x1050 @120Hz (same in Q3A)

So what I basically want is either a link to a good explanation of how sensitivity calculation in Q3A works, or a sens-converter from QL to Q3A, or someone being so nice and calculating the sensitivity value I have to use in Q3A to get my QL sens for me.

I've dreamed of universal sense app that adjusts from quakeworld to quake live to quake 3 but the truth is the games really are too different and the movements you make with the mouse are too
You need to just find a new sense or something as close to it as you can and that's what everyone has to do even the pros from quake 3 to quake four to three to quake live

I don't think it's possible to get the exact same feel. If I were you I'd use these values and practice with them in CPMA, so I'd get used to them eventually.

I'm not trying to get the same "feel" as the physics in vq3 are different to QL, I try to get the same sensitivity so I can do 180's with the same precision I have in QL and that should be possible without a problem.

Since they are different games and even QL fucks with your sens every now and then, I still don't think it's possible to get the exact same precision. And yeah I was talking about sens values and not the psyhics. I fucked around with my cfg a lot and I still couldn't replicate the same Q3 "feel" with my mouse in QL. That's unless you get into some bat shit mental math stuff like good ol' czm used to (+zoom calculus and what not)

sensitivity 3.35 in q3 should give you the same cm/360. other settings remain the same. if you're using a client that supports raw mouse input you'll also want to select that (e.g. cnq3).

What do you mean? I have customaspect to 1 res on 1680x1050 and fov 100 same values in QL or is the fov-calculation in Q3A different to QL?

It's not the same, q3 will strech the fov you gave it across the whole screen while ql will recalculate it, assuming the value you fed it with is for 4/3, then add stuff on the sides.

tl;dr : q3 -> 16/10 bump it by 10 16/9 bump it by 15

yeah, what does that even do?
in the same vain, I just switched from IE3 to DA, and if I do m_cpi=450 while the driver dpi setting is 450, it becomes somewhat slower. at the same time, the DA at 450 feels pretty much like the IE3. so, the command is rather useless to me.

that's interesting, but doesn't really help, as I'm using the DA now. if i set m_cpi to what the dpi is, it feels too slow. i did just realize that I intuitively decided that that command takes what should be the mouses dpi setting, but that can be wrong.

I don't think that's what it is, at least because I use 'raw'. I think this is why:
"For example, the sensitivity will be in units of degrees per cm, and cl_mouseAccelOffset will be a mouse speed in cm/s."

Nope I'm not I've messed around quite some time with those values :). m_cpi value is determined by your mouse dpi*windows sens so in my case its 450*0.6=270.

I get in qw wsw q3-cpm ql the same sens with the exact same "sensitivity 5" value.
at least it feels exactly same and the cm for 360 are also same.
just make sure you have right in_mouse value.
