Will they alter prize distrobution or divide every place's purse by a factor of 10?. I would imagine they would alter the distrobution meaning the casual gamers will walk away empty handed. FFA is a silly way of playing HALO anyway it's meant to be played 4 vs. 4 TDM that's the competitive standard.

Also how are the Source and 1.6 sign-ups going anyone know because with the G7 not attending and most porbably the CGS teams not attending it doesn't look good for the CS tournaments either.

"suddenly accused"? Do they think people are making this up just to spite them? 2 of the worlds most renowned teams (fnatic & SK) are boycotting them for lack of payments. These are teams that make their LIVING off playing in professional gaming competitions, why would they spite them? It makes NO business sense at all for the teams to spite CPL for "no reason".

Well, there are tons of other gaming organisations who aren't sueing each other and seem to get along just fine, so what is this mysterious "other organisation" got to gain from causing static needlessly? They obviously have need for it as this "$1 Million Halo 3 Tournament" is surrounded with controversey and is dodgy at best and at worse is a complete farce.



I actually showed the mail to people in the office I currently work in. The office has 2 PR managers who both saw and read the mail and both of them have said, without bias or prejudice, that it is easily the worst response they have ever seen from a "professional" company.
The CPL and X Factor are now beyond a joke. Its a complete farce whats going on and I feel sorry for the players who have paid good money to attend who are now getting screwed. Lets not forget Tronic and others who booked flights to attend events hosted by the CPL only for the events to be called off without a moments notice.
The CPL is currently doing more harm then it is good for e-sports and while I respect their history and what they have done to bring e-sports forward they are getting left waaaaaaaay behind at this stage and no amount of laced in venom press releases will stop that.

The sordid tales of CPL dumb-fuckery transcend genres. Even people who've never played online games get a really good laugh out of the stories I tell about how comically bad the CPL are.

Maybe if they'd answered any of these questions on the CPL halo 3 forums more people might have felt secure throwing $475 into the xfc/CPL wishing well.

Also it's a standard statement for CPL tournaments (see Counter-Strike on the same page linked by the poster) that prizes can be reduced based on participation. We would obviously discuss this with the registered participants, which would be given an opportunity to opt-out and receive a full refund of their admission fee.

Angel posted trying to pretend that shit about prize fund reduction was standard legal jargon. Unfortunately he also promised refunds to anyone who wanted one, in the unlikely event of the prize fund actually being decreased. There's already 10 people asking about refunds on their Halo 3 forum (that's 5% of total sign-ups in just a few hours).

Jesus, they are unbelievable. I just spent a while mincing around www.thecpl.com and their forums and Ive never seen such a contrived lack of interest with peoples concerns which only gets pawned off when "God" steps in and fills the paupers heads with well placed legal jargon (Angel ofc) that does nothing to alleviate the actual problems and just sounds nice and reassuring.

They are unbelievably bad at what they are currently doing and if it wasnt for their history they would have closed months ago. what happend to WiC and FEAR? they went ham-handed into the deal with sierra and they have done their best to get the esports community to look the other way with the "$1 Million Halo 3 Tournament".

So now this year the CPL has an incomplete World Tour with 3 cancelled stops, a Halo 3 tournament which has more questions asked about it then actual sign ups and a CS tournament where 2 top teams wont be attending due to the CPL's inability to make the essential assurances required for running a professional competition.

What a truly terribly run organisation. It is blatently obvious they have problems right down to the core and are essentially a sinking ship.

Let me ask ppl this: If they were only able to get enough sign ups to host a $100,000 dollar tournament this winter and have already cancelled 3 events this year - what chance is there that there will be a summer 2008 for the already paid Halo players to go to?

The same 300 gamers registered for this competition will also receive FREE admission to our rescheduled $1,000,000 Halo 3 Competition to take place at the CPL Summer Event.

IMO this is the funniest part of it all. " Ye, well. Since there are not enough participants, we decided to reschedule the whole Gazillion $ thingy to next year. This means, you still pay ~400$, but the prizepool is just 1/10 of the promised 1 Mio."

If 200 people resulted in a 90% reduction of prize fund. Then presumably the CPL Summer 2008 '$1m' Halo 3 tourney will end up demanding cash from the winner to cover the costs of letting 90% of the competitors in for free...

After 10 years in this business you should know not to advertise a tournament like you are curently doing. It is better to announce a smaller tournament that expands according to the signups, than announcing a huge tournament that gets reduced. But more importantly, don't let the prize money be dependant on the signups.

Be a little more humble, and let the gaming comunity evolve naturaly. No need to rush things with big/bad headlines.

I think when Angel lost his sponsors to WSVG he just gave up on pro gaming and decided to milk the CPL brand for all it's worth. After this scam, it'll probably all be over, though perhaps I'm underestimating the naivity of wannabe pro gamers.

Btw, some investigative journalist should find out what that $43 million "investment" in the CPL a couple of years ago was really all about.

AFAIR they quietly canceled the last few events days before they were due to take place, and had no large prize fund WT finals.

Here is the only link I can (be bothered to) find. I believe there was a Chile and Brazil stop canceled too.

EDIT: Actually it appears the WT final hasn't taken place yet and is scheduled for next February.
