Those formats are not lossless, and it's important to be pixel perfect here.

Trust me, if you don't know how to open a .tga then this challenge is far beyond your abilities :-)

So in theory, HUD is 640x480 rescaled to your resolution.

So you want a rectangle from (0;239,2) to (640;240) ;) If fractions aren't allowed, you may be screwed.

Try making exactly what you just said for 800x600, see what happens.

main reason why i switched from 800x600 to 1024x768 =PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

640x480 doubled would be 1280x960, so 1024x768 would suffer from the same issues as 800x600 when it comes to using even and clear position/size numbers.

yeah so, I don't believe you because that wouldn't make sense mathematically, and would be inconsistent with every test I've run.

Cool, so I made this cartesian coordinate thing with the hud for my res of 800x600:

Couple things:

I did not foresee that overlapping lines would be different in color but it makes sense. Unfortunately to get around this would require an astronomical amount of lines, unless there is some way to tell it not do that.

I chose 16x16 squares because they seemed like a balance between large and small. Now I think that this might be too small and result in too many lines.

I have the opacity turned down pretty low, at 0.1. More opacity than this and it becomes blinding.

There's a limit on the number of MenuDefs, and I hit it 17 lines short. Switching to Itemdefs instead fixed it. I'm not sure what the limit on those is.

I find this idea interesting because the 'cross' crosshair was once touted as the best since your brain sort of maps things on to a 2d plane, cartesian style, so you make adjustments based on NSEW and mixtures of these. The large dot crosshair, which is a square does the same thing and is a neat alternative to the cross.

Adding entire cartesian lines tries to take this idea to the next level to see what happens. So far I think it is just distracting, but perhaps with some more experiments..

It is sort of interesting when it comes to memorization of shots and events, because you could watch a demo and say look, I overshot this by 3 cells, or this guy always dodges 5 cells left, 2 cells right.
