EC XXII Playoff - LB Final

alpha -vs- METSU

The Dreamhack admins have taken a liking to the idea of having a 4v4 TDM tourney being played along with the Duel tournament, similar to what Quakecon has done the past few years, but with TDM instead.

Most of the top teams are already on board if it really happens and even an US mix-team is not unlikely. We have gotten a go ahead from the head admins ponderosa/greykarn to gauge the interest. We would like any team who would seriously attend this event to contact either me, tyba1t or noctis on Quakenet ( #reason-gaming) and let us know if you would attend this event.

The tournament would be held at Dreamhack Summer in Jonkoping, Sweden mid June - official announcement to be expected soon. The more interest the more chance that this will happen. It would not be a BYOC event, tournament PCs will be provided.

The first QL duel cup of the year is run by LLL - newcomer bodzo wins the final against spart1e.

Q3 is still active aswell, the Q3 Nationscup kicks off, but is overshadowed by Zubich cheating in their first game against Austria. Shame on him and props to the qqc team for their strict punishment, a life long ban.

The e-sport journalist Carmac leaves SK-Gaming "heart-broken" for an, at this time, unknown future. In an interview with readmore.de he states the following concerns: "What if I wake up one day and realise that esports has become something that I no longer enjoy? What if all I have left to cover is Halo and a caricature of esports like the CGS?". As we all know by now, he will do his fair share to not let this happen and will help competitive Quake Live bigtime.

Sad news for the community, Game-Services, the company behind ESWC is bankrupt. This is the end of one of the best and most prestigious tournaments series ever.

Fatal1ty sets the Guinness World Record for most frags in 60 minutes on dm17 in FFA. As if that itself wouldnt be ridiculously enough, Massman reports in the comments: "It wasn't the same players playing all 60mins. They switched seats every 10mins or so but all players were equally crap.
Any half-decent players could have stopped fat's record attempt. In theory the other FFAers could stop FFAing, work together and go strait for Fat. But they didn't do that.
Or just jump in void or delay respawns or other methods to prevent Fat getting any frags. But they didn't do that. They were easyfrags as required. But be aware that fat later the year explains that he is "not a douchebag"

As part of the stagnant of Quake Live development I will point out to the following reply by Syncerror to some criticism in the forum: "The coders and webcoders are working on restoring the leaderboards and adding private servers and all that comes along with said premium package. Scweden gets third. noctis releases a frag movies featuring the Austrian Team.

Bodzo joins SK-Gaming and (spoiler alert) doesnt go to a single LAN until he gets dropped from the SK roster later anyway, fail.

The Russians still dont have QL servers and continue to play Q3. In the Asus Spring Open 09

From today we retire the use of Octoshape for the Premium Streams of ESL TV, which are now powered by the technology of own3D.tv. By taking this step all ESL TV Premium users no longer need to install any additional plugins (except for Flash of course). At the moment this change applies only to ESL TV Premium Streams, not the Free Streams which will for the time being continue to use Octoshape technology.

I wrote a script that creates statistics out of the demo filenames (demos formatted according to the current cg_autoaction format, not the older ones or manually renamed demos).

Thought these infos might be interesting, but i have no real "use" for it. in the future i want to implement some more features like plotting the data in a graph or filter for certain players etc...

To run it you just put the qlstats.exe in your ql demo folder and check stats.txt. if you dont wanna run a rnd.exe (i can assure you its safe) you can also use the attached .lua script (you need to be able to run lua scripts obviously) and here is the source code. (horrible coding, i know :D)

Please share your stats.txt and report any bugs you encounter (currently there are some issues with "-" in clantags and names cause it messes up my string identification)

Creating Custom HUDs for Quake Live requirers a text editor and a lot of time. But Pavel "namad" Kiselyov is about to change that with the online HUD Generator Visual HUD.

obv i didnt play it enough to judge on it, just wanna give you my first impression and want to hear what you guys think about it

- no ra, but 2x ya and 1x ga (not sure if it works, so far i found it interesting)
- no rail (possible replacement for dm13?)
- seems kinda shaft heavy :(
- lot of cracks in the floor that will annoy the fuck out of my with the current rocket code

general flow of the map is nice imho, some vertical areas, cool jumps, nice teleporter...

Todays Quake Live Premium Pak 3 features more than just 4 new/old maps, it also includes balance and physics changes, some chat tokens, fixes, FreezeTag and map adjustments.

Most notable, Chain Jumping was added, the Quad Damage multiplier was reduced from 4x to 3x and the step height adjusted from 18 to 22. Read the full changelog below.

The 54th ZOTAC QL Duel Cup will be played this Sunday. As usual it will consist of a SE bracket using the bo1 format until the quarter finals. Then the games will be played as bo3 with the exception of the Final being played as bo5. ZOTAC QL Cup participants need at least a Quake Live Premium membership to participate. The prize is 100€ for the best player again!

6. If Players are scheduled to play each other for a 2nd time in the Open Bracket, their Match will expand to a Best of 7, include the previous Match, and pick up where that Match left off. For example, if Player A beat Player B 2 Games to 0 in the Winners Bracket, the Best of 7 will resume with Game 3 and Player A leading 2 Games to 0. When the Match is resumed, the loser of the Winners Bracket Match must select the Map for the upcoming Game and only they may change their Race from the Races that were used in the last Game of the Winners Bracket Match.

7. If the Players scheduled to play each other in the Finals have not yet played against each other in the Open Bracket, an initial Match must be played. If the Player who came from the Winners Bracket wins the initial Match, they will win the Event. If the Player who came from the Losers Bracket wins the Match, a tiebreaking Match must be played. The winner of a tiebreaking Match will win the Event. Game 1 of the initial Match will be played on the Map that has been selected for Game 1 of the Finals. Game 1 of the tiebreaking Match will be played on the Map that has been selected for Game 1 of the Winners Bracket Finals. If the Players have already competed against each other on the Map that has been selected for Game 1 of the Winners Bracket Finals, the Player who came from the Winners Bracket will select the Map for Game 1 of the tiebreaking Match.

After four regular Qualifiers and a last chance cup, the EMS7 QL TDM Groupstage is finally ready to kick off! Two teams per group will advance into the Playoffs and fight for the 750€ Prizemoney

Starting today software offers all standard users free access to Quake Live Premium For one week. Additionally they are introducing a free one-month token for everyone that subscribes for Premium or Pro during the event, that can be given to a friend or used to extend the subscription.

Most peoples suggestions and wishes for QL (judging from the official forums, ESR and talks on irc) seem to focus on ingame additions/changes.
Now if you compare QL to the near perfect CPMA , there still is some room for improvements and although i would appreciate a better netcode, scoreboard, chat tokens and whatever small bits people keep wishing for, i really dont think these things are deal breakers and will have a major effect on the future of Quake live.

On the other hand there is just sooo much room for improvement in terms of site features, afterall the centralized platform is the one thing that makes Quake Live stand out from its predecessors. So lets have a look on what could be done to make QL a better experience and help the community grow.

Leaderboard / Ladder
I dont wanna waste much time on the current leaderboard (because it is a joke), it doesnt need to go away, but it is kinda useless and we need an actual ladder system. Right now people dont even get to see their current tier, but for most of the player base that means that there is no indicator for how well they are doing, nothing that makes people want to get better, nothing to compete for... Just look at how essential the ladder is to SC2...
Additionally there could be on site tournaments with different divisions and/or seeds based on the ladder postions.

Player Profile
The profile is a cool thing, but it should be extended feature wise. It could include the players config for example, so obvious and yet so cool.
An equipment/rig field where pros can feature their sponsors, fanboys check the current mouse of player x, and average joe boast about his overpirced gaming keyboard.
Statistics would be a lot more useful if you could filter for gametypes and time periods (graphs would be $$$) ann they could be extended with mapplays.
Additional to "Recent Competitors" it would be really cool to see the most played Competitors
Awards have a lot more potential aswell, same goes for the matches page. Would be cool it you could filter the view by gametype, comment on the matches and in the far future maybe even get serverside demos automatically attached to the match etc...

Clans
Okay so the big update brought us a clan system, oh wait, it didnt. It is now necessary/possible to register for a clantag, that is it. Your clan(s) isnt even displayed on your profile, possibilities for an clan system, the most basic being a public clanpage as part of your player profile that shows the roster and a written description where you could link your clansite and whatnot... But there so many more possibilities that would also make for great prem features like a private forum for each clan and chatrooms etc...

Stats/Leavers
Now if u like it or not, stats motivate and influence people a lot and have a huge effect on ingame behavior (people playing 4v2 TDM for 7-8mins just to get a win is not uncommon). Public play would benefit a lot from a system that would punish leavers somehow and benefit people who balance teams, im not sure what the best way is to achieve this, but right now if you help the losing team with less players out, you will just get a loss and awards like "Win a Clan Arena match (of at least 5 rounds) without losing a round." dont help either

Demos
A convenient way to watch demos right from the site would be great, something like the QUAKE LIVE Demo Player addon for firefox would be just fine for the beginning

Server Browser
The current one is really clunky and a pain in the ass to use, make it possible to switch to something like the Quake Live New Alt Browser, afterall this guy actually listened to what people wanted and implemented it.


This are just some ideas i had in my head, i am sure there is much more...

Now the guys at id software arent stupid so they should have come up with similar things, but i wonder if they prioritize those additions correctly....

When sc2 got released i was laddering a lot, but i am no rts player and moving out of platinum would require so much practice that i decided to stop playing for a while... that was until i realized that there are already a lot of fun custom maps.
I will introduce the two maps i enjoyed the most so far and would like to get some recommendations from you

THE Card Game

THE Card Game is 2-6 player team vs team map. You randomly draw cards (that can be discarded for a price), they can be cheap, expensive, rare, ... By clicking on them you spawn the unit it represents and the unit will then attack the enemy nexus and whatever units the enemy throws at it. The key to winning in countering the enemy forces with the correct cards/units while playing as a coordinated team. (i simplified the map, but this is to get the concept) It is really addictive and played a lot atm because its a featured map. if you have previously played the map, you might wanna check it again cause it got quite a few updates.

Defend the Moon

Classic TD, inspired by Element TD from wc3. You can play it for your own, or as a team (but still every player is on his own) or you can play in versus mode where you spawn creeps to attack your opponents. its already quite balanced and the upgrade and building variety still make it really interesting. nothing special, but still fun and the best TD i have found so far.

The Global Starcraft II League (GSL) was announced last month. The GSL will take place each month, with a prize pool of $170,000 per tournament. At the same time, the league will server as a qualifier for the GSL2011 main season.

During the last days the Ro64 was determined, including the foreigners TheLittleOne, IdrA, Artosis and TorcH. Brackets are available on TL.net.

GomTV now announced some details concerning the international Stream with Artosis and Tasteless. There will be no free Stream, but several premium offers:

When we started Teamliquid eight years ago, we had a vision of being the best StarCraft site in the world. Back then, this wasn't a very difficult accomplishment. What we didn't realize is what being the best SC site in the world could lead to. Teamliquid is an amazing place and it's a joy to be a part of TL's community.
