you're making no sense. this isnt wc3. you cant "steal" strategies from players. everything necessary to succeed in q4 is skill. technique would be... positioning, spam locations, any little thing you can pick up from a demo.

its not like one would watch a cooller demo and go "AHA! All I need is a 40% LG and I'd be xX good." How can you "take" something from an FPS player? You can only learn.

Ok, you're way off. I argued with it for a perfectly good reason: he was implying that aim was a strategy.
And I never called him unintelligent. I said he didn't know what he was talking about. Granted, if he had intelligence, he may not be inclined to talk about things he does not know of, but that is a different matter entirely.

like if the player positions themselves in a place with the cursor where they expect the opponent to come then its kinda strategic

its like in ut2k4 ill beat some people with random single hits with lg (rail in q4) but if u stuck us opposite each other with nowhere to hide then i get my ass handed to me

i dont know if it is my config, but how comes quake4 doesnt seem nearly as fast as quake3 ? i guess as peoples computers get better so will they !

I have Q4 1.05 and the maps,
but can't playback the demos :-(
computer first loads map of the demo, then q4 crashes.
I have also installed Q4Max on my computer,
but I didn't load (don't know how to do that).
Can you help me?

reinstall with 1.0.4

download the maps (links on esr)
download qmax 6mb and cpl files (media and one more)
download seismovision 3 beta

got em now from the official q4max site.

You can also start q4max from q4 main-menu: mods -> q4max

then run the demo by entereng playnetdemo <demoname> in the console.

when I try to load up Q4max from the main menu,
quake 4 crashes and returns to windows.
is this because of 1.05?

if I do so,
my quake4 crashes, I get returned to windows and get an errormessage.

q4max suxx, xbattle is functioning without any problems.

you can load mods exactly like in Q3, make a shortcut to the quake4.exe and add +set fs_game q4max (or whatever the folder of the mod is named) to the target, e.g.:

"D:\Spiele\Quake 4\Quake4.exe" +set fs_game q4max

make sure the added arguments are outside the " " and have a whitespace in between (hi therogue :p)

I've never seen such poor demo support in my life.
I've got Q4 version 1.0.5
I have q4max 0.7
I have all the maps

Yet when I load up q4max and type in playnetdemo <demoname> I crash to my desktop the second I press enter. This is so frustrating - does anybody have any idea whats going on?

I've tried the q4maxupdater and q4pickupupdater and neither of them solved the problem.

There is more to Q4 than strategy and aim.

It seems people are lumping everything that isn't aim into strategy.

Movement isn't strategy.

Sound recognition isn't strategy.

Cooller lost track of Toxic less often than Toxic lost track of Cooller. Cooller was able to overcome the Toxic aim advantage by being able to fire at spots when he knew Toxic was on his way somewhere but Toxic didn't know where Cooller was, or was going.

first frag of the game is a fgood example of that :))))

Sound recognition on its own isn't strategy, but positional recognition and spatial awareness are a sort of 'tactic' or, uhm, 'skill' which is in the same, broad category as general strategy.

i saw this game already live in dallas and watched the demo now several times and i love it. they way cooller literally destroys toxic here is so perfect. perfect timing, almost perfect move, cooller knew all the time where toxic was and what he was doing next. now i understand why toxic looked so pissed, when he stood up from his chair. at least on blip he had no chance whatsoever.

btw in the demo, like 1 minute to go, when cooller suddenly stops moving etc: cooller stopped playing, took his headphones off, moved the keyboard to the desk and wanted to standup, until a cpl admin told him, that cooller had play to the end :P

I think that Cooller is using the MS Wheelmouse Optical, based on the PQ4 video of the final (silly me I didn't check at the time). If so this is the same mouse that Fox, Tox and Gopher use and costs a nice £10 or €15.

why fox said that cpl doesn't allow cfg tweaking? you can see that cooller has bright enemymodel in the .avi
