Expected a first beer thread.

Maybe sometime this summer I'll get drunk for the first time and make a post about that, while drunk.

Drinking an alcoholic beverage doesn't mean getting wasted, particularly the first beer (lots don't like it).

True, but I already know I don't like (most) alcohol, but a lot of people want to see me drunk, so I might do it once and see what happens. Maybe i'll become an alcoholic and ruin my life... that would be fun, right?


(I've had rum, whisky, vodka, a few types of shitty beer, and some other random drinks.)

I'm currently owning a HPE 87, previously owned a Das (mxblue) and I already ordered CM storm QFP (mxred), waiting for it to be delivered.

I tried out the Razer Whateverthefuck mechanical keyboard in-store, but they only let you test out the arrow keys. It's not a very accurate representation, but I sort-of got the idea. They felt and sounded completely different from these, which really surprised me; I never expected the differences between the keys to be so huge.

Neither did I, until I ended up with browns.

I really dislike them, not sure why. They just don't feel as comfortable to type on compared to cloudy boobs also known as mx blue.

Hopefully red won't be a let down.

I currently own a das keyboard ultimate silent with brown cherry keys, it's my first mechanical keybaord, works fine for me, and it indeed improves typing speed and comfort about 10-15 % compared to the normal keyboards I used ... why did you change several times your mechanical keyboard? Can't imagine a big difference between them. Also, r u really a girl? This kind of gear obsession is a more typical male trait :-)

The Das is very sturdy and heavy, you could probably kill someone with it before it breaks down. I really like the design and overall quality but the price tag was out of reach at this point. I'm probably more prone to blues because they were my first mech and I typed on them for well over a year. I wanted to give other switches a try, the HPE was convenient and uses 87 keys instead of ful 104

I like the TKL design but going from blues to this was a mistake. I have never really gotten my fingers used to type on browns.

They're not necessarily bad, I wouldn't call any switch good or bad - they're just different.


I'm still unsure if I'm a girl with manly traits or a guy with girly traits, I do however want my next board to be the ducky shine pink limited edition OR KBT Race

The first keyboard is pretty small, which is nice, I myself don't need the numpad, but sometimes you need cursors, also the del key is quite important, that keyboard is only usable if you are working in some environment adapted to the controls of the vi editor I guess ;-).

The second keyboard looks normal, similar to the das, as you said sturdy and heavy, but you gotta get used to those colors ;-)
and I guess, this keyboard only looks good when it's really clean :-),
all these light colors will reveal a lot of dirt ;-)

but i'll go with u, h, j, k as movement keys and bind ALT "+attack", moving the controls to the middle of the keyboard and using a keyboard button for attack is the best thing since slice bread.

I'm considering purchasing a mechanical keyboard (now i'm using a cheap logitech one, but i have it for like 5 years) but i'm afraid of the accommodation time..
Considering the fact that i can't test it thoroughly, the migration from regular keyboard to mechanical was easy/natural ?

Yeah I use mx blacks and I'm not used to bottoming out keys so it was quite natuaral, also I use those controls for QW :D

Can you explain why are those controls more efficient? I don't get it.

I've considered moving to esdf or rdfg because that would allow me to move my whole keyboard a bit more to the left (and then move my whole mousepad to the left as well, so everything is better centered!).

But I can't be assed so far. So I stuck to wasd (well, zqsd for frenchies :p)

Well the first reason it's the one you mentioned, as in moving the keyboard more to the left you will have more space to center the mousepad and so you won't spread your arms much in clutch situations (uncomfortable movements of the right hand).
But this depends on a lot of factors:
- most important .. are you a midget? have short hands?
- is your keyboard too long? (that's what she said)
- are you low sens, high sens?
- do you have a large desk ?

Because i'm from a poor country, my parents didn't afford a large desk so i was forced to move my keyboard more to the left so my mousepad could fit in (standard tiny mousepad for '99 - '00 era). Half of the keyboard was hanging in the air outside of the desk area :)).
Moving the control keys on the middle of the keyboard offered me other bonuses like more buttons available to bind around the movement keys (mostly funny 'say' binds :D:D:D:D ). The transition from mouse1 attack to ALT key attack was experimental but it got to me really fast (in 2,3 weeks it felt really natural) and i'm playing like this for about 4 years. My right hand feels more relaxed (no, it's not bcuz of fap) and no tension on finger/hand is applied from constant firing /mouse1 being pressed.

Although now i own a large desk (but i'm still poor) i play russian style cause it's cooler this way.

TL;DR: - more space to center your mousepad
- more buttons to bind weaps or funny 'say' binds around your movement keys.

you can more actively use your ring finger.

mostly that my weapons are either pulled out by my pinkie, thumb or by leaning to the key near the movement grid. + I can zoom and pull out any weapon I want , and move and dodge however I want all at the same time.

Shooting on space makes things more stable as I'm never tapping the mouse except to jump and even then I'm going to make a slight adjustment, I crouch by lightly holding down the mouse which doesn't disrupt my aim and it's usually for positioned shots or whatever.

A used lada niva will get you from point A to point B just as any Audi R8 would, yet some people prefer more expensive cars.

You can write a long essay with just about any board, it just feels much nicer (and faster, to some degree) using a mech of your choice. Why shouldn't you spend money on things you actually like.

130€ is ~2-3 days of work and you usually buy a keyboard and stick with it for years.

I've tried expensive keyboards and I can say I dont feel any positive difference regarding the $5 one I have at home. Sure, if you like it then go ahead, but most ppl don't buy them for comfort or their opinion, they'll buy them because it has flashy lights and has ponies stickers all over it.

What do you mean? Mine said GAMING on the box and has 5 different LED light settings so it's clearly superior.

eeeh first impression: The light show looks cool and would probably impress some girls, overall feel is worse than browns (oddly enough, since I didn't like browns in the first place), everything looks bulky and big (probably due to swapping from TKL to full 104). Might need some time to get used to it, if not - anyone wants to buy Quick Fire Pro Mx red?

My mechanical keyboard looks more drab and simple than my old #12 membrane keyboard, it just feels a million times better. It's also a lot easier to clean, and will last a lot longer (though my old kb is 3-4 years old and still works perfectly fine - only one key is a little dull, which is quite impressive).

My O-rings just arrived! I'm going to put them on about half the keys and record the different keys. I assume it'll make a pretty big difference.
