yeah, they mine as well get it over with and make this game 100% P2P since the free part of this game is trash now.

The free part should be fine for the average noob who just jumps in, play and didn't even know he could callvote maps before. So basically tiers 1, 2 and 3 which represent a lot more players than tier 4. The free part is important for those players because they might eventually get better and get interested in a higher level of playing. Without the free part, there are no new players. Without new players, the game is destined to die completely like Q3 did before QL arrived.

I think that if you are involved enough to think the free part sucks, you are involved enough to pay.

if the free part was "fine for the average noob who just jumps in" as you say, then there wouldnt be so many whine threads on QL forum and on ESR about the new system that's in place.

if the free part was fine, the QL petition to remove the callvote patch thread wouldnt be the most replied thread in the QL suggestions forum.

the free part of this game is actually driving players away. new players and old players alike, are unhappy about these changes, and id continues to do nothing about it. but you're right about one thing, this game is destined to die, and by the looks of it, at a much faster rate than Q3.

i wish this were the case. unfortunately, no one pays for this game except the same vets and regulars whove been playing for years all along. and alot of them are starting to quit / move on. this game is dying a slow but inevitable death, and there arent that many new faces who are willing to pay for something that's not appealing to begin with.

Well there's a balance to find. If you don't give enough you don't attract/retain potential customers and if you give too much you don't get them to pay and you lose money.

I don't think any of us is in the position to tell what's the right balance but I think it's fair to assume that "losing money" is the most dangerous side on short-term (at this stage of QL's lifetime) and it looks like it was there until this summer's updates.

What I find rather amusing is that Quake has always been some sort of elitist game within the fps genre, or even within video games as a whole, but right now it's also an elitist game within its own elitist community.
Actually I said it was amusing but it's probably more depressing than amusing.

The map pool for duel... ROFL :D. Atlest till now they added 2 playable maps in the rotation. Now - battleshit and that's it. HF standard players!
P.S. OH, wait there is thunderstruck! Maybe heartless will start to play duel after all!

TDMers have some pretty decent maps (purga/rats)
CTFers have Camper crossing and waters
Duel? Not sure, BF possibly, phrantic, that's about it.

Canned heat has invisibility, windsong is HUGE, concrete doesn't offer any interesting fights.

this month CAers are favoured, ctf is alot better than last mont, tbh last most was pure hell, now anything feels good, even this is quite decent, but as I see it the players aren't really coming back

samething happened to ctf last month, you'll survive it. I havent said duel isn't suckage this month btw

CTF last month was awesome. Reflux and Shining Forces are top notch CTF maps, plus we had Inner Sanctums which is Team Arena but still decent.

This month though... we have Camper Crossings and Troubled Waters, both of which are mediocre CTF maps at best, and the other ones are just 'meh'.
