it proves imo how much pro players use to play in order to be that good, and that once they stop practicing for x hours a day, it's game over -they still play good, but not good enough to win

don't know how true this is, i remember strenx bragging about how he only needed to play once a week for zotac after a thirsty saturday evening and eventually won...

Now though I must say the current zotac skillevel (especially thinking about the russian powerhouse) is certainly higher than at the period when burnedd, me or garppy or whoever else i can think of used to reach the finals on a more regular basis... the likes of pavel, evil, agent or p0ni didn't play the zotacs (much) then.

russian "powerhorse"? me starting to remember good "old" times when q3 started to fade away, Russians came then in and dominated the scene in lack of real strong competition, I think smth similar is going on now
because there is no great news on the horizon regarding ql and well payed competitions, pro players kinda stopped to play hardcore for about 6-8 months by now

sorry, but I don't believe in the Russian powerhorse theory; they can be very good, alright, but this do not make them superhuman -they have the same chances as anyone else from Europe to get good

as for strenx bragging that he did not play, pfffff! is this not one of the few sports where the players do consider saying that they practice less as being a virtue; it is like saying in boxing: I still beat most of them single handed

in my short period I trained with pros I observed not only that they played a lot but they used to take caffeine and other sh1t to be able to play and focus more, day and night

I don't mean that you do not know what you are talking, I just think that you overestimate other players while you underestimate your capacity to dominate

Well the last DH kinda shows my point as to how good those russians can perform. We're talking about pavel and evil who both generally gave a positive impression about their skill level (pavel only losing to cypher in 5 maps). And now we have agent dominating those same russians in the recent zotacs.

I know what I mean when I'm saying strenx used to only play once a week. It doesn't mean he couldnt have been faking throughout the week but I think he did not lie about it.

cypher and rapha you mentioned before they both have extraordinary good skills but they also have their own signature, so to speak;
when I say cypher I think about very good moving and sick aim combined in imaginative ways, if he is in the right mood (better when he is not stressed out I'd say) and smart timing techniques -I think he is the only q player who used delays on picking up important items in a constant matter -a bit risky if the opponent knows his style and which might push his general style into the not safe zone, yet he manage to get the best of it thanks to his imagination and his spirit for adventure in his games
when I say rapha I think abt a guy with solid skills and the best timing in the business, as well as very good knowledge of the map and of his opponents, and where usually cypher is playing his opponents or the map, rapha plays them both

now, when I say pavel, agent or evil I am thinking about some guys with extremely solid aim and moving and very good knowledge of the map, able to manage good frags out of their hat, many times from inferior positioning and stack situations, thanks to their occasional sick aim/moving combination; but they do not bring anything new to the game, maybe excepting their struggle to get frags from disadvantageous situations, situations caused by their mediocre timing at regular basis

although, if we talk about their best advantage, their aiming, these guys are not at the level k1llsen is, when he is in good shape, not to mention the smart way k1llsen can use of his aim in 50-50 situations, to help him get in control, in decisive moments of the match (I still think he pushed the game to a whole new level, at gamescom 2010, unfortunately whether it was some strange planets alignment or him on steroids, fact is that chances to see him in similar shape are very slim, still his matches are the last in the history of quake that I find joy tt watch)

so I don't see any wonder around the new Russian power puff grills; they are very good, alright, but they fail to deliver; the consistent advantage of having exceptional good LG aiming combined with a strict development of the rest of the package of a pro player that we see at strenx and which made us all think about his boring game found its equivalent with the new Russians, only by replacing sick LG aiming with sick movement and general very good aiming (and very good knowledge of ztn, alright)

Unless both Cypher and Rapha stopped playing Quake, Strenx was never going to win a major lan event - he knew this and left for sh*tmania...

Whatever money he earns playing sh*tmania will be deserved because I've tried it and it is truly boring...

The movement is slow and sluggish, you keep trying to zoom or switch weapons but of course you can't. All the maps look the same and the game modes all seem very contrived and heavy handed e.g you must complete this objective within this timeframe, so there are only a few limited tactics you can apply.

But worst of all it ruins your Quake aim - LG especially! 1 hour of sh*tmania = 5% drop in lg accuracy in quake, so beware :D

He takes risks just to grab the items, sometimes he even rocketjumps to reach the yellows, or run to items leaving the hurted enemies to run away... not to mention when he waits 4-5 seconds on the red spawn.....it's just that his whole playstyle is centered on the items, and even his sensitivity seems built to emprove the movements speeds/precision/reactivity, sacrificing the aim

if he waits 4 seconds on the ra, it's cuz he doesn't have anywhere else to be, cuz that's the next item in the cycle. that's what i consider his crazy timing, his ability to cycle perfectly, and not lose track of at least a part of the cycle when he gets killed and put out of control. i've played with item timers, and i can tell u that kind of robotic item cycling he does looks like what i used to do

the "no money to cheats for" is obviously not a valid enough reason to cheat; but, really, after seeing various recent matches, he seems very legit to me.
He commits a lot of errors, and just seems to base his playstyle on timing, coming to use rocket jumps just to reach yellow armors faster than his opponents, instead of doing damage etc. ; he is very good, but not in suspicious way, to me.

some peoples were saying "unbelievable, he times all the times to the seconds, etc. etc.; " so i watched some recent demos of him, and i've seen that he even takes risks, stopping fire, rocket jumps and leaves away occasions to hit the opponents, just to keep control of the items, even waiting 4-5 seconds on an item spawn;
So he seems legit, he just bases his playstyle on that kind of things.
There are players that bases a gamestyle just on the aim, at least that is more interesting, even if not totally correct, considering the damage he takes and the occasions he waste.
