I asked you before and you said you didn't do 3D stuff at all.

Which means you either do match moving or some kind of compositing job inside nuke(?), which isn't a really a VFX ARTIST because you're not creating the work which makes up the frames you work with.

Not trying to discredit you, but you can't say you're a VFX artist after you already told me before you do not do 3D stuff.

Now not to discredit your post, but a VFX artist is considered someone who edits the image and adds effects using digital imagery skills =D. This does not mean you have to do 3D in order to be called a VFX artist. I've done Matte paintings, Painted real life moving images frame by frame etc etc....

but nevermind if it's gonna bother you that much by calling myself a VFX artist i'll be an elitist cunt and call myself a VFX supervisor.

Without 3D skills or seeing any of your work I don't think there is anything elitist about you. The concept of the job title seems bigger than you and something you seem happy to put out there without actually defining it unless pushed.

What I'm saying is, you're implying an awful lot with the term VFX artist as it conjures up a lot of cool things as VFX is top of the chain, but when you then go on to say you do not do 3D stuff then its a bit of an anti climax and it sounds like you're hiding beyond the glamor of the term that other people have built up. Because to most people when they think of VFX artist, most people will be thinking in 3D becaue 9/10 those are those shots that make people's draw drops.

I consider myself a 3D artist, but I'm nowhere near the level of the VFX guys, mostly becuase I do not specialise in one area like they do or have render farms or for the majority of the time have other people contributing to my work, even though I could do aspects of work that could be used in a VFX or TVFX industry, it would be corrupt to say I'm at that level, even though I technically could depending on the shot in question.

You on the other hand seem happy to draw upon the eliteness of the role, without actually being able to do the FUNDAMENTAL ASPECT of what most people define a VFX artist as doing.

If I program contact php forms, it doesn't make me john carmack, but it does make me a programmer.

if I design flash games, it makes me a game designer, but it doesn't make me Miyamoto.

If you do 2D work for VFX, it makes you a VFX artist, but it doesn't make you what 9/10 think you are.

That's my point. its not to say you're not talented or play an important role, I'm simply saying if you're going to try and bag the job title of VFX Artist, you should be able to do the fundamental aspect of what it entails for most people.

P.S.
You also say...

Probably worded like that because you know as well as I do traditonal art skills like matte painting by hand are being replaced by 3D which as you've already stated-you do not do.

Nothing wrong with what you do, just saying, you should define yourself a bit better in future to avoid this.

If you said you did compositing/matte paiting etc no one would have said anything, but when you hide behind the holy grail of digital art job titles, having previously told people you do not do 3D, you can't expect people to not question this.

Anyway if someone is offering you 50% raises who cares a shit given that would put you on at least 40k.

Easily one of the best ones here, in which Jamerio got caught being just a simple beta tester, that he didn't win a bafta and he earned less than a half of what he pretended, and finally got busted impersonating the very guy (at least for the part of his career that really matters).

This is if it was really you who worked on it and not the successful Jamie "Evo" Williams you have been impersonating instead.

I never said I desigend killer instinct, I said I worked as a tester on it, and did some additional design/ideas for the N64 version.

I left part way through PD ZERO but still had work that made the final game.

not even going to bother searching for the actual links, but we all know how much you bragged about your job at rare and that you said you won the bafta.

and you started your deluded speech just to don't deal with the impersonating issue completely, which is about the imdb description and reaching the other more successful Jamie Williams. That will carry on the personality disorders thread.

I sincerely think that you did work at rare and that you were a part of the team that won the bafta, but without having a major job there. Then you career fucked up badly (especially since you don't have university studies), and you went from managing 3 companies at the same time, which if you ask a businessman or a lawyer they'll tell you it's not much really, to becoming a "3D GURU/CONSULTANT" only and being relegated of the videogame and designing industries for 7 years.
That at least explains why you always rely on your old glory days (before 2003) and not a single time about what you did afterwards or are doing right now.

When you see me raging on compositing forums and calling you a liar for years about your work then you can accuse me of being envious. As I suspect that's the reaction you would really like and its not going to happen because I'm not like that, I have my own shit going on, and it takes more to impress me than that.

I have acknowledged everything you said without reason to doubt, I'm sorry your role hasn't promoted me to stalk you online, or deny what you do, I just can't get excited or emotional about a compositor job as its an entry level position and probably the least creative on the team.

If you want to call yourself a VFX ARTIST be my guest, but when you explain to people what you do by job title, keep an eye out for that subtle look of disappoinment when you define it further.

There's loads of sections lighters, riggers modellers, fur, cloth, fx.. on an a big film like let's say gollum in lord of the rings. It'll have about 15 diff 3d artists doing a small part :) that's why I laugh at jamerios 3D is a vfx artist, but if he knew anything about it he'd know vfx artists go down as low as a matchmover/roto artist because ultimately they all do fx on a film:( but bafta boy knows best

If you want a clear answer for vfx artist or compositor.. search Google, what's the difference between vfx artist and compositor, or search for compositor.. I'm sure the vfx industry is wrong though, I mean jamerio invented the wheel at 6 no?

I know about all the roles thanks, and I know that it all counts toward the final image quality, what I'm saying is, per frame, certain roles have a bigger impact than the others.

You can't seem to acknowledge that becuase you know yours is one of the smaller least impressive/technical roles. So you would rather focus on the team aspect of it all. Surprised you didn't mention the tea lady to boost your plight. "She makes good tea and makes work better!"

You want to be held in the same regard as a striker but you're a goal keeper and you'll never ever get the same recognition as someone whose out their moving the crowd.

you mention fur, but the look of fur is wasted without a good, textured, animated, rendered model and a lot of that stuff is particles/physics based so isn't that difficult. At a push, its easier for the 3D modeler to learn fur than it is for the fur guy to learn 3d modeling to that degree.

So someone who does fur ISN'T in the same league as the people who MODELED/TEXTURED/RENDERED the thing.
I have done fur, cloth, water, (not to VFX level, but enough to know its not as hard as some of the other disciples) I know how this shit works, a VFX 3D modeller could do it all with little training.

You seem to want to split it even stevens and I'm saying for a fact that when people come out of the cinema, they appreciate things like fur/cloth, but 9/10 if that stuff was not there to such a high degree, they would still think the shot looked amazing because every image has a base quality to it before you start obsessing.

OK THEN.... I tested GoldeEye 64 so I am as important as anyone on that dev team because my observations made the game better and some of suggestions made the final game.

It doesn't work that way and nor should it.

I'm not trivialising anyone's work in 3DFX as they are all talented and passionate, but you HAVE to accept that while its a team effort, there are people within the team that make the core magic happen more than others.

Sorry your aspect of VFX does not excite me.

Your tactic of doing this is well documented and exposed around here. you try to maniupualte other people into thinking what you want them to think and its usually to do with attacking authority or those who have done something with games, as you did with

Whether you like it or not, I do have a silent rank over you just as any professional does over me in any other demographic or forum or aspect of games I do not cove. Unlike you, I wouldn't get bitter because I did what I wanted with games and still doing things based off that.

Whether you like it or not professionals in any sport, topic or profession have what I say over people like you. Its not always the case, but 9/10 it is. And given you've done shit with games/mods apart from talk about them, I don't see it being any different to you too.

Be it a sport, or academia, acting, people who make have made the transition into a professional environment have more credibility than those who don't.

This is why specisalists are used in a court of law, this is why empolyers require qualifications cos wikipedia rticles aside, results matter.

If you want to latch onto some deluded notion and wikipedia articles that makes you feel a peer to professionals (across the board) then you carry on, but you'll always be a talker, and not a walker.

Also I hate to break it to you, but if you're claiming to be turning down roles on AVATAR and Prometheus to work on what are mostly a bunch of 6/10 films I never heard of, I would say that perhaps turn down the money and put your name to something big.

As it stands you've worked on 8 films in the last year alone!
Which means you're doing very small bits here and there because you would never cover that much work if you were doing a core aspect of work which you're implying you are with your VFX supervisor role.

Also you've only been at LipSync for less than a year, and they're giving you 50% pay rises?

there are so many riddles. the planet scenes in the trailer doesnt look like the old planet in the 1979 movie. so the more we try to analyse details more riddles will surface. i think thats the trick for the promotion.

Major spoilers

1. a. Not too spoiler-ish answer to your first question (if you want details, read the second part).

There is a kind of face-hugger, but it's different from the one in Alien (you'll see in what respect). Basically the humans come across a similar kind of organisms but with some differences. The main similarity is the way they end up using hosts to reproduce, but there are enough differences to keep the alerted viewers (I mean those who have seen the Alien movies) in the dark as to what is going to happen next. It's also not as uniform across the different organisms as in Alien/Alien 2.

b. Answer to your first question in detail (major spoilers):
The organism which most resembles a face-hugger appears at the very end of the movie (there's also a giant mutated worm which penetrates the mouth of one of the humans earlier on), but it's a HUGE version of the face-hugger. It works basically the same way, in that it "impregnates" a host through his mouth then drops dead. We see its offspring come out of the host's belly in the final scene of the movie. There are no eggs, only jars, which basically contain the black organic liquid which leads to mutations into xenomorphs-like creatures (or to giving birth to such creatures, you'll see what I mean when you watch the movie).

2. The organisms we see in the movie are pretty much the cousins or earlier versions/ancestors of xenomorphs, including even a black organic liquid. The organism which emerges from a SJ's body in the final scene most closely resembles a xenomorph. And yes, those organisms were created by the space jockeys, and we are led to believe that they were to be used as weapons.

3. No, Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace's character) survives. David (Michael Fassbender), the android, also survives, even though his head is detached from his body. We are led to believe that Shaw will put his head and the rest of his body back together, but in the meantime David apparently does not need the rest of his body to keep talking and interacting with her.

Disappointing movie. 6/10.

Why would Ridley pick these 2 worthless scriptwriters for movie of such caliber?

Jon Spaihts only previous work is The Darkest Hour, which was utter trash, and Damon Lindelof wrote some LOST episodes.

Both are terrible writers and it shows in the movie. It's beautiful, but besides visual, everything else just falls apart.

Why Ridley, why?

Just got back from seeing it and all I can say is HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.

Some nice touches, but a mediocre pile of shit overall and I wanted this to be so good aswell. In fact I'm gob smacked at how sterile it was.

You know when you leave a cinema going is that it?

THIS IS THAT FILM!

If you're an aliens geek you should probably see it for the one or two nice references to the ~~second~~ first film.

Luckily, its not close enough to any of the aliens films to tarnish the fond memories of the first 2 and at a pinch the 3rd.

That's the kicker, I avoided the trailers on purpose not to spoil it.

When I see reailers, I know how the film will go.

I don't care, I can take lots of things from a film, the cgi was nice in places, it had some nice references to the other one's.

I'll take whatever I can get when it comes to the Alien/Predator franchise, but it was still poor.

I really liked it.

Sure the characters are not that developed but neither were Alien's and that's not the point...

The imagery was beautiful and most of the scenes had an eerie quality to them.

I think the point in the movie is in the classic sci-fi and psychoanalytical references : it questions being a mother, being a creator and being the created, it questions our relation with god(s). This was a way better movie than all the superhero crap nowadays or Avatar and modern sci-fi on a whole.

People who are saying it's shit are over reacting. It wasn't amazing and had some flaws, but it wasn't horrible. Worth the $8 if you're a fan of the genre. Personally I think there will be an extended director's cut which will clear up some of the plot gaps.

I dunno where you get your info, but I am holding out hope.

How do you know they were never filmed? The director's cut of Alien had 20 extra minutes (and that whole movie was fairly low budget) and these days studios love releasing multiple editions of the DVD/bluray. They first sell the standard theatrical right before Christmas. Then they'll sell the director's cut 3 months later. Then they'll sell an "ultimate collector's edition" which comes in a cheap plastic alien skull or something like that.

What is your source for the information about that spoiler scene? Knowing that theory makes me hate the film and writers. I was already aware of that theory but not of any scene that directly addressed it.

Yeah, that comment from him really surprised me as well. And in the movie, when during the initial briefing in the spaceship they mention mankind might have been created by aliens, the biologist goes "what? we're suddenly throwing 300 years of Darwinism out of the window?" (or something along those lines). I don't think ANY scientist, and certainly no biologist, would call evolution "darwinism". That's a word creationists tend to use.

Who also did Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Hood, Hannibal, Matchstick Men, etc...Seems to me that Ridley Scott is getting more credit than due. I'm probably one of the few people that thought Gladiator was overrated.

Alien was good for its time since it was, as far as I'm aware, one of the very first horror sci-fi films but was hardly epic in terms of dialogue or story. It was interesting because of the setting, the special effects and the way it was edited. Blade Runner, while aesthetically cool, is hardly an amazing film (dialogue is often pretty campy and had some campy moments throughout). They barely followed PKD's classic story. Personally, when I look at Scott's career, most of his films are popular based on the aesthetics and action rather than on dialogue or story.

Just for those people who wonder who I consider grade-A movie directors: Scoresese, Fincher, Paul Thomas Anderson, later Aronofsky, and the Coen brothers.

I went in to Prometheus expecting a high production value B-movie in the sci-fi genre. That's exactly what it was.

I don't think you can unenjoy something that already happened.

But more onto the point, people get really weird expectations on established (sci-fi/fantasy) franchises. They are meant to be crazy and ridiculous.

I read a lot of comics though and am used to people creating weird story lines. (recently read every alien/predator comic, some awesome stuff in there.)

I saw Prometheus last night and I have to say it's pretty average. I've been looking forward to Prometheus for a long time and I knew it wouldn't have much to do with the alien universe so that aspect has never been a problem to me.

The visuals and everything are of course amazing but the whole film just falls flat having a story that doesn't go anywhere or resolves itself. It felt like there were many people who wrote the story and it becomes a jumbled mess of concepts that have no seemingly obvious links together.

The film's pacing and how it presents you information is out of whack. Things happen then different things happen. I appreciate that they included many different genres into one film but it just feels like several different directors worked on seperate sections of the film without talking to each other then put the results together.

So as a stand alone film it isn't coherent but if you look at it from an Alian prequel point of view it does get worse, many things are contradictory or left unexplained. But from the outside I never had the Alien prequel goggles on anyway.

Anyway, overall it has good visuals, on the whole good acting but pretty much falls flat on everything else.

I did like the T E Lawrence references and it how it all tied in with David's actions. That was pretty cool.

imo Prometheus was much better than others made it out to be. I thought at least the majority of the movie was entertaining and engaging.

The Alien franchise has never been a holy grail of sci fi excellence. A lot of people expected too much and are understandably too use to shoddy sequels/prequels.

*SPOILER*
I think the people who were disenchanted by Prometheus were expecting an intimate window to the motivations of the Engineers. I can't think of a story line that would have satisfied anybody given the limits of a 2-3 hour movie. Perhaps some of the unanswered questions will be revealed in a sequel.

that would have been something. something no screenwriter would have possibly done right considering any good sci-fi shows how arrogant and tiny people are in terms of what could be out there.

but sure, lets assume "Engineers" are interesting. how about we don't have to look at cross-bearers, hear bullshit scientologist terms like 'darwinism' or see "scientists" act like complete idiots?
and what about the old-man make-up that looks like porridge, can we just see a real old man? why is he even on the ship anyway, with guards and medical personal and all, and apparently everyone has to run around like an idiot with no command structure or organization. no, I don't think the people who were disenchanted by Prometheus gave a slightest fuck about the 'Engineers', let alone the "intimate window to their motivations". I think they just expected shit to make sense, and be plausible.

PS: this movie wasn't that bad. visually it was pretty! at least it was better than Transformers 3

right, the killing motivation isnt really there. its the same in doom the movie with sarge or anakin`s switch in episode 3, its like there is something missing, 1-2 scenes.

-but Dave (Dave again) is so much anti-sympathetic in fact anti-anything that this whole affair makes me wanna break my nihilistic unborn yet "I Are Robot" (the resemblance to 2001 A Space Odyssey remains bogged down in 9/11, sorry -did I just hear something like "weapons of mass destruction"?)
-violent infected guy
-violent abortion (it's been there before, but c'mon, this is not a remake, or is it?)
-violent ending (same)
-inert OSX-ish architectural (in)aesthetics (spaceship, the interior, the lights, colours, even the spacesuits)
-the idea of immortal beauty got wrong -couldn't really understand if Cameron Diaz was playing there in the role of a human being or of an android, nor did the whole context rise my interest for her or for any other member of the crew; the way the creators of the movie got the idea of beauty revealed in the way it transcend on the screen give me only one sentence: grotesque. I know that even in reality many people get transformed into stone by their physical beauty, unable to articulate and thus maybe even becoming in the longrun usable objects with only one goal -pure pleasure -but c'mon, the movie did not dare to leave his middle class position for more than a fraction of a moment (see below)
-there is no sympathy however for anyone here, maybe a bit for the captain: the Dave is the flat, the archaeologists do not resemble any human emotions despite their huge suggestions that imply "deep" analogies into human history and they miss the only change for getting a bit of fresh air far away from home with failed erotic convulsions thanks to their so-called manners; the moment Cameron Diaz went down on her knees with the old men suggested the missed greatness of this movie, but this disgusting blowjob vague allusion was never enough
-on top of that, why connecting the dots with the first Alien, if not for having the perfect excuse for the lack of imagination of an old creator having to fight his own demons that seems to keep keeping his very past very much away of the creator (would the young director in the '80s kill the older one in 2012? maybe...)

i think they wanted a not so sympathic android, because otherwise you have this cliche "robot is better, more moral than humans" (AI, i robot, blade runner, sci fi literature). i didnt like android either.

the first alien was about family (ship was the mother) and sexuality. every character was like tolkiens lord of rings, not a full character but togehter you have a full person. so maybe they wanted only facetts of real person. so some motivations of a character are a riddle, not full shown.

on one hand the captain was a sympathicus, the guy from the street, whos doing a decision (ram the spaceship and die). but im not sure if he is believable. for me a captain (ship, plane) is at first a technician.

selling point, otherwise its a financial risk. people wanted to know about the space ship / the space jockey. when i saw the space jockey photo the movie was bought, no matter how good or bad the movie is.

the thing is, as a fan of old movies (and old games) you cant go nowhere. starwars, startrek, indiana jones etc.
