Nujabes - REAL Hip Hop (47 comments)

Anyone else listen to his music? If not, you should know he makes hiphop/jazz instrumental tracks, and all of it is absolutely amazing. He mostly creates the instrumental tracks, and they're either released on their own, or some hip hop artists add lyrics to it. He is also known by some people who watched Samurai Champloo, because he did most of the music for the show.

It's unfortunate that he passed away, because he was extremely underrated, and I think had he of had more time in the music industry, his beautiful music would have been a success.

Modal Soul Classics II was just released about a week ago, which is a dedication album to Nujabes, with some more amazing artists on it.

No doubt there is still many unreleased tracks from him, but Hydeout Productions has only put out the newest Modal Soul, and that's it.

If you've never heard any work by Nujabes, I will put some links below here of some of his work. Zack Austin (also known as Nistua) creates music very similar to Nujabes, as well as Kondor and Blazo. I hope you enjoy Nujabes, his work is beautiful :D

Dj Krush is my favourite! He is from japan aswell.

He mostly does trip hop but some collaborations with rappers too. Recommended to check all albums since they differ from style a lot!

And thanks, gotta check more about this Nujabes, sounds good.

Damn, i never thought there were Nujabes fan in this site :D. Glad to hear. Best hip hop producer since J-Dilla imo. You guys should check out Nomak,Uyama Hiroto and Dj Okawari which have similar style of Nujabes. Rest in Beats SebaJun :(

It's real hip hop in the sense that it's art just like other valid forms of music.
If you didn't know, there is a difference between rap and hip hop. MTV and radio stations label everything hip hop when in reality almost none of it is. It's rap, or personally what I call pop rap.
Rap is basically a watered down offshoot of hip hop with no substance that is purely about making money. It is disposable with no artistic merit.
So yes, real hip hop is good; or at least it's a valid form of music if it's not your cup of tea.

Well in the past it was acceptable to interchange the terms hip hop and rap but some time in the '90s the two got separated.
It's said that the four elements of hip hop culture are MCing, DJing, breaking and graffiti. Today's rap music really has nothing to do with this stuff.
A good comparison for hip hop vs. rap would be metal vs. nu-metal. However I doubt you would like hip hop much better than rap, or possibly wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two, since hip hop also involves a lot of "niggers" and judging from your androgynous emo photo it's not your type of music. Which is fine.

"Real hip-hop" meh. Imo it's hip-hop with strong jazz influences edging on the trip-hop genre. The latter might be something you should check out if you like this type of music.

If you like hip-hop, artists like RJD2, Wax Tailor, DJ Frane, UNKLE, Blockhead.
For more melody/vocals I'd recommend Thievery Corporation, Kruder & Dorfmeister albums, Boards of Canada, Portishead. For "real" trip-hop artists; Sneaker Pimps, Tricky, Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Blue Foundation
