I recently discovered the article about designing a new Q3 - http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1681527 , which brought up some ideas that I've had in mind for quite a while now.

I can nothing more than agree with the statement about xerp, since it seems to provoke an endless amount of whine and such.

All all of u already know, QuakeLive is entering the world of gaming in the speed of light as we speak, sure it's got a few flaws, especially the "netcode", this ofc contributed alot of ideas why we should think over the current state of CPM, and why it should change a bit.

These are the changes i had in mind regarding the CPM gameplay;

First of all, we should replace the shaft with something more powerful and useful, like the vq3 machinegun for example, the weak shaft with its limited range contributes to alot the ridiculously brainless running away from fights which we can find in CPM. Some people would say that its "more aim", cause u need to aim on your opponent for a longer time.. I would say that it doesnt matter cause it removes situations where u can jump on people in a sneaky-smart way to get the advantage in a fight.

Also, to add some kind of stun/cripple effect would also be nice to see, to prevent some of the (+backing) if u want to call it that)

To add a slight weaponchange delay is kinda high on my to-do-list aswell, cause i think one of most important things in q3 should be to enter a fight with the correct weapon, the semi-instant weaponchange is simply causing CPM to be even more brainless, i think my ideas would improve the gameplay alot and possibly make it require some more brains.

Possibly remove the ramp and stairjumps, just to add _some_ limitations in the movement, so u can force enemies to go exactly where u want them to.

The level of resources in CPM is the ideal for gametypes like Free For All, CA, and possibly INSTAGIB, so my ideas for FFA is to let the armor remain as it is, cause no one plays it. the ideas for CA are as follows;
- Add BFG, remove the shaft. everything else is fine
Instagib, tough one.. maybe add some splashdamage on the beam, or some kind of explosion ( shouldnt be lethal in 1 hit OFC)

What sorts of concepts or changes might be interesting for a new gameplay based on the air control style?
