What's changed is more stairs, moved some stairs, took a look at some stairs and then stairjumped some.
Oh and playerclipped alot of the hallways to prevent getting stuck. For spyte!

The jumppad in the little room between Mid and Haste is now stairs instead. Was never used.

i really like the way it looks. too bad i don't know anything at all about NTF or even CTF to comment on gameplay. make some new duel maps broseph.

I specced a game of this and it looked pretty fucking good actually, only thing I noticed is how easily a powerup can be lost at mid (if it goes in the void it's not coming out)

giving this cpm-made map a big + :)

i also like how the actual middle point with powerup is a small area (with lots of exit options), leaving two larger areas on each side for each team to defend. seems different from maps ive seen... just my 2cents..

You've done the same mistake as hundreds before you ;)

Map features such as jumppads etc have to be visible in both picmip 0 and 5+.
You cannot rely on high-res textures to indicate where active map elements are. Players should never have to guess whether there's a jumppad in the corner or not, they should be able to see it.


The lighting seems rather hurried and incomplete, this is also more visible at picmip 5 than 0.

There are also pretty huge differences in how bright the different areas of the map are. The white/black textures look ok in picmip 0, but in picmip 5 there are just bright white.

about the jump pad thing alone... how much of a problem is it in actual gameplay? play the map a couple of times and you learn where everything is located.

Good map design does not require people to guess+learn+remember where/what active map elements are.

Jumppads+elevators+triggers are the most obvious elements that simply HAVE to be clear.

On a more subtle (and slightly irrelevant) note are "directions".
If you take q3w3/q3wcp5 as examples: They are U mirrored (not S mirrored like wcp1) and there's no clear indication of whether you should turn right or left. Meaning you have to remember that Red side is left and Blue side is right.
This might sound like a small issue, but the number of times I've seen FCs running backwards while shooting at chasing enemies, only to run right into a wall since they thought they could turn left when they should have turned right, makes me think otherwise.

Obviously S mirrored (wcp1) or I mirrored (wcp9) maps don't have this particular problem. Nevertheless directions, preferably through structure, should always have high priority.

A map where it quickly becomes instinctive where quad/mid/flags/etc are is a good map.

Even more off-topic ramble: If you look at the good/played maps, most of them are rather simple in their core design. I've seen too many "fancy" maps made by mappers that want to show EVERY aspect of their talents in one map, making that map horrible. K.I.S.S.

Q3wcp9 is probably the most played map and it's basically just solidly structured with a mid,frontbase,base and clear high/low. Obviously the big open mid got fucked when people started to hit 50% accs with hitscan, but with some weapon switching it could be playable again, the underlying map is still good.

Well, in general I dislike U mirrored maps. And unless you remember whether it's left/right on blue/red side then you WILL make wrong decisions on U maps that don't have directions.

Even more off-topic: U/S mirrored maps also tend to have more errors (q3ctf2 is a prime example), but then again, cp9 isn't mirrored properly either so...

? I'm playing with picmip 5 and got no problems seeing them. Of course, I already know where they are.
And it's not done visually. Atm the only lighting is from shaders and the sky. Rest is ambient. :)

Your map might have a problem with vertexlight, it's been known to happen before that dynamiclighting looks fine while vertex fucked.

That does indeed look confusing. If you send me the cfg I could try tweaking the lighting for vertex aswell. Maybe the -cpma tag will fix it.
