lost all faith in swedish national football team tbh, the hockey team is better and hockey is funnier to watch for someone not into sports a whole lot imo. also i think its slightly pathetic being totally uninterested in sports all year and all of a sudden being hyper-interested solely because a national team of your country plays. Those are the teams that are playing best in this tournament, you don't win tournaments based on friendly results.

Romania did fuck all while France walked about doing fuck all themselves. Match winning football from Romania right there. Greece played better football than you guys. (By the way I do think Romania are a good team, just judging on your first game you were terrible, against a team who also played terrible)

If the luck had run Russias way it could have been 2-2 or even 2-3 rather than 4-1 and for periods they outplayed Spain, one of the most technically gifted teams in the tournament.

"My team" aren't even in the fucking competition you dumb Lithuanian (despite what it may seem I don't actually care who wins, I just like to watch good football).

Your comment reeks of typical Eastern European Russia hate, are you seriously telling me you don't get my point?

You may also notice that I put Italy alongside Russia who also lost (3-0 no less) and have zero points, Russia came up against many peoples tournament favourites (Alongside Germany) and came away beaten 4-1 but the game could have been a lot closer had the luck gone their way.

Romania played against France, a decent team who struggled in qualifying, have a lot of old players and didn't seem to want to put any effort into the game (Did you see Anelka stand still for about 60seconds while his team tried to get past the Romanian defence?) and Romania didn't manage to create anything.

Yes I know what you were trying to say and maybe in your world I support Russia but in my world I don't. I like Russia, but I don't like them any more than I like Croatia, Holland and Spain.

That may be true about goals but a team who creates lots of chances plays nice football and loses 1-0 against a team who had one chance and took it for me is generally the better team.

A spectator. I'm not playing, I couldn't care less if a team plays boring football for a whole tournament and wins all the games 1-0 with "lucky" headers/penalties etc. (Hi Greece!) I'll still think the better team is the one who plays attractive, skillful, attacking football.

Romania are good at defending and Mutu is a good finish, but they aren't good enough to out-play anybody. Grinding results out can only get you so far and despite Greece managing to win with that tactic it won't happen again.

Thats not clearly an offside, cause the 1st polish player wasnt giving a pass, he was striking for a goal, and the other pole got it afterwards by ricochet from an austrian player, and at that moment he already was not at offside.

Offside counts only in case of pass, not goal strike :P

It counts from the pass not the deflection, thus he was offside.

Basically

1) He's in an offside position
2) A shot is the same as a pass in football
3) He is "active"

Therefore the goal is offside.

Sigh when the ball was struck he was in an offside position and therefore gained an advantage on his opponent. It doesn't matter if the ball touched an Austrian on it's way to the Polish player or if he was onside when he got the ball it matters where he was when the ball was played. I'm quite sure he wouldn't give that penalty in any Premiership match for that kind of behaviour, but he gave it in the 93 minute of the most important match in group (for us, and Austria) B :D Controversial decision for sure, but who cares now. We sucked anyway.

The penalty was arguable, the offside goal wasn't.
There was also another possible penatly not given for austria somewhen in the 2nd half.

I can't believe they make the ref responsible for the draw in Poland.
With another ref you would probably have lost.

well, i agree that it's a stretch to say he's better than ronaldo. on the other hand his play against Poland as a left midfielder was awesome.
he bases his opinion on the fact that podolski did a great job defending his side, getting balls in midfield tackling. he had a good duel (sounds stupid, but i dunno what "zweikampf" means) percentage.
while ronaldo is not working as a defender at all. so he's talking about the ability to work as an all around player. he's a learned striker ukno.

I think that Podolski has been the better player so far in the euro 2008. Overall, the past 2 years or so, though C.Ronaldo (if that is the ronaldo you are talking about, so many of them these days) has obviously been the better player.

I disagree, since Ronaldo actually has been playing really well!
Last game he scored one goal and had to assists! Everytime he has the ball, it is pretty sure that something dangerous will occur. That is why every team has two defending players around him constantly!

Concerning Podolski, yes he scored 3 goals in 2 games, and yes in the game vs Poland he played really well! But first, he has'nt got the same effect on the defence as Ronaldo, he played a pretty average game vs Croatia even though he scored and his game is not as direct and dangerous as Ronaldos!
That being said, he is a really good player, and has been on of the best in the tourney, but i dont think he has played as well as Ronaldo!

Anyways, hopefully we havent seen the best of any of them yet!

well.. the score was fair since Italy had a valid goal cancelled for offside, but the match was nowhere near dominated by one side.

honestly i don't blame cech, he was solid throughout the tournament...it's the players and couch who fucked it up..koller should have been replaced by baros/sverkos later on for break opportunities, koller was really slow and did quite nothing towards the end, his 'break' was quite laughable ;p ..and the last goal where 4 players were just looking at the turks...bah ;p

You don't stop the clock for such crap and the time was already added.

one of turkish players got injured and terim wanted to substitute him. but it took 3 minutes for the 4th referee to show the substitution and during that 3 mins czechs scored the 2nd goal as we were down to 10 men.(our bench got mad at this you may remember)

so, this was another thing to criticize, imo. also the yellow cards at the beginning of the game weren't correct.

Croatia are a very good side both tactically and technically (They're not Brazil/Spain/Holland but it's not a massive gap), it's not like the Germany game was a one off win against a big team. They have the talent to get to the final and it would be no surprise to me if they did. Portugal are pretty overrated and I'm sure both Germany and Croatia can handle.

They beat the Germans with smart tactics and good play, they should have been 3-0 up at half time if my memory serves me correctly but Krancjar bottled two clear cut attempts, so it's not like they luck won the match against Germany (And in fact the scoreline is slightly misleading). It wasn't that Germany didn't play well either, it was Croatia didn't allow them to play well through smart tactics and good ball retention.

They didn't even have their main goal threat Eduardo playing...

They scored the first and Krancjar had two clear cut chances that he fucked up totally (First one he got under the ball and blasted it over and the second he volleyed it right at good old Jens) both of those chances were far better than the ones they actually scored (Jansen mistake + Insane luck deflection and post)

It's hard to pass through an organised five man midfield which is why Germany gave the ball away like they did. Croatia on the other hand passed the ball and moved in small amounts always making space to pass/receive and the Germans couldn't close them down quick enough (they tried though!).

Eduardo is a goal machine, he's probably the best finisher out there.

Germany were present, they were always trying to close down the Croatian players and make space/runs/pass it about when they had possession. Croatia just played them out of the game, short passes, made lots of space, tired Germany out and put them under pressure (Forcing mistakes!) etc.

Man, you just cant accept a loss vs someone better. You're broken just like France nowadays, and beating you isn't really the greatest win of our history. Its big cause it was important, but not really that hard. Germany today is an above average team with a shitty coach. Podolski is nothing special, and Ballack plays as much as you let him. Because we are a young team playing without our best player who scored like 7 or 8 goals in the quals, dunno really how much, cause we beat poles with 7 or 8 substitutes, and we still have a lot to progress and gain from experience. now we are playing on maybe 70% of our potential.

shit happens, what can you do. game was over couple of mins before referee decided its over, he ignored our substitution, would prolly wait for 20 mins more till the turks scored a goal, and thats it.

ballacks goal (3rd for germany) was, again, clean foul cause he pushed the defender before, and decos goal was disallowed for offside, but it wasnt offside.

now i have to root for germany against the shitty turks cause they all have alah totems up their asses, but in the finals russia awaits, and we know what happens then. =)

no we usually are good at accepting losses, please confirm 2000,2002,2004 (The whine in 2006 against was more about how they beat us not that they did)
But we haven't played a better team so far in this Eurocup ;)

God, I hope Italy beat the Netherlands in the semis just to show them how stupid they were in beating Romania. :)

Other than that scenario, I still hope the Netherlands win Euro 2008. I also do believe Italy will have a hard time against Spain without Pirlo and Gattuso was it?

too cautious, too scared of the outcome.. like with France in the first game, only worse

they had to play more openly.. it's not like someone would've been outraged for losing 2-0, 3-1 or something :))

exactly, he just can't shoot. yesterday it was rather obvious again that sweden has a retarded coach; we use a forward as a midfielder (instead of k�llstr�m, who might be the best midfielder we have!), we don't even make all substitutions allowed, every offensive move starts with some random longshot from our defense, usually ending up with us having the ball about 5 seconds for every 5 minutes the other team has it. i could go on forever, needless to say, i wish we would've played it like russia did. :(

You guys played like England, two passes then felt the need for the "killer ball" or the "amazing long shot". It's really shocking how redundant teams with decent footballing heritage and previously were either powerhouses or just beneath as strong contenders have fallen behind in terms of techinal and tactical ability to teams with no real history.

I really don't get why K�llstr�m has been on the bench, he's a great player and I don't get why at 70-80 minutes in, 2-0 down your manager didn't bring on any more offensive players (like S.Larsson). Some fresh legs/ideas and more attack power is what is obviously required in that situation.

It's a shame Ljungberg lost a lot of his ability some years ago as at one point he was actually amazing at just about everything.

Russia never fail to create some nice football moments even if the finish/final ball isn't always there. A real shame they're meeting Holland (And met Spain already) so early in the tournament.

Yeah it's bizarre that Seb Larsson and Kallstrom don't get to play while Ljungberg is his usual useless self and Henke looked way past it(didn't stop the Icelandic announcers from sucking his dick constantly though). Not to mention playing Elmander out on the wing wtf.

Lets see, they beat Turkey with a decent performance, beat a poor Czech team, lost to Switzerland and lost to Germany.

That's hardly a great performance at all is it?

Holland played well in all of their games, Spain have played well mostly, Russia have been good (even in both Spanish games they played better than Portugal at any time), Germany while they haven't set the world on fire have played better than most teams have.

Ok, Luca Tony is like a tree. Except, the tree can move better. That was my impression of him against Spain.

I am glad, that the Croatians are out, because, they were the whole time like "omfg we are the greatest, we will win, we are the gods..."
They played good against the germans (my favourites), but all the other games were really second class. No offence redemz, just my opinion. I really like you love for your country, but @ some times it can blind your judgement.

But omfg @ the turkys. "A game is over when the referee whistles" is really true!
