its not a specific cfg that makes you aim better, its the change. e.g.: if you play longer with coollers cfg, your skill will get back to the same level as it was with your own. Its just the change to other settings that makes you aim a bit better for a short amount of time, i have felt the same thing often enough ;)

Do you know that one cannot instantly adapt completely to new settings.

Why not load up your own cfg and make a drastic mouse setting change and see what happens? You'll probably rail better/worse for a few days then it'll be back to normal again.

cooller uses highish accel, so of course flicks are slightly harder to get used to...

Heh. I beat cooller in every practice game we had (dm6 only of coz) the few days prior to eswc 2005 where he was actually performing very well at the tournament. What's up with him anyway, sucking online and seem to be ok at lan... never felt he had a good feel for dm6, but neither did fazz. He was kinda bad at it.

I always wondered how cooller could become so dominant without really being the best player on any of the maps. There's atleast 2 swedes who I'd rate above him on dm6 and quite a bunch of russians/belarussians who could beat him on ztn. Besides that he was never all that great on t4 and hub :p

On what pings/servers did you guys play? I remember playing some russian 2on2 teams when that one ec took place and... well things were kinda unfair and had no real meaning in the end.

Because cooller is a tournament player? It is one thing to throw him around in a practice or online game. But very different to face him in a game that actually matters on LAN.

swe servers, I had 10-15 ping and he 10-20. was the same in-game and he hit all his shots as usual but it wasn't the aim that was bad.
edit: we played several games, last was the day before eswc when he shoulda been tip-top and raped my ass since he's so great. But I was in my prime on dm6 so I dno.. :P

any demos? all I ever hear is that you beat all these great players all the time (although only dm6), I'd really love to see a demo where you do that :)

Anyone can beat anyone in a random online game. Hell, even I have beaten some top players but I stand no chance once they step up a gear for tourneys.

An online practice game isn't the same as a tourney game. Regardless if it's the day before the tourney.

Hell, you could play a lan practice game an hour before the tourney starts and the game still wouldn't matter.

While you can't argue with cooller's record and great games on it when I watch him play the map I don't get a feeling he's better than anyone else in particular. With cooller I really think it is a case of a player who is a jack of all trades master of none (In fact in all aspects of his game too).

I did find an aim improvement messing with cooller config funny enough, although you have to take in account all the other factors that alter the mouse input/output.

They played real a real defensive game not a psuedo-defensive game like Jibo which is actually quite aggressive (with exceptions e.g. vs z4muz)

i know he can be agressive, it's not like i dislike his playstyle, but he's called jibotality for a reason :)

People call him Jiboality or whatever because they are clueless and saw him play a few games where he admitedly played defensive. But using that logic, czm is the most defensive player I've ever seen because I watched him play ztn against cooller. The fact is, the majority of the time on the majority of maps Jibo is aggressive (e.g. ztn against anyone bar z4muz or pt4 especially against toxic at eswc).

Maybe the Jiboality was because he +backed at the end of maps to protect leads, something which you can attribute to just about every other player who has ever won a close game.

I also highly suggest you check out b100.Death demos on ztn (e.g. vs uNkind where he does lose in the end but it's almost an amazing display of defense). Death was an amazing defense player who really did play defence not just spam grenades.

It is ALL experience. Trust me, I switch my cfg daily. On 110 fov enemy keel, i can place magnificent rockets, but hardly hit rails. If i change my enemy model to tankjr, I will lg 35+ on semi-pros in cpma. But my rockets become terrible. On 100 fov and keel I will have average aim with all guns %35 acc mg/lg %45 rail and alright rockets. With tankjr however, I will hit %50 rail but my rockets will become terrible. On 90 fov with keel, i actually LOSE rail percent. I have no idea why. But my lg and mg is constant 40+ . On tankjr I will aim %60 rail and my Shotgun becomes instant death, but my rockets fail again.


I've been all over every cfg and sensitivity and crosshair setting in quake 3. And I will always change back to what I find MOST fun in quake, even if i can't aim good at all, I will always switch back to 110 fov, with keel. Just because it is fun to play in. I <3 my rockets and movement on 110 fov.

It is also about what mouse you use, how you hold it, your arm posture, postion, length, your mousemat, how close you are to the PC, and of course Windows settings.

I've got everyones config. Even ceal.storm. I only see a hard/soft difference, between diff resolutions and mapoverbrights being 1/0.
Not between sensitivity or accel.

And tankjr is easy as shit to rail, JUST AIM AT THE GUN. Yes, the gun tankjr holds, you can't miss even if his back is to you. Half the model is over the hitbox, but since his movement left/right is quite easy to track, aim at the arm holding the gun, and you never miss. *got this watching FFsmasher/Viju/Toxic and Z4muZ.*

strange, i didnt, i tried that with fox, tox, czm, cooller and jibo config. replaced their bindings with mine and played. Didnt feel anything special. After i played 2 hours with their configs im back to my normal skill level.

It's a placebo. You just aim differently based upon the FOV and sensitivity you use, and your brain is tricked into aiming differently based upon the crosshair they use for whatever weapon they set it to. It's not like they have magical ninja configs that allow them to hit every rail ever.

They only feel different because they're not the config you're used to. ;p That's all.

well i ve been playing some quake 3 again.... couldnt hit shit until i installed my toxicFX.cfg.... most impressive config ever!

...think its more about connection settings and location (distance from the server you play on) its all a matter of point and click

some ingredientsthat might improve ur aim:

rate
snaps
cl_maxpackets
timenudge
cg_fov
crosshairsize
model
picmip
r_mode
vertex

(play with these setings until u get best visibility and direct aim..good aim is all about the connection 2 the server and your isp)

hmm these are only a few ingredients of things that might improve ur aim..the list goes on and on... one wrong setting in the cfg makes u aim like a total noob... sometimes your aim gets influenced bij te server settings... p_move for example.. or sv_fps and crap like that

most important: dont download a cfg of one of the pros and think u ll be playing like one just because of the config... the best thing to do is create your own cfg with your own preferences... thats the only way 2 go =)

It are probably the mousesettings in a particular config that changes the feeling when playing. Variables like in_mouse, cl_mouseaccel, m_pitch/m_yaw and of course sensitivity change the feeling of the mouse ingame. Other players use other settings, so there mouse feeling is just how they want it to be.

Also little graphic things could change gamesense, like cg_drawgun and the way the rail is shown.

You should set cg_its_all_in_the_mind to "0". Guaranteed effect!

The main problem of any player is to bring maximum of his talent (big or not) into the game via his mind using tech means like cfg settings and others. These means include all that connects player's mind with virtual reality : hands - mice, eyes - display. All things like good sleep, good place, good mood are VERY important too.

But cfg settings are basics to good aim. Every player has his own reality catch and therefore virtual reality catch in same way. Thats why every new cfg looks so different. Goal is to find right cfg for you, cfg that will bring maxixum of your mind ito the game.

Sometimes it cappen that you cant take even single frag from player - this means that this player got too much space in the game. Same situation can be seen in chess, but in q3 its not only mind ownage, its mind-tech ownage.

Thats why sometime coller cant hit one rail while czm hit 10. There were jsut at diferent mind-tech levels of play.
