Event: QLAN
Second in my interview series is fox. He was seeded #2 for the tourney at Q-Lan. I managed to get a few minutes before he went home, just after collecting the king-size checks of 13,000 and 4,000* SEK, respectively; his clan - ic - winning the TDM competition over EYE, and fox finishing 3rd in the duel tourney.(* If I remember correctly; there was no info on prize money available to verify it.)
We were standing outside the LAN among the shady buildings by the river docks with the ic clan, who were waiting for their car to pick them up, and the spring sun was warming a cool breeze that took the edge off sitting in a dark room for four days. This is what I asked him:
Do you feel a player can improve by configging?
Yes. I can play with pretty much any config, but you always play better with a config that you have made as comfortable for yourself as possible. The settings you use should convey the "feel" of the game [like weapons and physics], it doesn't matter what game it is. I think all games should be as configurable as possible, to let the player decide what he thinks is comfortable for him.Yes, what about other games? You tried some UT2k3, but you didn't like it?
No. But not because you can't config as much, there's a lot more settings to tweak than you might think. But the UT2k3 gaming scene have to decide on what's allowed and not.Snus?
Nope. I don't need it, or anything else to keep me going.About your play style. Do you use zoom only when railing? Some guys never zoom.
I use zoom for railing, and also when I'm shafting. And sometimes when I have to place a rocket in the right place.High or low sensitivity?
Medium I guess. I use sensitivity 6 - I measure about 1 1/4 revolutions for the width of the pad.How important is the sitting position in order not to suck? :D
Very important, of course.Important enough to bring your own office chair to LAN's ? ;)
I was thinking about that, but there wasn't nearly enough room in the car. (I look to my left and see the Silver-metallic Saab Combi Coupe.)You use zoom. Does that mean you have the same FOV for all weapons?
No. I have a different FOV for each weapon, the FOV that is right for that weapon.About your setup. I noticed you don't play with your modified Wingman? (A Wingman ball mouse with a Microsoft optical sensor)
No, I noticed it didn't read the surface right when I did this movement (moves hand vertically). I guess I didn't line the sensor up properly. So I used a Microsoft Wheelmouse Optical for this LAN. I play with Icemat, and I have Sennheiser HD 570 headphones.I have the same model, and they're great, but I hate that they're not covered. Don't you hear everything around you when you play duels?
Yes, so you can't really rely on sound to tell you where the enemy is, so you have to play with that in mind. But I have to have "open" headphones for TDM, so I can hear what my teammates say.How would you describe your gaming style?
Adaptive. I adapt my style to the opponent's, always.(At this point, the car was being loaded, so I felt it was time to round off the interview.)
Well, congratulations on winning some prize money from both the competitions! <-- (gah, what a lame line, but it's what this green-horn interviewer came up with in the last minute...)
I smiled and shook his hand, and as I went past him to go back inside, I thought I heard a slightly sarcastic "puss" from him, which in Swedish means roughly "kiss kiss", and is usually said to persons who tend to suck up too much :P ehhehee... well, it's hard to stay neutral when you're interviewing your idol.
