Walmart sends four RTX 5070 Ti cards for one (No comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 13:43 UTC, 28 September 2026 - iMsg

Reddit user deadmanwonderland_23 says a $1,099 Walmart order for one MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16GB arrived as four. They are the Frieren edition, listed at $1,259 on MSI's own store, so the four boxes are a bit over $5,000. The post shows four identical cartons. Walmart has not confirmed the shipment, and the buyer has not said whether the extra three were reported.

GTA 2 gets path tracing, 27 years late (No comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 13:43 UTC, 28 September 2026 - iMsg

Modder gebdag has put path tracing on Grand Theft Auto 2, the 1999 top-down game. GTA2 RTX Remix, on Nvidia's RTX Remix, lets fires, explosions and gunfire cast light, adds a day-night cycle and 16:9, and aims frame generation at 60 fps. GTA 2 does not speak DirectX 9, so two DLLs translate. A copy of the game is still required. Rockstar gave version 9.6 away in 2004. Any GeForce RTX card can run it. A 4070 or faster is the suggestion.

Nvidia trailer thieves get 40,000 pounds of sand (No comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 13:43 UTC, 28 September 2026 - iMsg

Thieves in Fremont, California took two PlusAI trailers because they had Nvidia logos on them. They got about half a mile, then opened the doors. Each trailer held 20,000 pounds of sand, 40,000 pounds in all. PlusAI packs the trailers that way so its Nvidia-backed autonomous trucks can practice hauling freight. The computers were in the cabs, which stayed in the warehouse. Police recovered both trailers with the sand still in them. No arrests.

would i have anything that happened in my trip to be any interest to the community of ESR.

I have twice to land upon Narita airport. Once was NEX and another Keisei. you must know Tokyo metropolitan choices of train could be JR, Toei and metro.

i have felt an end to my gaming interest. And again would it have anything to do with ESR to a good question and argument.

Sup guys, just wanted to share that theres a "Quake Community" facebook group with 16k users. But they dont share anything about the big cups, streams, etc.

I made some posts about them but they never got approved, yet the admins post and approve shit like "Oh look i found a broken Quake 1 disc in the atic".

Supposing 50% of those 16k check the group here and there, its a lot of eyes. We need majored posts about the important competitive stuff still happening there.

Ive tried and failed, so if you got ideas or a facebook account and want to try something, DO IT!

id layoff call lasted about 50 seconds (8 comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 18:55 UTC, 23 September 2026 - iMsg

Andrew Willis, a producer on Doom: The Dark Ages and its Revelations expansion, described the July id Software layoff call in an interview with Kiwi Talkz.

Staff were told not to come into the office. About 95 people then got a Teams invite. Cameras off, chat disabled, everyone muted except Marty Stratton.

I received a Microsoft Teams invite, there were about 95 of us, no cameras on with chat disabled, everyone muted except Marty Stratton. He took about 50 seconds to say that if you were on this call, your positions were eliminated. He said it wasn't a reflection on our performance.

He said that was the last direct word from id or Microsoft for many of them, and that people were not allowed back in to collect their things.

SyncError stops work on Quake Champions (No comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 17:48 UTC, 21 September 2026 - iMsg

Adam "SyncError" Pyle told the official Quake Discord on 20 September that he is no longer working on Quake Champions updates. The four-week return that started 31 August, to finish 1.31, is over.

On 18 September he had stopped new code and was only answering QA tickets for features already in testing. This goes past that. A player suggested more changes for 1.31. He replied:

I'm no longer working on QC updates.

Asked whether to retire the Discord channel, he posted a farewell GIF and added:

Everyone's dad dies eventually. It's time for me to leave you.

He said the dad is dying. Turns out he was just dying to leave.

No replacement developer is named. He has not said whether 1.31 ships, or whether it is the last QC update. That build still drops the Store, Battle Pass, and paid currencies, and unlocks most vanity.

Bloodrun adds CTF bots, reworks mouse accel (2 comments)

CTF is a menu mode with a capture limit. Carriers drop the flag on the ability button, 2s before they can pick it up again, teammates can take it immediately. Picking up a flag cancels an active ability. Bots now attack flags, escort teammates, and intercept carriers. Ultra Nightmare bots hunt when behind. Nav points on 11 maps.

Also: ten HUD crosshairs with per-weapon shapes, a duel scoreboard, server-side rewind toggle per hitscan (MG, SG, LG, RG), pickup radius 80 to 75, BSP 47 support.

BlizzCon: StarCraft shooter, Diablo V, WoW Forever (No comments)

The StarCraft site glitch was the shooter. BlizzCon opening ceremony, 12 September: StarCraft returns as an original open-world shooter, spring 2030. Not an RTS. Set in the Koprulu Sector, about 70 years after Legacy of the Void. Cinematic only, no gameplay.

Dan Hay (Far Cry 3-6, now Blizzard GM) introduced it:
This is something new: an open-world shooter where every step is earned. Not from above, but down on the ground, in the mud, in the fire.
Blizzard: "it's about damn time." Title is just StarCraft. Ghost and Ares were the last two shooter attempts; both died.

Also: Diablo V, spring 2029, Sanctuary already fallen. Diablo IV Season of Hell's Legacy 15 September (Prime Evils, Deckard Cain). Animated Diablo series with Netflix.

World of Warcraft: Forever, third track next to Modern and Classic, Vanilla-era, 4 November, beta 17 September. Warcraft III: Reforged Forsaken Kingdom campaign is out now, first new WC3 story in 23 years.

QC 1.31 PTS: drop Store, unlock champions (15 comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 10:32 UTC, 10 September 2026 - iMsg

Adam "SyncError" Pyle posted a Quake Champions 1.31 PTS changelog in the official Quake Discord on 7 September. It is marked DEVELOPMENT IN PROGRESS - NOT FINAL. The build is not on the Steam PTS client yet.

Today's PTS update reflects our first step towards removing paid Battle Passes and microtransactions in favor of making the champions and vanity content unlocked for everyone.

Listed for removal: Battle Pass, Weekly and Event Challenges, the Store, Platinum and Shard, loot boxes, daily login rewards, Champion Progression shard rewards. Almost all vanity unlocks for everyone. Promo exclusives stay with current owners (AMD Ruby Nyx, Twitch Rocket Launcher, Nvidia Pulsar Railgun). QuakeCon belts and Golden Crowns stay merit-only.

Asked how you rename once the Store is gone:

Change it now if you're interested.

No replacement rename system is announced. Rename tokens are a Store purchase today.

Also in the notes: leveling to 999, kick votes, bot and net/input work, an Adaptive FPS Stabilizer, and QCON 2026 skins for the starting Machinegun, Shotgun, and Nailgun.

He is on a four-week window to finish 1.31.

Steam already at $15bn gross for 2026 (1 comment)
Posted by Demiurge @ 20:30 UTC, 4 September 2026 - iMsg

Alinea Analytics has Steam at $15 billion gross for January through August 2026. Up about 15% on the same stretch last year, and already more than all of 2023. They think the year finishes well above $20 billion for the first time.

New 2026 games are not carrying it. The top six new releases are under $1 billion combined, about 6.6% of the total:

  • Forza Horizon 6: $210.5 million
  • Crimson Desert: $203.3 million
  • Resident Evil Requiem: $200.9 million
  • Slay the Spire 2: $148 million
  • Subnautica 2: $139.2 million
  • Meccha Chameleon: $89.8 million

The top 100 new 2026 games are about $2.4 billion, 15.9%. 63% of those titles are new IP. 52.5% of that revenue is still established franchises.

Steam has logged about 19,000 new releases this year already, on pace with all of 2025 and past 2024. Alinea flags the generative-AI dump as the next problem for anyone trying to get seen.

These are estimates, not Valve's books.

Archon posts Quake board game PvE playthrough (2 comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 20:30 UTC, 4 September 2026 - iMsg
Archon Studio put up a cooperative playthrough of Quake: The Board Game. Rangers fight through a facility, recover Runic Keys, and seal an unstable Slipgate before it implodes.

Players plan at the same time with Action Cards. Slam lets you dump cards for extra movement, attacks, or heals. The deck is also ammo, stamina, and your connection to the server: spend too many without restocking and you cannot finish the round. Killing monsters and grabbing loot puts cards back.

Enemies run off a Control Card deck. Maps have High Ground, Low Ground, jumping, and jump pads. The co-op campaign is what they showed. Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are still planned.

The Gamefound page is a campaign preview, not live pledging. About 13,000 followers. 1-4 players, about 60 minutes, 14+. Named expansions: Flesh and Runes (original Quake) and Stroggification (Quake 2 / 4). Archon has said rocket jumps are in.

StarCraft site glitches ahead of BlizzCon (No comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 20:30 UTC, 4 September 2026 - iMsg

The official StarCraft website is glitching on purpose. Images twitch. Text flashes. The page still sells StarCraft Remastered. The source does not.

Fans opened the JavaScript console and found a failed Terran Dominion login (user 2560037-DA, flagged, told to contact the service desk), a refused request for "special order 176," and a 2575 memo from a redacted first sergeant. Theta Squadron is inbound to the Roxara lunar mining complex. A freighter lands first. The crates are "pivotal to our research." Handle them carefully. Every scrap so far is Terran-only. No Zerg. No Protoss.

2575 is about 70 years after StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void.

Same week, Korea's Chosun said Nexon is close to a deal with Blizzard for a StarCraft successor. First pass sounded like an IP sale. Later wording is a development license. Genre is still a mess: some of the Korean reporting says StarCraft 3, older reporting said a Nexon shooter, and Blizzard was separately incubating an open-world shooter under former Far Cry lead Dan Hay. Two StarCraft shooters at once is a stretch. An RTS from Nexon is the other rumor. Nobody has confirmed either.

BlizzCon is 12-13 September. Opening ceremony 17:30 UTC on the 12th. Day-one main stage has an unexplained hour gap. The floor map has no StarCraft booth, so if something is announced it is probably not playable there.

Blizzard has not commented. Nexon has not commented.

NVIDIA DLSS 5 ships Friday, RTX 50 only (7 comments)
Posted by Demiurge @ 14:12 UTC, 2 September 2026 - iMsg
NVIDIA has a date for DLSS 5. It goes live 3 September at 21:00 PT in NBA 2K27, on RTX 50-series cards, laptops, and GeForce NOW. Nothing older. NVIDIA says it needs Blackwell's fifth-generation Tensor cores.

Older DLSS fills in pixels and extra frames. This one paints lighting and materials the engine never drew: skin, hair, contact shadows, light through ears. Faces in the March GTC demos came out looking like a different person. Resident Evil Requiem's Grace Ashcroft got memed as yassified. People called it AI slop. A few Capcom and Ubisoft staff said they found out their games were in NVIDIA's reel when everyone else did. Jensen Huang told Tom's Hardware the critics were "completely wrong."

Since then NVIDIA has added sliders, three models, and masks so developers can leave faces alone. The launch game is NBA 2K27.
With DLSS 5, players will see how light naturally passes through player ears, the natural lighting of skin, and how light catches hair.

NVIDIA's charts have an RTX 5090 at 370fps in 4K Ultra with ray tracing, which includes the rest of the DLSS stack and a lot of generated frames. The neural pass itself is supposedly a 50-60% hit. In March this ran on two 5090s; now it runs on one.

How much better would this make Quake. We may never know.

I pressed the 2003 option, think that's around my first visits. But this poll doesn't really specify how regularly it should be.

I really only visited a few times from 2003 until I actually signed up in 2004, can't remember I was around the site that much then either. Wasn't until the end of 2007 I actually started reading the comments (earlier only bothered with headlines and some of the more interesting news posts), and soon got stuck with doing some trolling posting.

(For reference, Q4 at launch and till ?1.3? point release resulted in 999 ping-o-death if you had less than 128k upload bandwith) Ahhh the amount of players that Q4 instantly lost at launch multiplayer-wise thanks to such idiotic limitation.

2006, or around the start of the big Quake 4 tournaments, I loved the epic toxic cooller matches; watching cooller dominate at first, then toxic slowly getting closer (dreamhack iirc), and then toxic's complete domination of the game thereafter, or until av3k arrives at least :) I wish I was here for all the big quake 3 tournaments from 01 to 03 though :(

He was further away at Dreamhack.

Cooller totally schooled him at that event, you could tell he was in good shape because on the Galang game he dominated Toxic with his rail.

Vampire things are so cliche'd. They're all the same... biting of necks and evil and blah blah blah, it never fucking ends. Why aren't there vampires who wear pocket protectors? What about like vampire artists? Cliche'd and unoriginal, that's the world of vampires.
<< Comment #101 @ 05:18 UTC, 7 September 2009 >>
I understand, we shouldn't be parasites no matter how tempting, but why the obsession with metaphors? Haven't metaphors become overused? Maybe people would get the message better if it was delivered straight-forwardly?

I don't remember when I started visiting. It was around when cached.net started dying.
<< Comment #102 @ 06:59 UTC, 7 September 2009 >>
No, see, Republicans are pathetic cowards. The reason they are so imperialistic and aggressive (invasive), is because they have no defense. Like babies, all they can do is suck blood. That is why they practice preemptive and endless 'war'. If you can defend or counter-attack, they crumble like sand-castles. If they regain federal power, the world can be certain, there will be more holocausts.
<< Comment #103 @ 07:36 UTC, 7 September 2009 >>
They are aggressive because they are afraid. They are afraid because they have no defense. Whether the threat is real or imagined, they attack, because of fear.

As you can see, in Iraq, over 1 million have been recklessly killed (a.k.a., it is a holocaust). How many died in Vietnam?
<< Comment #104 @ 07:57 UTC, 7 September 2009 >>
Republicans go around the world recklessly killing millions of innocents, which, incidentally, costs trillions of dollars. They think the only way to eliminate the 'threat' is by killing it. They are completely incapable of understanding the meaning of defense, as in, to eliminate injury. Because they are such pathetic cowards, they commit genocide to destroy a threat which does not exist. Their actions are driven by paranoia, and therefore, a complete lack of defense. If you cannot be injured, what reason is there to fear?

As a parasitic species, we have reached some degree of equilibrium among ourselves. This does not expand beyond the species. Termites eat our houses; we destroy entire forests.

Unless your defenses can be penetrated - can be invaded - you have no reason to attack or fear.
<< Comment #109 @ 11:28 UTC, 7 September 2009 >>
I understand the potential parasitic advantage of aggressiveness, but that is not a reason. If you have everything you want and need, within your own sphere, you have no reason to invade others. It is only through weak defense one strives to invade.
<< Comment #110 @ 12:07 UTC, 7 September 2009 >>
By invading and occupying this thread, I display to you the Republican method of invading and occupying nations. My version is far more educational, and civil, but still against the liberty of the invaded. Either, by choice, I do not invade, or by force, I do not invade. To achieve human equilibrium, we must eliminate forced invasion.
<< Comment #111 @ 06:11 UTC, 8 September 2009 >>
No no no no no... a landlocked desert country could absolutely bypass our defensive nuclear arsenal, our Navy (which includes an air-force), and our long-range missile-defenses. That's why we invaded Iraq.
