we've been able to see it once from my house i believe, i was only young and cant remember it. parents said it was amazing though, stretched right across the valley

Chasing the aurora is difficult, since the phenomenon seems to have a mind of its own, hiding from observers who wait for weeks, only to reveal itself in a spectacular display the day after they leave.

Does this mean that spotting it is very rare? have any of you seen one? Man, there is nothing that can beat the grandeur of natural phenomena.

Auroras are caused by solar storms, so a search for their frequency should answer your question.

I live in the north of norway, northern lights is very common in the winter. See 'em many times a week. If there are no clouds that is :P

The northern lights are common in Norway, especially in the fall/early winter. The most incredible ones are way up north in Norway, around where primax lives. They can stretch all over the sky, in all directions, while being only to the north in southern Norway.

Indeed a very nice picture. Im suspecting that you might have a very starry night in pakistan, because of the hot climate (no/fewer skies). Dunno if it's the case though, but if it is you are certainly welcome to take some pictures of it. Would love to have a pic with the milky way on it =)

well if were all sharing crazy pics... myself, gf and a couple of friends had a bbq on a nearby common last weekend, got a few nice pics of the sunset etc. afterwards was a clear night, stayed up there looking at the stars, even saw a few shooting ones. very very lurvely.





sadly my camera battery died shortly after that photo so i couldnt get the whole thing :( never mind.

The area is one of the most beautiful around.. Its called the Naran valley.. Located in the hamalya range its quite breathtaking .. Its quite high .. somewhere around 3000 meters + ..

Picture one is when you cross mansehra (this is the place where the most extreemists have been recruited btw) strange to see such a beautiful place having such morons around..

This picture is while on the way to Naran Valley.. the light was coming from behind the mountain slanting a bit and gave a spectacular view of the green.. The roads and the area is only open for about 4 months, otherwise thier are heavy snows.. (yes its the hamaliyas')

Lake Saiful Muluk has a touch of the unreal about it, nestling 3,200 metres high in the shadow of the Malika Parbat (Queen of the mountains) 5,291 metres high. Malka Parbat is the mountain on the left.. and in the front the small dots (atleast some of em) are people.. so u can imagine the lake is quite huge :)

it all depends on where you are and who your with :) but yes, generally himalayan mountains are of course more impressive.

i haven't seen them even though they run through my country as well :( they're very far away from the place i stay.

scotland looks very serene and breathtaking imo.

The Himalayas are indeed fantastic. Went there two years ago, to Nepal to be exact. There's an odd feeling when the guide's saying: "And now you can see the top of Mount Everest". You look at the sky where he's pointing, there's nothing there, only clouds. Then you look a bit more up and it just sticks out like a thousand metres above the clouds. It all seems a bit surreal - usually clouds are above the top of the mountain, not the other way around.

yeah the top of mount everest is above the clouds which is why climbing it is so tricky i guess apart from the height of course. imagine walking through hundreds of metres of thick clouds where visibility is almost 0.

heh... they generally stay at base camp if heavy cloud sets in :)

Well, not really before a storm but the sea itself was pretty 'aggressive' some days before this picture was taken. Big nasty waves and you couldn't really go out for a swim because the currents were nasty too.

i need to get myself a digital camera, i live in derbyshire (in the peak district) and theres some nice views around here.

Yeah, certainly is. I still remember when we picked you up it was dark as f*ck so we couldn't see shit but then when we dropped you off it was midday or summat and the scenery was just gorgeous.

heh i cycled to Ladybower reservoir yesterday morning at about 7am, the sun was up air was clear and the reservoir was still. it was like a sheet of ice mirror on the water - so clear and still. I had to stop and get off my bike and look with awe. it reflected the whole background scenery so perfectly. the peaks are really quite beautiful at this time of the year. I have to day i didn't find them as stunning during the winter, though. :)

i bet ati's next video card will have better reflection effects than that =) lol jK :D

Yesterday Visited the largest Salt mine in the world namely 'Kehwra'. The whole 400 Km mountain range is of salt mountains.. Once it was all sea.
The mine is being used since before the days of the buddhist first came around this area, somewhere roughly around 5 thousand or so years.. They say 7 levels have been utilized and there still are 11 more levels to mine .. pretty amazing tbh..
Since i never been to a mine before it was quite an experiance.. there are lakes within the mine which were spooky.. you cant really take photographs of the lakes as its quite dark inside.. (even with the lights) , the ventilation and the air was excellent though..

anyway here are some of the pictures i took ..

Kitaas

On our way back though we reached this point called Kitas, Supposedly this was the place where the Hindu God .. Shiva cried alot on the death of her wife and according to hindu mythology two springs were created one at this place the other in Ajmair India.. The place is more then 5000 Years old and in complete ruins.. its really sad how badly it has been kept..



The water

The water from the spring is of emerald color completely blows you out of your mind.. its too beautiful to be captured with the camera, you have to see it with your own eyes to believe how good it looks

The last picture is of the main temple of shiva.. there were a couple of other temples around the place as well this seemed to be the larger one.. The rest were partially destroyed by the british in thier rule and some destroyed by the local residents due to utter neglect..

O wow! And to think I have been putting off my trip to Khewra to avoid meeting cousins. :) Amazing pics.

heh it is largely, this is the mountainous region called Snowdonia, its only small though. But in the winter the whole place is transformed if you get clear days like we were lucky to have, its rarely that perfect :) i find it funny that my fav group of photos are in the smallest mountains ive been to.

well depends on the budget and the amount of manual control you'd like to have when taking pictures :)

Nikon coolpix 4300 is by far the best option in the 4 mega pixel market.. along with the canon proshot (?) 80 ( i think htats the name)

in 5 mega pixel i have tested the nikon 5700 at work.. and wasnt really impressed with it .. plus its expensive.. and people mostly dont reccomend sony cybershot 717 even though it has the best lense..

but in the digital SLR (expensive stuff) Canon E300 D (digital rebel in USA) and Nikon D70 are by far the best..

btw check out www.dpreview.com for the best indepth reviews..

i bought myself a Olympus 300 mju.. Works fine if you compare quality to price.

Ah, misunderstood you. That path is of course not natural. It was carved out of the stone around 1900. Quite funny to walk along and search for year numbers. Sometimes they managed to advance 20 or 30m within a year, sometimes it's just 30cm :)
