Indeed Vaughan is a great guitar player.

I just bought a dvd of him live, cant remember where atm. There is an improvisation on that dvd during which he does something REALLY wierd and psychodelic, quite unexpected from him. He isnt not even playing during the song much and even steping on the guitar at the end. But the whole thing sounds as impressive as anything ive heard yet. Im quite happy about the purchase =)

by a band called Shakti in "5 in the morning, 6 in the afternoon" , the double solo by John Mc Laughlin and U. Shrinivas is technically and musically one of the best i've ever heard. You all should give it a try.

Hendrix`s solo on All Along The Watchtower has been consistantly voted the best, most complete solo of all time afaik, with its combination of scratchy/slide/wah wah all rolled into one phat beast of a lick (ooh err missus).

My personal fave solo is Dava Navarros one on Three Days by Janes Addiction...its hard to pinpoint where it starts and finishes, so basically its about 5 mins long towards the end :d

And although i despise heavy metal, Steve Vai`s gtr stuff on Album by Public Image (John Lydon plus 3 session musicians basically) is fockin awesome, really gotta be heard to be believed. Rise was off that album if ppl need reminding =]
