The camera was initially exposed to work in a dark setting environment, when the 'curtains' were pulled the sensor had a shitload more photons to play with (instantly), meaning the settings were out of date and because the transition time was so sudden, the camera was unable to set the correct iso, aperture, shutter speed in time (assuming it was a decent camera), so that blow out to normality is the time it took the camera to react.

Sure but rewind it a few seconds. it goes from space view to that metal room in 1 frame and then it opened the "curtains" and goes back to space view.

Not exactly sure which part, but given shutter speed was one of the 3 things I mentioned, if it was a factor being controlled automatically it would have been on a low setting inside " behind the curtain", the impacts of that are.

It would cause motion blur on reasonably noticeable moving subjects (not a problem as the scene was mostly static)

It would let a lot more light into the sensor (definitely something that would have made sense)

When the light came in, as I said iso, shutter speed, aperture would have gone crazy. Shutter speed would have gone to the complete opposite side of its current spectrum, that can impact on how the video looks.


Those things can also affect the codec and frame rate too. Read up on I-P-B frames.

Just saying, when going from dark to light in a split second in space, from a technical pov, it does not surprise me there are some oddities.

These inventions have been a great benefactor for mankind ever since their first day and was merely a bi-product of our striving towards reaching the Moon. To begin with, the only benefit will surely be to further our scientific understanding. However this brings enormous technological challenges, which we in the past have benefited from in other ways, as I showed via the link. The long term goal is to take the initial and necessary baby steps towards colonizing other planets. That I also do not see as anything that is realistic to achieve on a significant scale within maybe a decade. Until then it is just gonna be a oasis for scientific discovery.

The benefits would be to not have humanity being wiped by a global extinction event from a super volcano, a meteor etc. It would probably be more efficient to combat those by research dedicated to those specific threats in them selves, but I do not see that as a reason for not going elsewhere in the universe while we can.

Regardless of NASA's inventions which may have directly and indirectly spun off further inventions in technology for us humans, I mean that's great. We got cool new shit to play with, now throwing further development in to the mix via Space X, Yes we will probably see 100x the amount of advances in technology in the coming years but to quantify what all of this would do for us as a species in many years, there's no common ground.

I don't see it ever being viable to go inhabit another planet, unless space travel advances enough for us to find and locate a planet like Earth because let's be honest. We can give humans 10's of trillions of years to come up with technology that'll give us that and it'll never happen due to the limiting factors of what we've currently got to work with.

We'll need to discover and create new elements to work with through fusion etc --Which would hopefully allow us to come up with new materials to further our technological building.

We'll probably end up having to find different raw materials to work with which might be laying dormant in parts of the earths crust that we haven't even been able to reach yet.

Colonization of other planets aren't in our reach any time soon and certainly not outside our solar system, since reaching Alpha Centauri with current tech takes around 70.000 years. The first steps has to be taken at some point though, and since space travel so far has brought so much technical innovation as biproduct, I don't see any particularly good reasons why not to start the endeavour now. It will surely benefit us indirectly in so many other ways, and it is actually with a very small price tag, if we compare budget with other sectors. The price to pay if we don't could easily be much more steep.

Thats not going to work, since you cant enforce it in Africa or Middle East. Most of these countries lack institutional quality to get anything done. You could however reduce fertility rates with chemicals, distributed by food and water, or through the air. It should be possible to reach target population within 2 or 3 generations.
