Unless you mean isolated stuff like Weird whining about the netcode, all "whine" has generally been directed at id software's incompetency or bethesda's (lack of) marketing decisions. And even after all the shit they did or didn't do, QL is still an amazing game <3

First in a long time I've heard anything good about quake live.

I guess the current game to be pissing on is Quake Champions.

Most of the things that were hated in early QL are fixed now. So why shouldn't people start liking it?

-you need steam to play it instead of it being its own game

It was free for a LONG time and you had ways to freely move onto Steam. But in the end I guess 10 EUR is not the end of the world for a game which you put thousands of hours in it, now is it?

The first obvious situation you realize this is when you arrive to a stair and you are trying to move up without changing your pace. tl;dr: QL has improved physics, more effective cvars (better customizability), sligthly better netcode (yes), tons of stats, 3rd party glicko, integrated voicecom, 125fps+, new maps. Some subtle geometry changes on some old maps (for example dm6 or dm17) are annoying compared to how they were, but that's it.

Liked the standalone stats better, but there's still a shitton of info about your profile.

There's no hmg in proper TDM, CTF or duel so who cares?

People complain even if they are winning the lottery. The netcode is still 56x better than QC's. With a 8,5 EUR / month connection, I have sub-50 ping for 80% of Europe. Russia is still a playable 55-60.

Nobody forces you to play CA (which is not even Quake btw). But if you HAVE to be this way, then be straight and up to date, take QC and be true like LOL"DUEL", LOL"TDM", LOLID.

Again I agree with you, but some people here would still kill you for saying that QL > Q3 or QL > Q3 CPMA.

That's only because of QLstats.net. The game itself doesn't provide you any of that.

If you play public games it's pretty much only CA and FFA available. Not everyone is up for queuing on IRC for 20+ minutes to find a decent game. We're not in the early 2000's anymore. Also while I agree that QC TDM could be improved (and most likely will), I actually do think QC Duel brings something new and interesting.

Again agreed, there's always someone complaining about how strong or weak it is.

There're like 2 real problems with QL (besides not having a bigger playerbase);

1) No true positional audio.
2) 250 fps sound bug (biggest issue, hands down).

Well, nomip rockets and plasma + r_subdivisons 80 would be nice.

So ye, basically the sound subsystem has its problems - but QC is WAY-WAY worse (not even comparable) in that regard so it's not really a valid complain if you put both games side by side after all.

QL was released in 2010 (7 years ago) and had way more issues than it has now obviously as a lot of them got fixed through time. You're comparing that with a game that's been in beta for 4 months.

So no, you cannot put both games side by side yet.

What you should also look at is QL in 2010 compared to QL now, and QC in April compared to QC now. The issue fixing and game improving is almost even more noticeable in QC in a 4 months period than in QL in 7 years.

Of course you're going to say that QC was horrible when it came out in closed beta and there were many more issues to fix than when QL came out, that's true, but QL was a revamp of Q3 not a brand new game.

QL was first available in 2008 and even the beta was miles better than this QC patchwork of everything. Hell, even Q3Test v1.08 (just checked it out again recently) back in '99 >>> QC.

About the issue fixing: it still needs a NASA mainframe, mouse input = lul, sound is laughable, so as the piss-poor visibility and the total lack of customizability.
The "duel" gametype is buffoonery for anybody who even remotely likes real duel. On top of that, it's even booooooring, both as a player (played a few dozens), both as a spectator. Watched a few (pro) VODs and I was literally yawning all over the place and it's not an exaggeration.
Continuing with TDM, it's just a random team FFA on whatever maps; any half-decent TDMer has a rough time deciding if he should titter or cry.


They can do anything with QC, but the game will always be a joke (as a Quake, that is - other aspects don't matter, previous Qukes will always be the comparing points), unless they do a complete retake on the whole pile of the random code. Including the different stats, stack boundaries and speedcaps. And the scaling and responsivity of the engine itself.

is the 250fps sound bug (skipping some sound playback?) still around? Recently, I haven't noticed it whatsoever...
