I was thinking about making a new movie but it looks like Adobe have discontinued their "download our old CS2 software for free" business, aaaand I forgot to save the installer.

Which brings me to ESR, the fountain of knowledge, to ask what free alternative video editing software you guys can recommend.

Well I don't know if it will fit all your needs, but as far as were talking about free video editors, OpenShot is the best I've come across

What exactly do you have in mind when you say free? Free as in, not in any way shape or form having an impact on your current capital or free as in Obtained using a potentially but not necessarily illegal method?

If you're looking for the latter, I recommend Sony Vegas - quite simple to use but still capable of some pretty decent editing.

Adobe After Effects with Lynda after effects tutorials (both obtained using the same method)

Before you know it you'll be able to pull of the "frez time effect"

Pinnacle studio is decent, cheap and simple to learn for those with modest needs.

Going right off Adobe lately after they seem unable to use all of my computer cores for rendering via media encoder which sucks cos I only shoot in raw video now so need the speed.

So PLAN B, might end up trolling you but whatever.

I tried Lightworks recently, but it was kinda weird. I got mad as fuck when I tried to fast forward fragment of the movie. It was disaster. I checked a few youtube tutorials and the only way to do it was to manually syncing frames on both ends which can take a few minutes. Especially that selection and other operations done on mouse are somehow unpredictable. You can try to do something on the clip and get view moved to completely different fragment. I was really disappointed on this software because it looks solid on first contact.

Finally I gave up and installed Sony Vegas. Doing the same thing there was like: click, S, click, S, shorten middle fragment, move 3rd clip left, done. Fucking 30 seconds!

Maybe if you just need to merge a few clips into one Lightworks is enough, but any advanced editing will drive you mad.
