Refinery needs to get its spawn system reworked and better items on the mega side. The map is a lot of fun to strafe around on, but it plays quite poorly when two players are above average skill :(

No Agent? Always sad to see a top 5 dropping out. But especially him since he adds another dynamic to Quake with his item timing skills.

I was hoping for an aim powerhouse to play in either Tox or Strenx, I guess p0ni will have to do.

It's kinda annoying that old maps are still being put into cups again and again to ONLY be played there, while new maps dont ever stand a 2nd chance to gain popularity. Quakecon including Cure and Sinister into it's pool was a nice move which really gained them some popularity and showed that they arent that bad. Now they are being played as much as ztn/t7. And at this point I cant rly say that other new maps like mcsarges or delirium are any worse than them cause they were never played(and the one-map-cup series are not enough for that). Also new maps help new players a LOT since they start from scratch same as people who play the game for ages. And including dismemberment which has been in many pools for 15 years but never got popular is just a dumb move. Basically a free win for old players over new talents. Zzz

it really needs to get killed, map has been over played and is not very entertaining to watch when someone has 100 percent lock down, it's only fun when you hit a few lucky rockets and get control again.

Bring back t4.

imho most creative map in terms of comebacks because of the combinations you can do, no it's not a rail heavy map, inb4 zero4 rocket / sg domination.

I dont agree. Ok i am a dm13 fanboy but I honestly think it's one of these maps where getting back control is more than doable, even versus very strong players. And i've always liked speccing players on the map too. It's both the most fun and most interesting map to play as well imo.

to be honest, often GS1 gives some amazing matches, sometimes the underdogs cause big upsets and its awesome to watch. But at the same time plenty of decent players in GS1 to watch out for as well: garpy, kronic, madball, k1llsen, sev3n, fazz, spartie... these guys can beat GS2 players without much problem.

the speed and fluidity of wichtl's chase around 1:25 prior to overtime, while not surprising given wichtl's skillset, was really impressive to watch. i can just imagine spartie thinking "holy shit, nobody EVER chases this quickly and there's literally nothing i can do to move faster than wichtl right now" :P

There's something about Sev3n's movements... it's astonishing how fluid some of his double jumps / rocket jupms are. I haven't been watching Quake for some time now so it might just be me who is now unused to these moves... but against Madball it was beautiful.

I hope k1llsen will take a bit of practicing before going into this. His last games were tactically awesome but his aim stability was pretty off in particular with shaft. Obviously this isn't going to make do vs pavel and later on evil or cypher.

Pings were 50ms/38ms on NOR in cooller's favor. Garpy refused to continue there after losing 1st map asking for 'official' server location which are DE/SWE/RUS calling over 50ms ping 'unplayable'. And cooller refused to play on DE where it was 55/38 in garpy's favor cause ping difference is bigger.

well it's just the 125fps rules are weird(the primary server list is just stupid) and overall there're many questionable situations lately that many people dont even notice(for example both ash and agent finished 2nd in their groups and Nico put them versus each other somewhy)

yep, sparks got fucked over way worse by a previous 125fps series (he was forced to play a russian on a russian server where he got 135 ping, which isn't even remotely playable) and nobody cared. people are just crying now because it's cooller, and to be perfectly honest they should get over it. The rules are bullshit and I don't blame cooller for forfeiting, but I don't see why people think it's in any way garpy's fault.

I think cooller's point is why should he be forced to play 55 vs 38 when garpy agreed to play 50 vs 38 and then refused after losing one map.

Garpy didn't refuse anything, he requested to go to DE server as he was entitled to, and admin agreed. I haven't seen him blackmailing Nico that he'd quit if he didn't have it his way - unlike the other player.

Also cooller remembered the case when agent playing vs cypher was kicking him from server while cooller was streaming with cooke. Back then Nico made an excuse that:

The 125fps administration reserves the right to make a decision based on common sense in some situations, even if the decision contradicts certain rules.

So now cooller asked whether nico thinks it's common sense to play with higher or lower ping difference and seems like nico thinks its higher ping difference

To be honest garpy is always mr nice and alwayz get fuked over with servers... he tried a norway server even though he could of forced a DE server in the first place... he wasnt happy with the norway server so i dont blame him... he tried it he gave the map to cooller it aint like hes asking for the game to be replayed.

But then for cooller to throw his toys out the pram is just out of order, just because of his big ego and he thinks hes untouchable in the quake scene... then to threaten not playing in another 125fps makes me laugh. Just shows how much he thinks hes above everyone else, a competition without cooller is not possible... utter jokes.

no matter if the ping difference was better in the norway server garpy wasnt happy... but he didnt have to play there in the first place so fair play to him...

Wish him all the luck in the next game, i dont care if evil stomps him i still got more respect for him than ever for cooller.

yes, that was so nice from him to ask to change the server right after losing the 1st game and saying "you russians used to it" (high ping). if you want to whine about ping and server - do it before the game starts, not after you lost the map. but thanks to Nico who is always so pleasant to Europeans, that he can even change his own rules in favour of them.

My 2c.

First the official rules about a DE server over NOR are in the rules and have been in the rules for close on 2 years now. So it shouldn't be a surprise to either player. As far as Garpy goes he was entitled to chose a DE server and was within his rights in the 125fps league (granted some might argue that he played the first map with a ping disadvantage, but I guess you could argue that he decided to play despite being at a disadvantage to see "how it would go"... evidently it didnt go well and so he opted to change server).

Now the real issue here is cooller quitting, I think he had the choice to remain in the server despite him this time being at a disadvantage but instead he let his ego get the better of him and just decided to quit. That was his choice, no one forced him to do it and it's not like Nico did anything suspicious or untoward, he merely enforced the rules.

To be honest cooller pretty much had the series won anyway, he already had a forfeit for the first map which was a def win, and next map was dm13, which I am pretty sure he can beat most players on even with a 1million ping disadvantage. Then all he had to do was win 1 more map... which shouldn't have been to hard for him? He could have been the bigger person and just said "fuck it ill play and win even with a slight disadvantage".

Don't get me wrong, I am the biggest cooller fan, but I think he just let his ego get in the way, he didn't have to quit the league.

Sometimes the rules are in your favour, sometime they are not, it's part of the game, you can't have it your way all the time.

(Also ideally, if they wanted to split hairs about it, they could have just played each map on each others respective servers, garpy plays his map picks on DE and cooller plays his on NOR, then they cointoss for a tiebreaker?)

Oh well, I hope he is back next season.

please don't take it that close to the heart, that wasn't cooke's intention to humiliate an 'entire nation', that was his reaction at garpy saying 'u russians used to it' (meaning playing with high pings) which was sort of ridiculous considering most russians play usually (except ash maybe and pavel some time ago) with the lowest pings among all europeans. 102 are cool guys. and nico as i see it always tries to compensate for the rather hurting common european idea about bad russians. and you are right, garpy doesn't deserve to be judged here because he was apparently nervous about playing vs cooller and was anxious to show his best.
and yes, cooller is ego-maniac and other russian quakers very often suffer from his blunt arrogance.

I didn't say he was trying to humiliate, just to generalise. I think your statement about ping is wrong too, russians only get low ping on russian servers and in leagues most games will take place on DE or SWE if there's a western european and a russian playing against each other, and in such cases the pings are usually fair.

Also I've never said anything to the effect of "russians are bad", just specifically in this instance cooke made comments that can only be interpreted as inflammatory, and cooller behaved like a child. but of course, people come here and blame garpy because cooller is cooller and can do whatever he likes.

I did overreact in my last post (was very tired when I wrote it), so sorry for that - I just feel like garpy is the victim in all of this, and not cooller.

Step 2 doesn't mention PSL servers at all. You first create the definition of what PSL servers are and then don't mention them until the step 3. In the situation in question where both players were below 65 there was no need to go to step 3.

If you concede that the rules are in fact incorrect then own up to the fact that Cooller had the most honest interpretation of what is actually written in the rules right now.

I believe you made the wrong call and possibly permanently discouraged the legend of quake from playing in the only regular tournament we have.

Please attempt to make the players finish the match on the server selected by the rules that are actually written on the "cup page" and worry about changing them in the next season.

As mentioned above, according to the rules the PSL servers don't come in to the decision until step 3. In this garpy/cooller case it only needed up to step 2 to decide NOR was the fairest server. So cooller seems justified. (unless steps 1 and 2 you are only supposed to consider PSL servers but it does not state that?)

From posted logs it seems that the main complaint was not changing servers, but a selective approach to following rules by Nico. He remembered situation with kicking him from the server by agent when he was streaming.
I think there is no any reason to blame garpy, it was within the rules after all. Maybe not so beautiful act, but who cares.

all this situation is stupid. But its even more stupid to stick blindly to the rules instead of doing the logical and best thing. I guess its a cultural difference.

I remember Cooller rocking FaceIt cups with like 90-100 ping. He destroyed k1llsen with this 50-ish ping just two days ago or so with 1300 plasma damage.

There was no option good for everyone. But it was Cooller who quit as I see (didn't watch stream). A bit agentish behaviour.

Btw cooke said that the day before, when ash played vs agent, the latter asked Nico why in playoffs sometimes 2nd plays vs 2nd and 3rd vs 3rd, when according to the rules 2nd plays vs 3rd. Nico answered that "rules can be changed depending on situation". But in yesterday disputes he already says that "rules are rules" and they have to play on DE.

they should have played the server with less ping difference. who gives a fuck if the brit is used to like 25 ping. if the pings cant be even, then just play the server where they are the closest. being a spoiled cunt and pulling the "i don't like 50 ping" is borderline retarded. anyway, have fun vs evil, the tournament is over for the dude anyway.

A guy from Siberia with ping 100 @ Moscow and 130 @ DE plays the league, and a guy from let's say France with ping 120 @ Moscow and 60 @ DE. Obviously the first is used playing with 100 ping, and the second 60. But according to your reasoning they should play on Moscow server where it's only 20 difference (100 vs 120). Doesn't sound right at all, but I wouldn't think you spent much time thinking out what you are saying. :)

what i am saying is that ditching 51:37 ping server for DE server where your opponent has 65 and you are in 30's is retarded. and it is.

no, you aren't gonna play 190 vs 195, but whoever claims that 40+ ping is unplayable is a fucking joke. 14 ping difference is 14 ping difference, stop acting as if it's a big deal. 30 ping difference is noticable. how exactly is 30 difference more fair than 14? 14 cannot have that much of an influence in the outcome of the game, especially in the 37 vs 51 margin. if you cannot play the game unless you are on lan ping, then get the fuck out and stop ruining the tournament. cypher played tournaments with packetlosses and mid 70's, mid 80's, never cried about it. this sexy brit comes out of nowhere and forces an average WORSE server for what? rockets feeling bad on 40+? should we call the fucking care police?

yeah, the rule is on his side, because the rule is bullshit.

Ofc he did that, because of the bullshit situation. Cooller will 100% win bo5 vs garpy on 55 ping. As for garpy - lol, I played for years on 50-55ping with really good hitscan and overall gamefeel. Crybaby for real.
As for the admins: they made a decision that is within their power so I respect that tho I don't agree with it. Peace

Cooller:

I am not a national artist and I tired to make concessions every time (there were a few examples about killsen and agent). Fair play - most important for me. The show and spectators - secondary. You can change the rules and you should been change the rules immediately, because I know what is fair, and you don't.
Garpy is stupid goof because he want to take unfair advantage using your idiotic rules. And you approved it. Your disrespect is unacceptable. He can't point me on rules :'(

He can as everyone else. Rules is rules. I am admin and I think there was nothing criminal. Yes, your server was more fair, but +5-10 for ping difference is not enough for breaking the rules right here, right now. But I promise, we will try to fix the rules after this league. And ragequit is not required for this. :/

Garpy Cooller arranged that the should play a Norwegian server. So, they had to play on that server till the end. Garpy has no any right to change the server in the MIDDLE of the match as they had come to an agreement to play a Norwegian server before. Nico has to fix the rules.

Next time cooller should read the rules, and then choose weather or not to play in the league. He can't rely on Nico to bend the rules at the last week of the tournament, he should accept the decision from the admin(s).

And it doesn't help cooller's cause when he start calling garpy names just because he's referring to the rules.

It's like the k1llsen incident all over again. Blaming the wrong person, when he's the one that doesn't follow the rules.

have to say bad admining by nico. not really a fan of cooller, but nico should've done what's fair and that's telling garpy to fuck off and play out the rest of the games on server he AGREED TO PLAY ON.

let's be real here, garpy is a player who couldn't beat cooller even if the games were played on UK servers. if he agreed on non-official location then it's his own fault and should keep his mouth shut. he could've just said no when cooller approached him for different servers and be over with it, instead of being a massive poney after he lost.

its really a shame evil seems to have won the mental battle vs cypher, and its been a while now. Because although evil is very impressive (really, really impressive, don't get me wrong), a relaxed and focused cypher is better (god-mode activated). Sometimes when he finally plays a bit more freely its jaw dropping.

Cypher should get some mental coaching by Cooller ahah xD cause he should win (not stomping, but winning)
