these 3 minute jumps from pov to pov and update each character's storyline with the highlight happenings from the book is just baaaaaaad, not necessarily because you skip a lot of stuff from the books but its absolutely horrendous to follow. completely overrated show

aye, I personally got disencouraged halfway throughout season 2 (well, like episode 3 :D) and stopped watching the show completely as there were discrepancies with both casting and airtime (some of the snappiest early-on dialogues between Tyrion and Joffrey were not included for example, although it was a defining moment in the books, showing the tip in the balance of power), so I just stopped watching. Nonetheless, it's a great show and level of detail is really good, but transferring to film would not be possible unless they added like 3x as much episodes per season which I doubt would be profitable or popular.

I think TV will always have a problem with big and long storylines, and multiple 'main' characters. the fact that they are trying (and doing a decent job) should be commended imo.

yeah exactly, the story is so long and complex that a tv show with limited resources will simply never reach the level of the book but by trying to do so will also make it fall short as a tv series.

1st season = 1st book, almost exactly
2nd season = 2nd book, starts to diverge a bit
3rd season = 3rd book, lots of new stuff, lots of changes from the book, missing characters, etc.
4th season = 4th and 5th books, mixture of books, lots of changes, etc.

I'm not going to read the replies in this thread because I'm too scared of getting spoiled, but teamliquid.net has a great thread in which there is absolutely no book talk allowed (otherwise you get banned). Sometimes spoilers do come through but people are very quick to report the posts and they get deleted almost immediately (the admins are really active). Some book readers sometimes do post semi-spoilers in the form of "predictions", but so far I've never felt spoiled (and I had no idea of what this episode was going to contain even though I actively read that thread).

I really feel bad for the people who rather watch this through the tv series instead of the books. The books are much better eventhough I must say I was happy about how the series (only watched the few first episodes) followed the books so precisely.

Stop watching this though and get the books, because they're better. If you think the TV series is nice, you can't imagine what you're missing.

Btw the last episode I've read was about the red wedding part. Don't worry, the worst hasn't happend yet. Muhahaha

They're better sure, but the TV series does a good job considering you can't hear the POV character's thoughts and feelings.

The internal monologue of characters when shit goes down is what makes the books so amazing compared to the TV series for me. Doesn't mean the TV series isn't as good. Just they didn't want to use some Max Payne style voice-over (which would blow monkey cock)

And the same could be said in reverse, the show gave the books colour, and life in a way that Martin's writing doesn't always encompass.

Heard the quality of the shows has increased over the seasons too, so there's that I guess. But I'd rather watch series that I haven't seen yet rather than watch GoT cause really that only feels like a waste of time xD.

red wedding was pretty shocking when i've read it for the first time ~2002. watching the series while knowing what's gonna happen is kinda underwhelming. anyway the blood spraying resident evil style was a bit too much imho

yes, it just comes on so suddenly. all of a sudden it talks about a sword popping up through someones chest iirc...

the part of the book that had the biggest impact on me was definitely Oberyn vs Gregor. I dont think it will be anywhere near as powerful in the TV series though, because the story of elia and her kids etc is never really mentioned.

that correct, i don't even know how they plan to introduce the sunspear, they pretty much filmed some scenes that never happened in the books, while skipping others, which was to expect cause you can't physically deal with 3k pages in 30 episodes. but so far, it's much better than i expected it to be when they were still revealing the cast. cersei/jamie cast is terrible, but the others are quite good.

i imagine the last episode of the season will be joffreys wedding - season 4 and onwards is where it will be interesting imo, because they simply cant take the approach the books do when it comes to characters and storyline in 4 and 5p1/p2. So we should see season 4 as a jumble of books 4 and 5 imo, with tyrions trial about halfway through, giving them several episodes to introduce Dorne and the Martell backstory etc.

They made him even better in the show imo. Sadly they didn't get too much into Dorne as a whole, but that's going to happen next season.

I've been filling in the back story for my girlfriend about what you would know at this point in the books (such as some details from the tower of joy) and the differences between the series and the book. It is really hard to not spoil anything though. Still was satisfied with moans and groans last night.

The one bad thing was that I kept thinking it was going to happen, so kept telling her that we had to watch tonight because it was going to be a good episode :)

Anyway, there are new characters incoming to get to know and (possibly) watch die :)

I can understand why everyone is "shocked", it's not a typical daytime TV show, or even typical for an HBO show. I have to say I liked the episode, the acting, and how it made sense. It's sort of a cruel, historic, realism that we don't see anywhere but a greek tragedy.

GOT aint that good. I think the only reason everyone hypes about it so much is because it airs in the summer when nothing else is on. All the other main shows run through autumn so they all compete against each other but GOT is by itself now breaking bad has finished.
