I'm not sure what you mean. There's no scaling to be done. There's no native resolution. It's a CRT, not a LCD. Send NxM, it will shoot NxM (provided it's a valid res/frequency combo). What would you want it to scale to?

To be clearer, the screen itself isn't made of a static set of tiny pixels. It's just glass. As for the "mechanic" inside... well read about it and you may understand.

That's the beauty of CRT, no native resolution. Not sure what you mean about screen size, but it will fill the whole screen acting like native resolution on LCD. If you set 640x480 THAT is native resolution, if you set 1024x768, THAT is native resolution. No blur, no nothing, pure image.

Just so no one gets confused the image does get blurry when you are using lower resolutions such as 800x600 and even a little higher if your use to 1080p. There is pretty much zero motion blur though.

Horizontal sync frequency is in kHz and I've never seen a monitor that would do 150.


Some examples of minimum values for 120 Hz in specific resolutions:

100 kHz horiz sync = 1024x768 @ 120 Hz
112 kHz horiz sync = 1152x864 @ 120 Hz
125 kHz horiz sync = 1280x960 @ 120 Hz
140 kHz horiz sync = 1440x1080 @ 120 Hz (never seen such a thing)

Most shit CRTs you can get are up to 85 or so. Around ESR people have iiyamas that do 115 kHz horizonal. My "new" CRT does 130 and I've never seen anything above 137 (hi vitz).


And now some example max frequencies for a mode I'd consider absolute minimum:

115 kHz (popular iiyama 44x series) - 1024x768 @ 138 Hz
130 kHz (like my Sun GDM 5510) - 1024x768 @ 154 Hz
137 kHz (like vitz's Sony GDM F520) - 1024x768 @ 162 Hz


You can also do crazy stuff like 800x600 @ 200 Hz if you have 137 kHz.

Also if you want to have different resolution on desktop and for game and can live with only 100 Hz refresh on the desktop, 115 kHz horizontal is the minimum to get 1440x1080 @ 100 Hz. Don't go below 115 kHz.
