I agree that this map rotation system needs to be remade.

Id remove all of the most commonly played maps (the whole duel tournament mappool, maps like t4, dm6, quarantine ... maybe with the exception of tdm and its maps, as the mod needs to be supported) and made them premium/pro only, as standard membership should be there only for new players and casuals.
To make up for this, mods like domination, freezetag, red rover and a& d should be free, because theyve got the most potential to attract and keep the above mentioned groups of players.

As for your problem, you'll have to suck down there are good months and bad months, if youre not willing to spend on premium / pro.
The membership costs are a few bucks - and Im still hoping fucktards from ID will come up with more possible payment methods, such as sms or tokens (mmo style).

QL doesn't need a better map rotation, it needs a better system than map rotation.

i wonder how the map rotation is worked out. if i was to do it i would pool the maps into a number of different pots.

pot 1 would have the most played/popular maps for each gametype.
pot 2 for old maps no one really cares for.
pot 3 for new maps.

at least that way, when the maps are picked, you would always have a decent selection of good maps, bad maps and new maps.

or maybe it's totally random?

Match data is collected to determine the most popular maps, and the maps are then distributed across 5 rotation sets, over and over, going from columns 1-5, and then back from 5-1. It's a similar formula to how player drafts are conducted in some sports.

The lists then have to pass certain checks for minimum number of maps for each gametype.

the point is to have most shitty maps but 1 or 2 cool maps, so people get the incentive to go prem so they don't have to leave server when a shit map comes up and can vote the good maps instead.

Problem isn't the rotation, problem is that you can't vote the map you wan't, so when that awful map comes up, you can't do anything about it. This leaves the servers empty since no one is willing to tank a game to change map, since everyone love stats.

We, the premium players complain about not getting enough games because of the rotation.

For CTF? Duel and CA premium servers are populated. TDM is pretty much only played on premium as pubs suck.

At least give option to vote for maps, this system is flawed and pushing the players away, leaving us premium with our precious subs waiting for someone to join our game.

That was one of the suggestions I made half a year ago when this stupid system was introduced.
It's just annoying to know that the game HAS potential and people willing to play it but is otherwise restricted in really stupid manner.

I think people often forget that QL is still a business and has to make money to pay devs, upkeep servers, provide a service.

I am glad that Syncerror feels this way, but at the same time I am glad they are making profit. It ultimately means Quake has a future.

I think what they often forget too is that Sync and Sponge aren't sitting in a locked room in the basement at id hq doing whatever the heck they want with qlive. There are people they have to answer to and, to some degree, take orders from.
