Virgin is trash and their advertised speed means nothing with all the restrictions at various times. Sky is hit and miss depending on your area but you can at least pay for a truly unlimited usage option.

we've had no issues with them besides 1 a few weeks ago which was fixed with 1 phone call

obviously virgin is area dependent too..or maybe your router was fucked

i was warping in QL for a while (i never noticed it but others complained). 2 weeks ago my QL went really bad for a few days. called virgin, they said the router was configured shit, tweaked it & players who whined of warp said it had gone.

event during this warp issue we were still downloading high.

we download 10s of gbs daily without issues whenever we want

All this applies to any virgin connection though. They're the only UK ISP this stringent on this stuff.

Ive had Sky 40mb fttc for a while and had no problems what so ever. As long as you're fairly close to a green cabinet you should be fine.
Have a look at http://maps.thinkbroadband.com, put in your postcode and you can see if there's other people on fibre near you and what speeds they are getting.
