Hello. I'm thinking of getting the BenQ xl2411t 120hz monitor and I was wondering if these specs will allow me to play Quakelive with it.

Graphics card can do 120hz, I've checked it.
Looked on the comp and It only has VGA output
In game I play with 800x600 res.
The BenQ monitor has VGA, DVi and Hdmi output but I'm worried wether it will work.

I have a 2009 comp with very basic shit...nothing for high graphics games

well then its not rlly a 2009 comp innit now? iirc DVi started with the geforce 8 series which were released in 06.

Anyways if u are going to play with that res and/if u dont have DVI dont waste money on it.

Monitors great, but it would be stupid to not use it to its full potential..

Hell no. I have no clue what was first mass market card with DVI (probably something from Matrox), but there were GeForce 2 cards with DVI all the way back in 2001.

My old computer from 2009 has a GT220. It's DVI and very capable for quake at HD with post process; 125fps stable. Probably can be had for next to nothing these days, and there are plenty of comparable cards at similar pricepoints.

My advice to you would be to get something like that if you know you won't be playing anything graphically intensive, run the two cards at once and enjoy the awesomeness of two monitors. Doesnt need to be SLI or CrossFire either.

I thought VGA would only allow 60 Hz? You need DVI-D to get the digital signal that can give you 120 Hz.

No, VGA with LCD displays allow 120hz on lower resolutions.

CRTs have analogue signal so you could get 120hz@1080p with VGA, but that would degrade image quality and create more input lag.

@Laskij your setup should run 120hz no problem

Oh alright, so it's still resolution dependant like in the CRT days. I'm looking for a new graphics card that has DVI-D so I can run 120 Hz@1080p myself.

I've got a geforce 550ti and I'm using DVI-D into my aw2310. 1080p@120hz no problem.

Wouldn't recommend the card though. Get something newer if you can.

the tft picture in 800x600 emulation looks horrible. and costs time. you will switch quick to default tft res.
