In QL you can use the same fov regardless of aspect ratio.

You could try to set cg_fov to 100 and tinker with r_aspectratio.

r_aspectRatio [0|1|2|3]

0 = 4:3
1 = 16:9
2 = 16:10
3 = 5:4

Note that you'll need to use one of the supported modes (using r_mode, see this for reference or use the command \modelist to get the supported resolutions). Don't use r_customwidth/height or r_aspectratio won't work. You'll also have to vid_restart everytime you change any one of these cvars.
