HF with video editing

1. CPU load? it can't be worse than Fraps/Dxtory, which work ok btw and are pure software solutions with no hardware encoding behind

2. fuck HDCP.. the PS3 video is decoded, processed and displayed. why the fuck not dump it on my hard drive? why do i have to use Fraps to work around it? this is madness.

3. Premiere is a post-processing editor. i bought this capture card to record simple hardware compresed direct feed videos, not to waste time with resizing videos and recompressing.

besides.. options like global hotkeys (so you don't have to alt tab in that shitty media center every time you want to record) or hide mouse cursor or select additional audio sources from the PC (microfon, sound card etc.) should be really common sense

how the fuck is a dedicated piece of hardware (+additional software) worse at recording than a pure software solution?

4. i use the same DVI to HDMI convertor to plug the PS3 into my monitor. image is crystal clear.

Well, that card, at least what specs say, is compressing MPEG2 and H.264 Format through its software so it might happen its not what you were looking for.

That card seems to offer inputs and rate conversion and several other cool features but what you need its a hardware compressor like the one featured in the "Live Gamer version".

However your cpu load should be lower, or at worst the same, than the one using fraps or xplit but it seems duplicating your gpu output is fucking framerate or your hdd is kinda slow.

HDCP is fucked up i know but.... its what we got. Blame Sony and Intel for dont relying on us on "burning films on dvds and sharing with friends".

I have captured video many times from external sources and never though about capturing only part of the RAW streams (a portion of the image) and my reasons were:

- You will introduce lag on processing image before capturing. Despite that i can understand it could happen that later on capture on part of a stream can achieve a better overall performance rather than the one achieved while capturing full frames.
- I cannot imagine any situation where i would like to capture just a portion of a image since that will make loss of context an info on the image i could use later

On blurry image, in case you are sure you are not introducing capacitive interferences (capacitive coupling) with you conversor on a dvi (that will happen on a analog dvi source or dvi-a) to hdmi conversion, you have a good hardware dvi to hdmi conversor ,your cable is too long, connectors are ok, or any other minor hardware issue you should check your compression set-up; maybe your have wrong set up or weird aspect ration conversion.

Despite what you wrote i assume your ps3 outputs through hdmi so first 2 points on upper paragraph could be dissmissed since you arent hardware converting your stream; then i will go on compression set up.

i managed to get sound through DVI to HDMI (ATI Radeon cards have this function with a bundled adaptor). problem is Windows supports one primary playback device, so either i get sound through the speakers or through the HDMI cable that goes from GPU to capture card.

i fucked around with the windows sound devices settings and you can glitch it out to output sound through both, but it's hard to replicate that every time i want to start recording.

a pain in the ass really! if only that Media Center had a audio source selector.. this is the nail in the coffin for this device, i'll return it for sure now.

Capture cards are usually made for external devices. You can run it from your PC to the card, but it appears you got screwed since you don't have HDMI. tbh you should of known that going in, but if it was an impulse buy then that's okay.

Your PS3 issues seem to be fixable by a google search.

Sometimes you'll need to use a combination of xsplit and the capture card, which can be a good thing (Xsplit has a lot of options)
