there's a discussion about it, taking out a teamplay map for the sake of another ffa/aim-fest is pointless. replace dm20 with it and see how it goes. you can see from the NC that almost every game has dm14 involved in it

k mate i'll take that in mind, i think tornado is like a dm20 with 2 PU's and a better layout, but that's just my opinion.

yeah there are similarities, fast/small etc. but the layout and double pu doesnt make it nearly as aim only as dm20

Not sure where the sudden surge of interest in Tornado has come from, it was played a fair amount last year and certainly didn't do anything to cement itself as a good map.

My framework for a 5-map pool would be this:
1x Aim map.
2x Tactical map.
2x Balanced map.

My example of each map type is:
Hidden Fortress = Aim map.
Grim Dungeons = Tactical map.
Dreadful Place = Balanced map.

We badly need more tactical maps (and good maps in general), Grim Dungeons is the only good tactical map that we have as far as I'm concerned. In my opinion most maps fall under the "balanced" category, and some are of questionable quality.

yeah that doesnt sound bad at all, however if you want to fit tornado in the pool, it certainly cant take a spot of a 'tactical' map.

and like i said in the other thread, i'd argue that aim plays a heavy role in every single map, you shouldnt go out of your way to promote it. i'd even suggest that all the maps should be quite balanced and teamplay/tactic oriented. this would easily broaden the competitive field without dumbing down the game.

aim based teams can still outclass their opponents easily on most maps already, and its basicly skewed to the point where heavy aim merc teams form and disband on a whim, but always taking spots in div1 and usually ending up in playoffs or higher

Well I don't really like the term "aim" map but my only other word for it would have been "fast" map. Yeah all maps test aim to some extent, but I like the idea of at least 1 map in a pool that is all about constant fighting with not a lot of room for backing off and regrouping. So "aim" map is probably not the best label.

Personally I'd not look to add Tornado, I really don't think it managed to prove itself as a good map throughout the last year when it was given a chance.

Dies Irae was played once in some ESL cup that had only new maps, was xt vs someone

we played DI during the esl summer cups, didnt like it at all. just look at the quad area design, if you can hold down your barf, kudos to you.

leviathan was tested for a good period of time during the same time as purgatory and dp were introduced. i cant really put my finger down on it, i dont think its a good map but i dont think its a bad map either. i wouldnt want to play it either though...

2) deep inside / can replace this once a fitting teamplay map gets in i guess
3) grim dungeons

what about realm of steal rats ? nobody like it ? i think it has a nice dynamic, but again just an opinion.

its probably the worst map ever introduced to ql. you wont find many guys who like it, besides a few guys who havent yet learned the new qltdm maps properly and played q3 extensively, or maybe some q3 pros who like to freesurf to victory. it was used for a long long while in all the cups, no one picked it and the only time it was played was as a tiebreaker where it was basicly a safe tiebreaker choice for any q3 based clan. putting it back to the pool would be a huge mistake, as we've slowly started getting rid of most of the old maps. atleast the worst are gone by now.

personally i'd rather play dies irae or leviathan than cpm4, atleast they are new and might turn out decent after lots of playing, where as cpm4 has been proven to be utter shit in ql. leviathan actually plays quite similar to cpm4 as it has no rail, is open and it revolves around rushing ra nonstop, just like cpm4. not quite as onesided as cpm4 though, double pu and mh + the positioning of lg makes it slightly more diverse (i almost said interesting and then realized its not an interesting map at all) than cpm4

CPM4 was good in OSP, sucked in cpma vq3 and sucks in QL. No prizes for guessing why.

imo tornado isnt even quake gameplay style map at all. has so many boxes and narrow coridors that makes this map so slow to play . dunno who find this map so interesting to play that even signed it as oficial at some tdm tournaments. fortunatly it wasnt at dreamhack. still deep inside is much more interesting to play since quakelive lacks proper new tdm maps. if it goes this way , campgrounds should be moved back to the list of maps :)

We hope to merge our data base at some point, when isn't clear atm, but hopefully yes.

HoQ are looking for 1 or 2 mid to high skilled players to play for our CTF team. The current team afaik looks like: Drayan, xVergilx, sexyflex and me as emergency sub =D, we would like 1/2 mid to high skilled player/s (drayan:team captain)

We would also like to try and get a TDM team for the upcoming league... if you are intrested pm me on irc or reply here or where ever you think is best for you, if we get enough intrest I will set up a team. Would need active players who are willing to learn and are also active (atleast 2 days a week) GL HF.

TDM Signups end.. 13th/Feb/2012 and the CTF Ssignups end...16th /Feb/2012 3 days prior to the leagues 1st games. Map list is not 100% atm CTF is afaik (ask Drayan) TDM im still thinking about.

well ive heard about more ppl wanting deep inside on the map pool than ppl wanting it removed. Just don't get the point in removing good maps just to make a point. YES we need more good tdm maps in ql and yes some map pools are boring. i just don't get why removing some of the good tactical maps left. On the map pool listed above I'd go for A. Get deep inside back, painful enough nations cup have removed it for tornado.

Don't get rid of Hidden Fortress for Deep Inside, they are completely different types of map. Not sure why you want Intervention back, was pretty underplayed and not seen any real demand for it since it was dropped.

intervention, deep inside, grim dungeons, dreadul place, purgatory would be easily the best map pool from a tactic/teamplay point of view we've ever had. however there are people who dont want to practise as a team (or are unable to) and want pure aim maps aswell. this is actually the pool i'd love to play. the maps also vary in style massively but they atleast have decent teamplay and tactic components to them.


i dont see a huge demand for tornado (which was played quite a bit and no one really thought it was that great?) nor intervention (i think its actually quite good from a teamplay/tactic pov and personally would like to see it back in the pool, replacing some of the aim/ffa maps) so you could easily settle for a compromise pool i posted earlier. dm14, dm20, osp5, dp, purga

dm20 has evolved almost into a team version of eye to eye tbh. you can have varied styles between the maps without going full retard with them. if you compare purga and dm14 for example, the styles of play are massively different, and purga is a lot more aim heavy, but the better aiming team isnt guaranteed a victory like on dm20

I'd say max. of 2 oooold maps + 3 new(ish) maps

dm14 > osp5 if needed

new(ish):
dp and purga for sure (rather than dm20 :X)
additionally either an experiment (disirae or leviathan) or one that slowly wins in public opinion (tornado)

to me personally thats a winner pool in terms of tactics and teamplay, if i could decide the pool on my own that would be the exact one i would go with, HOWEVER i dont think putting in more old maps is a good idea, we just need to keep on shuffling them out slowly. just go with:

1) grim dungeons
2) deep inside
3) dreadful place
4) purgatory
5) dies irae, leviathan, hidden fortress, tornado.

out of the 5th maps, no one would ever pick DI or leviathan, so you shouldnt put them in. so its a split between tornado and hf. it just comes to down to you as an admin making the choice between them. in the end hopefully we will be using a pool of grim dungeons, dreadful, purgatory + 2 new maps (hoping for limbus + my/akm's map ofc)

i'd go for the same map pool as frs suggested. i'd rather play tactical maps where true teamplay matters rather than aim based maps... that's just me tho. specially on the inet it's pointless to play aim based maps when one team has an avg ping 20 and the other 55-60.. :| between tornado leviathan and hidden fortress i'd go for the latest.

osp6 won't get picked nether will tornado.

just because some individuals don't want to develop their technical skills to be a force on dm20 doesn't mean one of the most popular maps should be dropped in favour of osp6 which will be picked twice in the whole event.

How about forcing maps for each round?

Becomes a fixture lottery where you hope to get certain teams on certain maps.

Or it could force the teams to practise all the maps. That would be my case at least..
