Then again I never really considered marvel vs capcom as a proper fighting game. but SF4 is going the same way as it too.
It was curtains for me when they put in blind selects because that's when you knew they could no longer balance their games despite trying and releasing new iterations of the game.
It may have been fine if this was low priced DLC to fix some of mvc3's many issues, and add some new shit as well (mostly things that should've been since the beginning) but judging by the cover and the amazon listing this might be a full price release. That's ridiculous.
They single handedly made 2d fighters popular again and now if they keep this up they're single handedly going to kill them.
its nice to see that I have pissed you off so much that I have the power for you to ignore facts and make me the sole focus, but you're simply outmatched in this demographic and no amount of bitching is going to change that.
Once again, I'm simply repeating data recorded by other people.
So for you to say its untrue AND publicly make out that its just me only shows how tightly wound you must be to....
A) Do it in public.
B) To ignore the data collected by other pros and websites and somehow put me ahead of all these players, just so you could somehow fabricate a fantasy I am making excuses.
I knew I got into some of your heads even after you logged off but you're not even convincing me, the readers or yourself.
You're just making a fool of yourself and allowing the one person you want to claw back some ego from to dominate you even more.
Its not as pure as Street Fighter, which means in the context of something being the best, the most prestigious, the most fair and best demonstrator of skill its not it.
SF is still THE ultimate 2D fighting game and has been for 20 years.
while that it's true it doesn't mean anything below is insignificant or that far behind..
it also depends who you ask: if you go to regions like China or South America, King Of Fighters is basically SF status there. in Japan they have big established scenes for games a lot weirder than Marvel like Melty Blood or Arcana Heart..
Which 2d fighter is in your opinion "the most fair and best demonstrator of skill"? Super Turbo?
And it's not like the SF series were consistently good.
-sf1 was unplayable garbage
-all the sf2's before st were somewhat lacking but they're excused b/c they had to pave the way
-alpha1 was bad. sfa2 was boring. sfa3 was broken as fuck (but it's still my fav sf game for some reason)
-sfex series were sf in name only
-I never cared much for sf3 and all the option select/guess and win parry bullshit, but 3s was pretty damn popular
-sf4 is good I guess. The actual mechanics are pretty solid. But the balance could use more work.
Yeah you're probably right about sfa2. I got into fighting games after sfa3 was already out and I really liked that game so I never gave a2 much of a chance. The fact that no one was playing it at that point doesnt really help.
I love the look and feel of the alpha games. They're really responsive and it's easy to tell what is going on. Especially compared to something like sf4, which imo looks and feels like a mess. My reaction time in sf4 is way worse than in the older games.
Considering super turbo was released in 94 and would still satisfy/push the most hardcore SF player today, I think yes its the best beat em up of all time and runs rings around every other version since including SF4 in terms of purist game play. Ok it needed some tweaks for modern play, but that was the base to build, in fact, it was the inspiration for SF4.
SF has not been perfect over the years (and is getting worse for mass market gamers) but it still compares favourably to marvel, I watch marvel and it looks like so much BS.
It would be like playing quake and being able to teleport next to the opponent at any point in the game, or having triple rockets, or doing some other BS thing which would just rip out the chess aspect that purists have grown to love.
Marvel is Unreal Tournament. Street Fighter is Quake.
Marvel is Draughts. SF is chess.
Other games might be big, but SF has always been king.
For all the randomness that marvel supposedly has it was still fairly consistent in terms of letting the better player win. There was a period of like 2+ years where Justin Wong won every mvc2 tourney he entered. And this was during the height of marvel's popularity. You can still get randomned out by some scrub sure, but odds are in a best of 7 the more skilled player is going to win.
Marvel is very different from traditional sf visually, but the things you have to do in order to win are similar. I guess I'm just open minded and can enjoy fighters that deviate from the original formula, be it a little (cvs2), a fair amount (darkstalkers), or even a lot (marvel).
That said, I dont really like mvc3. The only reason I got it was b/c all my friends from the mvc2 scene were getting it. I'm probably going to stop playing it after Evo.
You're a clueless moron as usual. Did you ever even play mvc2?
I've beaten people way better than myself (ppl that won Evo) in single games plenty of times before. All you have to do is guess correctly a few times with a team that's capable of one hit kills. But obviously I could not get lucky enough to beat them in a long set.
If marvel tourneys were single game, single elim then the results would not be consistent at all.
Who did you beat, and with what team? Unless you're playing high tier characters, and they're playing low tier, you won't stand a chance unless you're good. Scrubs can't beat good players in MvC2. Somewhat skilled players might still lose to people who try to cheese with cable, but there's a certain skill point where that just can't happen to you anymore.
Really? I was taking wins off Wong/Sanford/Yipes every friday at chinatown fair. And no, they were not using low tiers. MSP/MSS/MIS are the easiest teams to guess and win with.
I won a few tourneys too but I was far from consistent and thus would not call myself high-level at all.
"cheese with cable" rofl. You're unbelievably clueless. Stick to speccing, kid.
while i played various SF2 titles during the '90s in the arcades, Alpha2 was the game that really got me into SF and fighting games (when GGPO was launched in 2007)
A2 is (for me) the perfect blend of traditional SF2 gameplay (1 button throws, heavily based on footsies and zoning) and modern elements (tiered Super bar, air blocking, Alpha counters..)
unfortunately A3 was released and many people assume even today that A2 is obsolete. the games are so vastly different it boggles the mind. A3 is by far the worst SF title that was taken seriously on a competitive level.
The music from the first 1 was so badass, i ripped some of them and listen to them occasionally.
I remember when i was playing ca and this shit popped up on the playlist and i started to do rjs off walls and shit like a fucking retard, fragged a nig then said 'maxmium spider'
yes, pretty outrageous
MVC3 was a rushed beta with glaring issues and missing features (spectating, replays..)
hopefully "casual" gamers won't buy it, so it signals Capcom this shit needs to stop. i can't help myself though.. game is really fun and for a few months it dwarfed SF4 on the competitive scene, which was a really welcomed breath of fresh air
PS: they're already hinting for a re-rebalance of SSF4 Arcade Edition next year. so yeah...... :D:D:D
I was just looking for the normal edition for decent price but I guess I'll skip the normal edition and go directly to this. Hopefully they'll price it like Super SF4, which was sold at halfprice when it came out.
