It's why I gave up trying to play duel in quakelive a long time ago. I would typically spend more time (maybe about 15-20min per game I actually got to play) looking for people that would actually play than I would playing. Unless you're on someone's friends list, it's pointless to try and duel in quakelive.

Is it really that harsh in the US?
Here in EU you also are running into a lot of tierslummers or your matches get fucked up by id's dumb skillmatching system, but I usually get 2-3 out of the 8-11 games I play per day, that are more or less skillmatched and that make fun.

I'm sure there's some that might get lucky and find people to play with on the first server they connect to. But more often than not I found I'd be jumping from a few to several servers before I found people that would play anyone that connected. Even then I don't see even the winner sticking around for more than a few games tops, usually they leave after 1 or 2. Unless they're a bunch of friends playing together.

Not directed at you, but yeah, I've tried dueling a different accounts so I know it's not a case of, "lol, no one likes you!!!1"

It's pretty bad in the US. At least from Chicago -> East. I've given up on joining servers that already have players in them, because usually my turn comes up and I get a request to spectate since one of them wants a rematch.

So I just join empty servers and wait around for someone else to join me. On average in a standard server I'll wait like 10 mins for someone to join. I've basically given up on premium servers. Waiting like 30 minutes for a premium duel is just silly.

Then when someone does join, about 75% of the time, it's someone who I don't even have to try to beat them, or vice versa. Yesterday dkt joined my server, wtf?

I'd like to see a duel channel up, as I have also been looking for someone around my skill level who would like to duel on a consistent basis, and not be a fucking asshole (that seems to be the problem).

Some nights I get lucky and get 2 or 3 other guys on a server that are well-matched and we play for a couple of hours. Other nights I just get wiped 16-0 a few times in a row and then give up.

just get a fixed training partner - i know playing always vs the same style is boring/makes you bad but at least you have someone who you can play against.

i havent won a single match in 20 games, i think. thats how much i love due.

Yeah, I went on a pretty shitty streak for a while. I have a couple people that I play a lot specifically because they always beat me by 3 or 4 points. Seems like good practice.

Anybody tier 3 and NA feel free to add me for duels.

Also, anybody who is really good and wants to help me improve my game add me as well. I have a vent server, pro acct, etc. : ) I know I'm pretty late to the party having just started with quakelive, but its a shitload of fun and its not possible for me to have a hobby without getting obsessive and trying to be awesome at it.

most people you see who are awesome at it have been playing some form of quake for 8-9 years, so know your odds before you start :D, however I also know people who have gone from total noob to decent player in under 1 year, so dont give up hope.

Yeah, I'm not exactly planning on taking out Rapha by next summer or anything, hahaha. Would be nice to be able to hold my own in some smaller events though.

/edit: Hit tier 4 tonight. That means I'm pro now, right?

That means be prepared for total anihilation since it is easy to get to Tier4 but that's only the beginning, now you will get really good players joining your server.

Yeah, A tier 3 player joined my server and I beat him 3-1, then my level dropped back down to 3. Was so proud of that big orange bar for like half an hour there. : (
