I'd vote no to this, since you can't ignore all the pads that result in jitter with the Abyssus.

if people who say it are right, the newer abyssi (or whatever the plural is) don't jitter on most pads. as time goes you'll be more and more likely to get one of those, so it might not be the ace now, but it'll be in the future.

Or you just got lucky? I tried the mouse back in February / early March from Newegg, it jittered on qck+. Sent it back after a couple days and about a week ago picked another one up from Microcenter locally that they just got fresh stock, it skips on qck+.

It might be a great mouse for people that accept it's flaws, but for me, I don't want to go and spend an additional $25-30 on a mousepad so it won't jitter when I have a perfectly good $15 mousepad that I like already. And I don't want to be mucking around with strips of tape so that it doesn't track 1ft above the surface. Or having to use a vise grip to press one of the buttons, which seems to need quite a bit more force than wmo or mx300, or mx310.

i bought this abyssus because i snaped the litlle thing that presses the switch in 3 pieces. Im using this on goliathus speed alfa. the previous one jittered on this pad, this one doesnt, also it says 2010 in the box, the previous one said 2008 ;)

No the specs don't match. The 3060 is 60 IPS (and tracks at much higher speeds as well obviously). The wheel looks like the one on the EC though. Same colors as CPI indicators too. Dunno if they'd use an optical encoder as well, seeing as this mouse is much cheaper.

Unless I missed it, the sensor isn't even made by Avago.

Probally one of the newer gaming grade Pixart sensors, but we won't know until someone opens it up.

Or Zowie come clean and tell us what sensor it is.

The other 'RTS' gaming mice I've looked at have had loads and loads of buttons.

The shape & weight appeal to me. Now I just need to see the right sensor + some more buttons.

The top players don't use fancy mice. If you look at top koreans playing Brood War or SC2 they seem to prefer stuff like G1 etc. So the Mico fits that. Why would you need more buttons by the way? RTS players are experts at tormenting their keyboards anyway.

there's no second site with such a well informed community in terms of hardware essential to own in quake. other communities use the razer naga, we use the microsoft wheel mouse optical / mx300 / abyssus. ; )

It all seems rather simple to us to get a mouse right. Yet no one has ever done this.

I guess the biggest roadblock is the sensor. There aren't any mouse companies to my knowledge that make their own sensors, and the ones that do are far enough removed from the mouse market not to really care about the things we care about.

Chill. You don't know what sensor they are using yet and how good or bad it will perform. The sensor of the EC is old too and still performs very well. And looks are the last thing I'm interested in when it comes to mice. I could not care less for something I stop seeing as soon as I start using it.

You can always add your own racing stripe to it with some colored tape.

I really wonder about the microswitches they say to have designed for this mouse.

Razer's Salmosa has the following dimensions: 63 × 37 x 115 mm
Abyssus is nearly identical dimension wise, only 3 mm more in height (63 x 40 x 115 mm).

That compares quite well to the Mico in my opinion ; )

The mouse wheel looks like the one on the EC. They have a boxshot on their site where you can see that the wheel will act as a CPI indicator (red, purple, blue glow) much like on the EC. If they use the exact same wheel on the mico that would be awesome (ignoring the wheel bug that was present on early ECs).

For those that are not familiar with those mice, EC1 is the bigger IME3/DA like mouse and EC2 the smaller one.

I play RTS.

And, currently I'm confortable with 1600dpi playing at 1024 screen resolution (windows 6/11 and no up/down scale sensitivity in-game). In july I will be able to play at full HD and I'm pretty sure that 1600dpi won't be enough, unless I up scale in-game and/or in windows but I don't want to do that.

If you need this much DPI than I don't see much more ways out than a Logitech G9x or a SteelSeries Xai.

Personally I think that's crazy though. When I'm playing RTS games (casually though) I use 400 DPI (or the equivalent of 400 DPI with 800 DPI).

In cs I felt confortable with the same 1600dpi sens 1.1 for ak/colt; sens 1.5 and zoom 2.4 for awp, I'm pretty much used to high sens, for almost ten years. People might be thinking (this guy gotta suck in FPS) but for my defense, back in the day (cs 1.5 days) I was #1 ranked in a couple of known servers of AWP with those high sens settings! Good old days, nowadays I'm just a casual FPS player, I focus more in RTS.

I understand you. I've been successfully playing with 13cm/360 for 1 year in a demanding fps game (W:ET, successor of RTCW) that is more like Quake and less like Camp Strike. After that I've switched to 23cm/360 and been playing with that for 2+ years. Just after I dropped ET and began playing Quake I've been playing with 17-18cm/360, but after 2 months switched back to nearly (21.4cm/360) what I was using in ET for so long.

In ET that's considered as high sens (most guys use >40cm, some even >80cm), in Quake nearly mid sens.

To be honest that clear difference in the marketing "philosophy" tells a little about the brand philosophy. Razer is targeting the more general gamers (who will love a fancy peripheral and hot girls in ads) whilst Zowie is targeting the more hardcore gamers (who obviously knows the e-sport scene and the top professional players).

Yeah that is too small for claw grip. If only razer re-released the Abyssus with a working sensor, it would be perfect (yes I know they supposedly fixed the jitter in a firmware upgrade on the new mice, but it's impossible to tell if you're buying a fixed version or not).

Razer, here is how you make mad money:
1) Fix the Abyssus jitter issue and release is as Abyssus V2.0.
2) If you're feeling generous, apply a better coating to the mouse.
3) Make mad bucks.

I bet Razer realized the Abyssus is their best mouse by far and they don't want to fix it because it's also their cheapest mouse, which means their profit would go down after people stop buying their other overpriced crap.

All these terms are confusing.

For a long time I thought I was using palm grip.
But when I think about it, I think I'm using a hybrid between 'finger tipping' and 'palming'.

This mouse shape looks good for me. I don't mind small mice as long as they are oblong, and not round like holding a cheeseburger at McDonald's (like the CM Storm is).

This mouse's (the Mico) shape looks similar to the MX310, which continues to be my all-time favourite shape.

Now the question remains how far in front or back they have placed the optical eye. If they've placed it all the way in the back, they might as well toss it out now.

could it be that the guy on the taiwanese website uses mouse acceleration or it's just a very slight one and he overdid the speed of the movement and it did something funky? I believe windows built in accel might cause "prediction" ?

The review is in a different language, so i'll summarize it, very light, buttons are very clicky and short in terms of travel, lod is good, didnt heard much about tracking yet, supposedly more trsting needs to be done for a detailed review.

Real numbers would be best but I guess thats impossible without setting up a rather complex test environment. Still I would like to know:

- which mousepads did you test. No accel, low lod, high perfect control speed; sounds almost too good to be true :)
- does it do 1000hz stable
- button response time (Roughly. Faster than wmo? Slower than xai? etc)
- what about the feet? Teflon I guess? How smooth?
- I noticed that you already answered the question about prediction in comments :)

- zowie g-tf, qck fnatic edition, steelseries 4hd. About the perfect control speed, it seems to be higher than the wmo 1.1 but I have no way of accurately measuring that. But ofcourse the 4m/s of the spawn cant be matched

-Im not going to use mouserate to change the hz, It does 500hz when I plug it in which is perfect for me

-I dont notice any delay in either mice

-The zowie mico has very small mousefeet although they seem to be high quality 100% teflon and round edges like on hyperglides

enotus test is not that good imho. Max speed usually shows higher values than real tracking speed because it shows the highest recorded value - spikes etc.
Also precision test is really hard to do right because if you rotate mouse while moving it will show very bad results. I don't want to explain why.
Smoothness test is somewhat affected by result of Max Speed, with higher MS smoothness tends to be better.

I would suggest using loger made by outerspace to plot a graph.

You have to move the mouse in a straight line to get accurate results. the dpi measurement is spot on if you do not release the button but move the distance, then look at the dpi counter.

enotus can at least show major tracking problems or a tendency which is more then enough for a mouse that got tech specs of 1.27 m/sec max. tracking (which is probably wrong or only for the highest dpi setting)

So what I am finding online is that the abyssus weighs about 52 grams without the cable, and the mico is at 68 grams? Or is this figure for the abyssus incorrect?

I'm at work right now so I can't weight my Abyssus, but I weighted it in the past on an accurate digital scale and I remember the Abyssus was exactly 10g lighter than the WMO, both without the cable. IIRC the WMO's weight was in the 70-80's, so there's no way the Abyssus weights 52g. I can weight both mice when I get home tonight, but the Mico should weight less than the Abyssus.

The Abyssus is awesome but I stopped using mine since I get jitter, AND it doesn't track slow movements on specific angles on my qck. It's a shame because the mouse has pretty much no inertia and I feel like jesus LG'ing with that thing, if they re-release a fixed version for 100$ I'd buy it.

Got this today, and I have to say I'm impressed. The most flawless mouse I have used.

Shape is good, sensor is good, wire is good, scroll is good, clicks are good.

Slight amount of prediction, but feels lower than my razer krait. Tracks at decent speeds. Moves really well on my puretrak talent, the feet are really amazing. Funny how they are kind of an oldschool style of feet just with Teflon, and so much better than those huge mouse feet you get on some mice today.

If you like small mice, would definitely be my number 1 recommendation.

With a prediction mouse, my hand is steady enough to draw a straight line every time. With a non-prediction I never make even half a straight line.

I dunno, I usually replaced the diamondbacks after 1-2 years because the plastic sides would get pretty worn. Logo never wore off though.

I pretty much peeled off the shitty parts and it was clear underneath. As time goes on sweat will turn them yellow (design flaw if you keep the mouse more than a few years, but hey I guess they want you to buy new ones), and will be even worse if you smoke.

No real way to stop it, just gets grubby after a while.

I looked into this when I had my ancient Diamondback. There's a kind of shoe-cleaner that would probably work really well. Don't remember what it was called. If you google "cleaning yellowed clear plastic" or something like that you'll probably find it eventually, along with some forums filled with guys way too concerned about shoe cleaning.

I tested my wmo just now, it tracks on two cds, but not three.

Each cd is 1.2 mm thick, so it still tracks on 2.4 mm but not 3.6. Of course there is also the matter of how deep or shallow the sensor itself is set into the mouse.

This is on a qck+ and I did this by putting a cd on each side.

He claims that he can get other mice that have the avago 9500 sensor to skip and malfunction but he cant with the Mico. Two Problems with this though.

1. In his previous reviews he claims he couldn't get those avago 9500 sensor mice to malfunction. "I can't get this xai to malfunction like a normal optical mouse" But because a new mouse is being reviewed he can suddenly get that xai to malfunction now? hmmm...

2. He doesn't seem to understand what perfect control speed is and Its not hard at all to get those avago 9500 sensor mice to malfunction on cloth pads so it isn't really impressive.

Thanks for the info. After thinking about it some more and actually paying attention to how I grip my mouse, I think it'll be too small. I have average sized hands (7", fingertip to wrist) and usually claw-grip it. But when I use lg or mg I drop the rest of my hand down on top of the mouse for stability.

That was the first Xai I was given to review, since then I have had three others to review for different sites. Each one after my original shipped with a different firmware, and became easier to malfunction.

The QPAD 5K uses the same sensor, and tracks considerably better on all surfaces than the Xai.

I can get the Xai to malfunction on a QPAD HeatoN, and I cannot get the ZOWIE MiCO to malfunction on the same mouse pad.

I also use the ZOWIE G-TF Speed as my benchmark mouse pad.

best shape I ever had, but the 1600dpi are not really native i think. I have some pixelskipping and some prediction, but other dpi settings are just fine.

Curious if you can tell me what the 'threshold' is like on it. With my wmo the mouse starts registering movement after the tiniest push.

With the xai it would require more movement for it to register. This was really annoying.

Heya I just posted a "review", and I talked about the treshold. You'll be pleased to hear that it was also a very important factor to me and I always tested it with my new mice. The mico doesn't disappoint and it registers slow, tiny movements precisely and accurately. Using mouserate.exe I also noticed that the mouse requires slower movements to make it approach it's stable and desired value (500mhz by default for the mico, I haven't tried changing it).

Just asked Zowie about the 1600dpi problem, their official explanation is that the issue is not
caused by interpolation, but the sensor's rather poor alogarism at 1.6k, on other dpi it works fine, 400, 800 etc.

Afaik they've specified for the sensor to work well at all dpi without issues but pixart don't give a shit. Dont know if its ethical to post about the inner workings of the industry but i'm going to post it anyway, zowie states that they dont have the size to push sensor manufactures to produce sensors up to their expectations, maybe if they purchased some >9000dpi LAZORSENZORZ and !$!@$BLING$BLING!$!@#% then manufactures might entertain them, but that is not their direction.

I guess that n suposedly marketed rts mouse for koreans who use mainly 800 cant fit most fps players here, but zowie did ask me to tell the community when they are capable enough they will come up with an acceptable sensor for us.

Old da is 3688 which isnt available to zowie afaik, the 3090 has high liftoff therefore isn't an option for a rts mouse which the mico fits perfectly for 400 and 800dpi. As far as the 3688 goes, there is still the liftoff distance issue that need to be settle, like i've said we should probable start a "esr" mouse design thread and see what the forum base will come up with, till zowie's portfolio is a little more free. Should i start a new thread?

We all sit here and talk about it for hours and days and months, and it's not even that complicated. The market just gets saturated with 6000DPI lasers and retarded LED's because idiots and casuals buy it up like crazy.

Yes but I don't see this scenario rapidly changing as casual gamers represent 90% of their market.

I think that if specific brands like ZOWIE and CM Storm keeps with good launchings for the "experts" we should be ok.

3090's lift off can be lowered under 2.4mm (2 cds) via firmware. CM has proven this with their spawn.

Razers lift off issues on the other hand lie firmly in their IR lens assembly and I'm honestly not sure if they could lower the lift off on the DA without creating other various problems. I mean it took them half a year to fix the 3668 and probably a whole year to get the 3888 working properly. Thunda has already tried swapping out the standard IR lens for a basic red one, but has reported back that the malfunction and perfect control rates were severely lowered with w/e lens/light source he used.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm sure the 3668/3888 could work properly without an IR lens, although it would require Razer to actually seek out or create a proper lens and change their firmware.

tl;dr I still think the 3090 is the best we're going to get after companies sort out their issues with this sensor.

Sidenote: I understand that Zowie isn't as strong as Logitech, Razer, or even Steelseries now financially, but I have to give them credit for being very innovative with their plug and play designs.

I just hope they switch to a better production factory. I've seen too many EC series mice and Celeritas keyboards with poor QC.

I think Razer could lower the LOD for IR-LED, if they were able to reduce the power to the LED.
At least i know that there is still the possibility to set the LED in sleep-mode with firmware(discovered that when i unintentionally closed some pin of the sensor, causing the firmware to be resetted until next bootup, so the LED was going in much lower light mode after a while).

I also have owned a DA 3G which had a low LOD even with IR-LED, and when u compared the light coming from the LED with another DA, you saw that the ones with low LOD was darker.

Funny, i dont have problems(quality) with my ec nor celeritas, ec have scroll bug in ealier batches because they were screwed too tightly, and circuitry problems that would kill the sensor or afftect its tracking in some weird shit way, but the latest iterations are problem free from personal experience. The direction with the ec obviously went with Heaton's preference which he doesnt mind prediction and was fanatical about liftoff i think thats why they didnt used the 3090. 2.4 is almost 1mm higher then the ec's 1.5mm. What i think we should do is like i've stated, start a esr mouse design thread, vote for sensors based on user preference, for example, how much ips do we really need and find a proper compromising value in regards to liftoff, that being said every aspect should be decided by members and we'll see if zowie is going to be willing to make it for us.

Maybe I'm just assuming here, but I believe they went with the 3060 since it was literally the cheapest gaming grade Optical Avago sensor you can get your hands on at the time.. It was also proven not to have the issues many other sensors suffer from. As for the 3090, R&D for the EC series mice was finished well before the sensor even launched.

Dont get the wrong idea, i don't work for zowie but i know some of them, i'm only posting in their place because they think its a bad idea for "officials" to comment here but be assured that they are watching this thread because i linked it to them and state that old-school fpsers are not happy with the mico.

Again i'm not defending them out of any corporate purpose, other then personal experience, but like you i have my own issues regarding zowie's products, ec's huge ass feet has too much static friction for me, Heaton doesnt mind prediction but i cant F*CKING stand it, no it isnt placebo because i can tell the difference before ss's article thats why i keep going back to my 3.0. Sensor
At 400 and 800 dpi, this sensor is flawless. I couldn’t get it to skip, and it shows no signs of negative/positive accel. I admit I haven’t tried my hardest to get the mouse to malfunction, but I play with a low-mid sens and swiping on my mousepad as fast as reastically possible caused absolutely no problems. At 1600 dpi the mouse acts weirdly, see the other post in this thread that explains it.

The treshold for movement registration is also very low, which means moving a tiny amount, at a very slow pace will still get the mouse to register movement perfectly. This is an often overlooked aspect, and it’s mostly important to high sens users. I have a theory that the reason the WMO/Explorer 3.0 feels so good is because it also used a sensor that registered these small movements properly. Some of the more recent mice with otherwise good sensors had trouble with this, and for some reason these mice felt weird to me (it might all be in my head though), maybe this is the reason why.

Also this is the first mouse out of all the ones I own where the mouserate.exe program reports close to perfect constant 500mhz.

Shape/weight
I admit I have small hands, but the shape of the Mico is as good as the kinzu/abyssus in my opinion. It weights about the same as the Abyssus but it’s smaller, and it gives a more « controlable » feel to the mouse. Weight is one of the most important aspect in a mouse for me : it has to be lightweight. I now consider the WMO too bulky to be useable, and that has been the case since I tried the Abyssus. It’s hard to explain, but a mouse that is too light causes it to feel uncontrolable, I’d compare that feeling to using a mouse on a slippery plastic mousepad. The mico is perfect here, it feels heavier than the Abyssus since it’s smaller but it also has all the advantages of the light mice for LG fights, which is where I lose the mose precision when I use a heavier mouse. The abyssus also felt pretty good with it’s weight/size ratio, and so does the mico.

Buttons
This is a category which is not really important to me, but I don’t see any problems with the buttons. Keep in mind I use the keyboard to fire in quake, and I don’t play RTS so I don’t feel like my opinion here is the best. The buttons offer a bit more resistance than the Abyssus, and it’s about on-par with the WMO. The scrolling of the mouse wheel however feels pretty good with noticeable « clicks » (I wouldn’t have trouble scrolling up exactly 5 times fast and precisely), but the mouse3 button is again a bit on the stiff side.

LOD
The lod is very low, a slight bit lower than the WMO on my qck+. I can’t give exact values since I’m at work.


Conclusion
I’d recommend the mico to anyone that like the abyssus but had trouble with jitters (unless you don’t want a mouse smaller than the abyssus). At 400 and 800dpi the sensor feels the best out of all the ones I’ve tried, and the weight is also perfect for me. I have sweaty hands and I had no troubles holding the mico at « sweat levels » (feels gross but yesterday was particularly hot here yesterday) that would make holding the WMO feel like a bar of soap. With my small hands I can claw grip the Mico hard, which is important for my LG accuracy. Please don’t hold me responsible if you find out it’s too big for you though because I have smallish hands. It also feels a bit heavier than the Abyssus, and I’ve never held a kinzu but I suspect the both « feel » lighter since they’re bigger. In my opinion it isn’t a disadvantage and I feel it gives more control over the mouse, while retaining the ability to move the mouse effortlessly and very quickly (not much intertia, makes hitting the good dogers in LG fights possible).

Also, the mico is my favorite mouse out of all the ones I’ve listed above. I’d consider it equal to a jitter-free abyssus, which unfortunately seems to be a gamble.

Hmm Interesting, although the Avago ADNS-3090 is a perfectly capable sensor with the correct firmware/srom.

I'm guessing that Pixart's offerings "work" and are much cheaper to purchase in bulk.

Hey guys I'm the fellow canadian that posted a review earlier. I'd just like to let you know that my scroll wheel started malfunctioning. It randomly stops scrolling, at first it happened for 1-2 seconds then it would start working again but this morning it happened for a minute or so. It seems to be a firmware problem, since I don't see why a mechanical component could stop working and then start activating the scroll wheel again a minute later.

I also had issues changing the DPI sometimes, even when the mouse wheel works the DPI won't change.

So beware, I might have received a 1 in 30000 defective mouse but it might be a problem that will start happening to more people.

The roccat kova+ has the "same" sensor, just one letter different in its model name - and the kova+ has a scrollwheel bug at 500hz, which is similar to what you describe (I have a kova+ but haven't tested 500hz yet). I don't know if it affects every kova+, and I don't know if the scroll wheel has anything to do with pixart, and if the problem is caused by the same thing, but it does seem fairly likely.

Maybe if you try to run the mouse at 1000hz it will stop the problem, theres a chance you won't be able to, but may be worth a shot :)

Funnily enough I can already tell that this works. I know because it always took me like 4-5 tries to change the mouse DPI and always required a different number of scrolls (click down mouse 1 and 2 and roll the mwheel) but now it works instantly and it always takes the same amount of scrolling to change. I'll report back here if I get the bug again.

If you don't mind paying 20 euros shipping I got mine delivered from the zowiegear website in 3 work days. The mouse is fucking solid but I came to the conclusion that I like the Abyssus more because it feels lighter (Abyssus is a bit bigger, but they're both the same weight, so it has less inertia).

Prediction does matter if you don't like using it. Personally I think non-prediction mice feel more responsive. Why would you want a mouse that slightly alters your movement in a game so demanding as quake? Maybe prediction won't make you miss a ton of shots, but it can make you miss by a few pixels on angled shots.

I don't understand how these gaming companies keep getting it wrong. Give us a mouse that tracks at high speed, doesn't require drivers, has a low lod, and no +/- accel or prediction. The rest is all personal preference.

Without divers installed Kinzu has very less prediction. He probably doest use drivers.

I once was very sure that mouse prediction was shit. But the fact is it can be helpfull in alot of situations where you have to move your mouse in a straight line (this is what you do with lg alot of the time). So its not that bad after all.

ok it really has unnoticable prediction at the speeds I move my arm/hand with, which is pretty twitchy and fast. no negative or positive accel. very nice.
materials are OK, did get some handsweat issue when it was really hot outside... but nowhere near DA for example.

one bigger problem IS however the liftoffdistance too high on my Artisan SHIDEN white mousemat. ARE there any mouseskates that would work with this mouse out yet? I compared quickly with my G1's feet and it just seems the Mico has a bit smaller... so that's not going to work I assume?

I don't wanna put some tape on the sensor cause when I did that with my abyssus it started reading the mousepad in an odd way.

I have got it 5 days and I cant seems to use it.

Sensor is not that good, I cant explain it. Sometimes it has prediction sometimes it hasn't. Tracking isn't like EC2. I try to draw straight lines and it draws diagonal lines (straight like prediction).

But I have really hard time to aim with it where I can aim pretty good with my DA black edition which is way too heavy for me. Not for me I think. Shape and weight is pretty good and its personal preference too. Cord is stiffer than I thought too.

I would say Valor tracks better than this and if they really release some new firmware for it.

I posted earlier about my Mico having a broken mouse wheel (it would stop working randomly), which also meant the DPI switch wouldn't work fine since it uses the mwheel.

I contacted Zowie and they replaced my Mico with no issues, and I'd like to remind everyone that the mouse is pretty awesome :D I guess I got unlucky with the first mouse because I haven't seen anyone else with a similar problem.

This mouse is my favorite mouse right now. For me it feels much more comfortable to grip the sides then when I used my abyssus. I heard a little squeaking from the scroll wheel but it seems to have went away. We shall see how it holds up. If it stays intact later on I don't think I will be looking for a new mouse down the road.

Yes its 1600 is broken even on the newer gen mico's.

I saw some mspaint lines of 1600dpi for the mico and it seemed fine. Could it be a pad issue?

Try to draw a straight line at 1600DPI in paint with the pencil when windows is set to 6/11. You can see that when your line isn't perfectly straight the line will jump two pixels instead of one like it should.

thats how it looks like. but its a good 400/800 DPI sensor.They just shouldn't sell it as a 1600 DPI mouse.

testet on roccat Alumic, razer Scarab and steelseries 4HD.

I had the person I'm getting the mico from test it, and it does have that problem at 1600 dpi. Oh well, 800 should be enough.

Needs a thumb-button.
BTW, MX310 best.

I can't believe someone was saying sensor is ok. It's total garbage, aims wherever it wants, million times less comfortable then wmo, it isnt even as smooth. Do not buy this mouse!
