second, i think it was disabled because the site is too inactive.

Still, pretty active - maybe not enough for a weekly round up, but maybe for a month? Sometimes we miss ale the great text, replays and dramas. For plus system to work fully some kind of summary who got most of them of the following week is a must.

third, there are more "critical" problems to fix and no time. in sum, it's too low priority to even look in

I'm aware that there are many critical problem with higher priority, but weekly awards was a cool feature and fixing it can take so much time - I mean it was working well, so it's not like it has to be made from scratch

Let me put it this way for you. ESR is owned by hexus who put up a lot of annoying banners and collect enough money to send reporters to events and do other cool things, but which they keep, and don't give back to ESR, which is running on 5 year old hardware and 10 year old codebase. They gave me access to the server because I care enough about the site staying alive to do it for free, which they recognize as a good deal, but I don't. If ESR was a sensibly run enterprise, you'd imagine things would be a lot different. Hope that clears it up for you.

Don't forget strenx destroyed cooller on t7 and dismemberment and had the upperhand on t4 before he suffered from lag. In my opinion strenx should have deserved the win or atleast a rematch or at the very least from the moment lag kicked in.

I think cooller would have had a rematch if the same happened to him. Props to the shitty admins and asslicking bandwagonners @ ESL.

I dunno about you guys but I found most of the Dismemberment matches interesting, not slow at all. I'd say both Dismemberment and Battleforged were just bad first impressions, are probably better than Hektik and are surely mappool-worthy. At least from spectator point of view, I'd love to hear some opinions of pro players after this tournament ;)

It is really simular to dm6 in its simplicity, itemlayout etc.
But easier to play out of control because you can get weapons much easier. So I dunno, don't think there is much wrong with it.

I think we need new maps, not yet another ancient map from Q3 that wasn't even too appreciated.

Actually, Dismemberment got removed from map pool, because people appreciated new maps :) And it got there in the first place for the same reason.
I'm just saying that we might just as well put dm6 back in the map pool if we are so nostalgic, but we need to move forward at some point, no?

To me it seemed like cypher was having really hard time focusing in that game vs strenx.
That's the biggest enemy of cypher, is motivation, or what people call emo side.
Have you ever seen cypher missing those easy rail shots? or missing 3 rockets in a row ?
He actually said he plays for 1st and 3rd 4th match is not that serious.

Anyway, congrats strenx he played well but that wasn't cypher.

Well it was in a game for 3rd and he's said he doesn't care about third time and time again (especally against av3k, they're friends and they seem to only play the last map seriously; which could be the reason for it always going to the last map btw); I do not think that this lack for motivation when playing for 3rd matters at all when he's storming through the brackets for his 1st.

I'm just saying that he seemed really affected about loosing vs av3k.
You could tell by the way he was playing and the shots he was missing. In some situations he missed rails that most noobs hit.

I was just stating that he sometimes gets really introspective when he loses a game and he's very fragile at the mental aspect.
Remember the game where he was winning 2 0 vs rapha and he lost 3 2?
You could see the lack of confidence in his eyes whilst rapha was taking maps away from him.
I'm not even cypher fanboy, i'm just pointing something i saw in the game.

That was some epic match.

Very wp strenx, that SG and close range combat rox "grunt's style" were very nice @ dismemberment. Very solid play overall.

Too bad for cypher, losing to av3k and then strenx. Still one of the best quake player ever tho.
Seems like cypher's era is over ? Or was he in a bad day ? Anyways, this is quake, and anything can happen at the next LAN events, so i guess that he's still at the very top of the 'pro' duel players list, even after these 2 loss.

av3k's return ? I trully hope he will win this tournament. I always knew that av3k was one of the best quake player ever, no matter if it's q4/q3/ql, this guy just needs motivation to be at the top. If he cba, then you can be sure that you won't see him at the top, but when he cares 100%, he's one of the toughest opponent for sure. And also one of the only few players who can beat... cypher.

Cooller all times 2nd ? :> Ok, this guy is definitely cool & badass, but man, he's such a troll, always smiling and stuff when he beat his opponent, i mean, he just looks like this http://www.threadbombing.com/data/media/13/75378-TrollFace.png. Anyways he's still a very good player, and even after all these years he can still manage to stay at the top, gg. However one day I hope that he will finally leave his place to younger players, I mean, he won enough tournament already in the past :D, it's time to let the younger players reach the top now ffs :>.

nice match but looked like 100 % strenx vs 75 % cypher...

But it happen a couple of times when cypher played bad for 3rd place.

Its a difference beetwen avek, cypher cooller and other players... First three aiming only for 1st place so i think thats why cypher played so bad...

If it would be a match for 1st place im sure we could see 5 maps but not sure who would won. Thats true

I'm not nationalist, but it's true I'm glad we have a good player from France. I also support GohLink and L1nkje whenever they play ^^. I don't see how it's dumb or disrespectful to others.

My favourite duelers are Strenx, Avek and Cypher, they aren't all french, and I'm glad Strenx ends up third because he's a pretty funny player, casting his own matches, not arrogant (contrary to Cooller imo, great player but bad attitude), etc.

Now I hope Avek wins, he isn't french...shouldn't I cheer for him ?

That's why you should stick to CA heartless.
The only epicness in the match was the fact that last map didn't went to overtime for 1/2 second.

Another thing i don't understand is why people talk about av3k has a player that could be at the top but isn't.
Cmon av3k is a top 3 contender for every tourneys he plays.. Motivated or not he's one of the most talented players in the game top 3 always for sure.

For the final : Honestly, i'm not one of those cooller fanboys, he was my favorite player back in q3 because when he was the best is gamestyle was really awsome to watch.
He was a normal dude back then very professional, i remember him @ eswc 200/something when he was younger and he was a really shy and professional guy always hanging with his friends and not partying (except for unkind who was a party monster).

Conclusion: Maybe cooller is a bit frustrated for the last 2 years without a win and if he wins he might become the person he was, more relaxed and focused in the game.
So ye hope he wins, even tho av3k is a nice dude.

CS is ok for what it's worth, but it's so static.. come on! it's a video game. at least COD has a sprint button!

The lightning gun is for close combat, rocket launcher is pretty popular, rail is long distance, etc...

The physics for CS's grenades are the best you can get. Because they're not like retarded pineapples that you throw and bounce around randomly, you can make incredibly detailed strategies involving HE, flash and smokes. If they look funny to some people, meh, but when you consider the gameplay benefits to them, it's so much better

CS is much more fun to play competitively than it is to watch, It suffers from the pace it's played at typically and as someone mentioned it's difficult to get a complete picture of what took place in around because you're switching between players so frequently.

I watched the fx vs mtw match yesterday and all the screaming, cheering, provoking the other team, sick clutch rounds make cs really enjoyable.

CS is like many people play Clan Arena. Sneak around silently or spam the corners madly.

Maybe I'd like it if I ever played CS, but to the ignorant me it looks incredibly boring. Even shooting looks random and strange, it's as if a QL TDM match is being played by spamming the corners with empowered machineguns, haha. I saw the occasional grenade and "railgun" (no idea how it's called in CS), but do they ever aim or it's all guesswork? :) Shooting doesn't look very precise to me. But I'm really ignorant, don't even know some words that CS shoutcasters are using, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's all wrong.

SC2 was disappointing, too, I could understand absolutely nothing. Some unknown units moving around, some unknown buildings. You have to have played the game to understand anything about it.

Sum up:

I wish they didn't spread all games like this, but first day one game, second day another game, third day the third game, etc. Although it would take more days than four I'm afraid.

theres a lot of strategy but from what I understnad:

first round is pistols only because teams have no money

whoever wins it gets to buy good weapons and probably wins a few more rounds before things balance out

each round, teams try a strategy and strategy usually trumps aiming (I think? theres a few times 1 guy can take out 3, but usually not)

each map has a side thats easier to win on than the other, and since teams switch after 15 rounds, you just try to win as many rounds on the bad side as you can

theres a lot of strategy from what I understnad too:

whoever wins it gets the better pistols , has more chances to make more money to buy more effective camping weapons, and probably win a few more rounds before the other teams counter-camps it out

each round, teams throw grenades behind walls and luck usually trumps skill (I think? there's a few times 1 guy sits there watching a wooden box, but usually it's a wall)

each map has a side that's easier to camp than the other, and since teams get bored after 15 rounds, you just try to not fall asleep whilst you watch the same pixel for 2 minutes straight

The act of shooting in CS actually requires more aim than quake. Guns have a recoil patter that you must learn to control and compensate for. Bullets start going up due to recoil, you pull your crosshair down to make them go in the same spot. The snipers pretty much fire right on the red dot.

Of course. Quake gameplay touches many more levels than CS can. Dodging however does exist, but to a much smaller extent - the strafing between the bursts at long range, or even the shooting while moving at close range, plus the all-famous duck =)

What's the goal in forcing people like me watch other games? Next time I will prolly wait for VODs instead of viewing the championship live, it's too bad to lose the whole day for nothing but being glued to the PC and not knowing when the games start in fear to miss something. Shedule isn't followed. Cmon I want to sleep like hell already, midnight soon, and it's still CS! That doesn't make me appreciative of CS at all, I rather wish to never ever see it again in my life.

Man, I wish the shoutcasters actually talked about www.quakelive.com. You have like 20k viewer for some of the Quake games, but they never mention that quake is free =( I'm sure a few hundred more players out of 20k would try it then.

While I agree that duel takes the most skill of all games as a single player tdm/cod are nowhere near on the level of 1.6 5on5. And no there won't be a better team game which requires the skill and offers the depth of 1.6.

Anything really. The professional (playing and watching) scene is as small as it is for other games, any of the popular games could fill the spot. Easily. It wouldn't even have to be a teamgame, if this 5on5 craze wouldn't be going on people would be playing quake, starcraft or street fighter on the stage that cs is played today.. Watch cs getting replaced after it's going to die, in like 1.5 years (c) some top players; CoD would be my guess, unless promod or valve can make something happen.

I'd also like to point out that 80% of CS players in the balkans don't even have steam.
Cos of our relativly bad connections local tournaments are better than playing in online competitive leagues since you are pretty much crippled by ping.
So no one wants to "invest" until they at least achieve something on local level. I'd imagine it's a similar situation in some other "developing" countries :)

against strenx it was a 5 mapper, where cooller quit early in two of those games. whereas those 3 maps here were so close and tense, swinging forth and back with decisive frags happening literally in the last seconds, i probably couldn't have taken 5 of those.

While I agree that duel takes the most skill of all games as a single player tdm/cod are nowhere near on the level of 1.6 5on5. And no there won't be a better team game which requires the skill and offers the depth of 1.6.

I don't get it why the communities can co-exist :/

QW TDM would take just as much individual skill as qw 1on1 and as much teamwork as cs if it had that many players; ql tdm with some fixing too. Even more IMO, the tools for teamwork in quake > the tools in cs. I think it's a false, yet common belief just because people have only seen cs on the spotlight. I do agree that it is on the highest level that a teamgame is played ATM. And surely cod is a crappy game, but it's the most likely contender for that spot once cs dies off :<

Well I'm just unhappy that it gets more attention (and money) while ql deserves more, personally :) I consider it a tier below QL, sc2/sc1 and some fighting games, which I consider to be the only worthy esports games. Ok I can't say anything about qw but it is a dead game anyway and was never big. I might be wrong correct me if so.
CS isn't hard to learn but most people compare some pub experiences with real 5on5 and underestimate the game thoughts and thinking overall which you have to do in cs. The skill cap should be high for a esports game and cs has a pretty high one. The problem I have with tdm is that it is not viewer friendly. It might be nice to play it but it's just plain fucking boring after a view matches because the amount of actions comes down to quads and the last 2 min. I know some will flame me for that but it is the truth.

Even more IMO, the tools for teamwork in quake > the tools in cs.

I think this is wrong. But I'm to tired to argue again about this. There is a really long thread here on esr where the belgian guy and zeriton explained it well.

I agree that I would like to see more money for quake duel because it is the most interesting game out there even for me. Really loved this tournament - best drama, best games, emotions, casts (I want to cheer both for lvl^ and esl.tv cause they deserve it, great great job), epic irc floods during cooller-killsen match, when # was literally exploding after every cooller's frag, and cooller getting back on throne <- how tourney can be more epic than this?
Also big props for avek for behaving like a man (if u say gg go shake hand with ur oponent, not to try bitch him with some sneaky comeback, hai cypher), and best interviews among all players.
Had really great time :)

they replayed obviously, since recreating the state is even more idiotic/impossible in starcraft 2. ~~But I think the power went down again, so it's getting a bit pointless~~

Yea, but Joe had also some great moments, on last map of cs finals terrorists were standing in the middle of nowhere making some towers to look through the window and Joe said something like :
"See? They are chilling. Why? Because they can."
There were also other quotes like this one but this lasted in my head, because it was hilarious according to the situation. These little things really spice up his commentary, feels so much improved comparing to the past

cooller(in my mind :P)
and still played in unfair conditions admin wanted(if it was me i wouldn't)
Managed to get the overtime i mean seriously epic shit.

Having said that.

Congrats to cooller for 1st place. I feel like he needed it, if he lost vs strenx he would probably quit quake, since even he said in a interview "it would be epic, biggest fail of my career ".
He also kept saying i need my goal etc :) So now we have really motivated cooller, something we haven't seen in a long time.

But for me player of the tournament = strenx for sure

Between Cooller making the russian WCG qualifier going on to beat Zero4 in 2002 and winning this tournament, I went from a kid to a MD myself, and Anton has finally taken back what his special talent for quake requires to be his, the spot at the very top.

I've been a fan since back then, of the player and character, but just as much of the game of quake.
Being a huge sports fan, it is incredible what level of interest and tension this level of quake can induce in myself as a spectator, matches have the potential to be amazingly exciting, probably even more than any of the other sports I take interest in.

Thanks to ESL for organising and to Level^ and ESL-tv for broadcasting this awesome spectacle.

It was very well played by Cooller..he definitely looks extremely comfortable against avek's style and he deserved that win for sure.

However I have to say it didn't look like av3k was playing 100pct. I mean there was no way he should have lost that ztn..he made many mistakes and the following maps his attacks were quite poor and his timing seemed off compared to how he played against cypher earlier in the day.

Eitherway, the finals in Germany looking even more exciting now if everyone can bring their top form. :DDD

I demand every demo and the complete config pack. I don't have a VIP account on HLTV.org but those guys still do a commendable job when it comes to upping the demos right after a match.

Was great even overall

However I would say that Slasher is a terrible caster

Always interrupting the other caster (stermy or nvc) to say "WOW" or "He just hit 2 solid rails there", stating the most obvious/useless stuff while the other guy is saying way more interesting things
