These specs.

Windows starts in roughly 25 seconds. It runs as smooth after 3 days as it does an hour after booting.

I've got a Corshair F60 which is really quite cheap and its performance is insane. Reads 280mb/s and writes roughly the same.

Rest assured: Once you go SSD, you will never go back.

Yeah but they are expensive. I would go with KingSpec for good price/performance. My dad had me eBay him a bunch of them for his laptops and he knows his stuff.

time since I've installed the program which was on the fist day. If you want to know what the health meter is based on, do the research yourself because I cannot remember anymore. (I tried to figure it out as well - some people argue about the "correctness" of the data but I am pretty sure that it reflects a reasonable time-frame giving the technology we have atm (especially trim)

I was asking when the "first day" was? Was it 26 days ago, or is that how long your PC has been turned on for (in total)?

try it in a month or so. also always keep the disk rather empty! i had the same in the beginning. looks like you havent used it too much yet.

(= you can still question the data it receives from the ssd though) maybe in the future there are better programs that can estimate the lie-time of an ssd.

that test is not relevant imo. If you want to check actual and real performance levels, use ATTO disk benchmark or smth similar to it. Read/write/random levels are what matters most.

They are not up to speed for me since I encrypt my drive. But it is still waaay faster than a regular IDE though.

Ever heard of TRIM? If you're using Windows 7 trim is enabled by default as the OS can detect an SSD. If you're on smth older like XP then most manufacturers provide a little soft you have to manually run now and then which basically does the same thing as TRIM on windows 7.

I have had SSDs for over a year now. The first one I had was 64 gb and I used it for like 8 months before I sold it. I ran benchmarks every 2 months to be 100% sure it doesn't loose any performance. At the time it was sold, it had 0% performance drop! Screen-shots to prove it:

tho i grant you that the write cycles are probably much higher than they were a few years ago, i still think its counterproductive to use relatively expensive disk-space for cacheing.

You will use it for what? Storage? The real deal of ssd's is not to make skyrim loading time faster, but overall windows expirience smoother/faster. To do that the cache is good thing to be on the ssd. Also those drives are not that expensive anymore, and by the time yours fail they will be mainstream.

I put one in my netbook and it is a lot faster, its ocz vertex 2 or whatever its called.. 60gb, read/write speeds around 280. just my cpu isn't fast enough to get the most out of it, but you wouldn't have this problem with a desktop or proper laptop.
make sure your os supports trim, otherwise it'll degrade faster... or something

What about running time? I know flash memory degrades over time used as they have limited write cycles. Some companies battle this by using a lot of space as reserve for failed memory cells.

Still, there are only a handful of ssd's with more then 3 years warranty. I don't like the thought of guranteed failure at like 1 or 2 years after warranty expired.
I use one of my HDD for 8 years now, it is still good at an acceptable speed. So that'S how long a HDD should work, not 4 years or whatever.

On the other hand you pay double for a ssd with a warranty of 10 years. Maybe that's even a scam? on a market so quickly changing like the memory market, what company can an will seriously refund you after their SSD broke down at 9.5 years? I don't think so tbh....

There isn'T, but for different reasons. HDD'S normally have mechanical failure whereas SSD have like a limit you could not surpass at any rate. So SSD are sure to fail where HDD can last forever, but statistically don'T.

LOL, all the new 25nm ssd drives are rated at 3000 write cycles per block, down from 5000 for the 34nm. Where did you pull the 100k from, SLC memory??

Yes, I was referring to SLC memory as used in higher end SSDs like the X25E. Completely different story with lower end consumer MLC drives, I’d be very careful about lifespan there.

I read up on it a bit more and this is correct, a lot lower than I realised. I guess if you want long life you should use the SSD for read-only where possible and normal HDD for bulk storage. I'd still recommend getting one for the OS and often-used programs, it's so responsive. You should get over 100 TB of writes (judging by some of the attempts to burn out SSDs I'm reading), not sure what you'd need that much writing for for normal home use, especially if you off-load some of it to a normal HDD.

I think the system drive gets a lot of writes. Still I can settle for 5 years max. lifetime. 10 years is unreasonable, it got to have a catch (or the company is out of business at the time the SSD fails, memory market changes so fast...)

Yep, there are. Norton Ghost for example.

if you do that watch out - when you install windows vista or 7 (xp doesnt do this) - it knows its going on to a ssd and sets a load of parameters to make it run tidier and quicker....

if you just clone it and move it, you will be running like a hard drive, it will still be quicker but chances are that over time it will start to bog down a lot quicker (and can be unhealthy for the drive.. i think it also picks random spots to write to on the drive to avoid wearying out the memory in specific places.)

it's called trim and you can enable that later, using a backup to restore a previous os won't change that.

It's not a good time to buy because of the current situation in Asia (high prizes). Maybe buy a small SSD now and add/change to a bigger SDD later.

I will be waiting until the prices come down and I can get a 160gb+ SSD.

Tbh since I got an i5 and 8gb DDR3 ram my machine is really speedy, huge improvement, even with a normal hard drive, I load faster than all my friends in games now.
