CA is fun and there are tons of ppl who play this game and mod just for FUN. They dont want to learn tactics, counting items and shit - they just want to have some fun after work etc. I dont expect you to believe this, but for many of them QL is just a free browser game, not a way to spend their whole free time to get that 60 percent rail or shaft and be an online hero

The problem with CA is the lack of objective. Every game has something that encourages players to move. cs has planting the bomb, duel/tdm/ctf have items, et/rtcw have documents or stuff you have to blow up etc.
CA doesnt have any of those. so unless the map is really really small there will be areas on maps that give you a positional advantage. So in theory lets imagine two teams play ca on dm6 and one team occupies the ya jumppad and stands around it waitng for oponents to come. They are at a disadvantage to move away, and on the other side the other team is at a disadvantage rushing in. This is why there is no way you can play ca seriously, it becomes a game of patience more then anything.

Exception to this are small maps as ive said, since for example on Thunderstruck there isnt really any place you could just camp at to get a positional advantage.

you forgot time limit. as soon as score is 1-0 the other team has to move to not lose the game because of that. happened to us in cw, we were in lead and we told them we wont move into their camp hole and will just w8 and win, after that they started playing normal :)

I would like to try CA with items, I believe there was something like that voteable in CPMA.

I totally agree. CA is a game of patience and mostly aim oriented. BUT, when it's 2on2, it starts to require some brain, because although everyone is stacked, if your opponent outthinks you there's a good chance you will die quickly. The only component removed is timing.

That's why I don't like CA with more than 3 players on each side. It becomes a slaughterhouse and no matter how much u try to outthink your opponents, when you're faced with 3-4 players (who can actually shoot a damn rail) there's nothing you can do.

And as others have said, taking out timing makes it easier and more relaxing (after a day's work).

ca is the gametype that really killed quake imo.
it was the first one that really allowed people to jump in and play without learning anything aside from move and click (and not having negative consequences).

some could argue ffa is jump in and play, but you're fighting to get the most frags. ca, you can do nothing for 9 rounds, then kill all 5 enemies the 10th and have more points than a teammate. like someone said above me, there's just absolutely no objective to it unless its 2v2 on a few particular maps.

Most ppl in this thread only have the competence to declare a CA competitive game unwatchable or not to their liking. And they are entitled to their opinion.

But leave the judging of CA as a competitive mode to the ppl that actually knows about competitive CA.

So yeah I don't take the random casual / dual / ctf / tdm / public ca players arguments/whine about "NO PICK UP ITEMS NO SKILL, ROCKET JUMP IN THA FACE TACTICS, CA KILLED QUAKE, " as a valid argument against CA.

Competitive CA has its qualities and has been played for years with a big following. I have played most modes in quake3 at a high level, and CA demands another skillset then other modes. And yes CA has its flaws just like all other modes, but the arguments in this thread are borderline retarded. And frankly smells of players who have been raped to much when joining a CA server.

The thing about CA is that it's fun to play but rather tedious to watch.

CA can be fun to watch when the players don't take the game too seriously and are hitting crazy frags (kicked and removed).

Kicked and removed is a fragmovie, watching a stream of CA is all but that.

it's still fun and fast to watch. from experience, hardly anyone camps on pubs - players actively move and rj around the map just to find others to frag. on pubs, a lot of players do rambo it. suicidal but fun =D although this is a competition we're talking about so i guess my rambo point is moot.

Guess we don't share the same experience on public CA.
