The odds are influenced by the money bet on a specific outcome.
So, if on a new bet with two options someone bets 5000 on one option, the odds for that option will drop, while the other one will rise.
So, if you bet 5000 on the 2nd option right away you can profit from those odds.

If you bet on the option with the higher probability (payout lower than 2:1) first and they on the other one, you are guaranteed a win without. This is very similar to arbitrage.



tl;dr: Without the delay people can abuse the betting system we have here.

oh i get it. why is it banned though? this is perfectly acceptable in the stock market. i see companies with enough money to move a stock doing the exact same thing day in day out. they they wipe out the small fish, rebalance their own exposure back to zero and cash in the rest. they even got the balls to call themselves liquidity providers while all they do is suck it away.

the betting is a zero sum game, right? you can only win ESR$ other people lose after all. if the reality is crazy, why should we keep our little esport site sane?

ESR$ is worth more then US$ so any real-life comparisons are pointless.

there might be a way, but I can't think of it on the spot. And it would certainly make it all behave a lot differently.

well educate me. where is the hole in my logic? i am not an expert by any means but i read a fair bit of financial blogs and wish to provoke public discussion on the topic. the system is broken and unfair, nothing will change until people realize it.

i think the method of manipulation i mentioned above is the exact reason why we need a transaction tax.

Oh, I agree that we should have a transaction limitation because there are too many trades. Either a tax or have a delay on reslling an investment, as has also been proposed. But mainly because bank will take their "cut" with the trades, thereby effectively reducing the money that can be used for real investments. The problem with the tax is that there is the risk that the banks will not reduce the amount of trades, will still take their cut and let "us" pay the tax.

Anyway, I think you should at least try to figure out the fundamental difference between this system and, for example, the stock market. It might actually help you understand a bit more about finances.

well ofc there is a diff between these 2 systems, i just take any opportunity to flame banksters. their lobbyists manipulated our governments into buying each others debt. every euro they monetize means the money in your wallet is worth a tiny bit less. we have to stop that.
