I can't tell you how much I would like to do that map pool.

But dropping DM6 from a pure appeal perspective would be stupid.

As much as I hate it, and as much hate as it gets everywhere else, everyone plays DM6.

What I think needs to be realize is that there will be little to no concequences in using DM6.

The excuse that EVERYONE plays it is arguably an excuse, but the positives far outweight the negatives.

Yes, EVERYONE plays WoW, does that make it a good e-sports game? No, it's in E-Sports because those leagues and broadcasters will get MANY viewers because of it.

Lets look at DM6. EVERYONE plays it, but if it wasn't in tournaments, would people not play? I think the amount of people you'd lose to would be so small, a difference wouldn't be noticeable. You would probably see more happier players than upset ones. The people who are upset are the people who rely on that map for their +1 map win against their opponents. Well, I think DM6s time is over. We've dealt with that bullshit enough. Many many many people agree that it's a shit map, I'm sure you've heard and read it all.

I know map does not equal game (DM6 -> WoW), but I hope that analogy helps. If you dropped DM6, I'm confident in the fact that you wouldn't lose signups. Very confident. I don't believe people are that religiously for that map. The people who do play it 24/7 are the lower tier players, or people just completely obsessed with it (since it tends to be more of an aim map).

I think if you took the initiative, we could see a better map pool. Try a new map pool for a week or two, see how it goes. Who knows, it could be the new standard for maps in North America. The reason we haven't seen DM6 leave is because no leagues or organizers want to risk it. The risk is minimal. You have the chance to change QL tournaments.

I think you should take that chance :)

i dont think anyone plays dm6 really anymore(or not as often). For me personally its just not a enjoyable playing experience, I dislike the map, item placement, and spawns. all the other maps are fine

I think playing dm6 has become more of a habit, kinda like watching tv, doesnt matter how crappy the shows are, people are still gonna watch it.

Why not go with the current gold standard of dm6. dm13, t7, t7, and ztn? Might as well go with what the pros are playing. Nobody wants to have to practice maps that aren't in major tourneys. It's not like CA2 or t4 are high quality 1v1 maps.

Those have become really important since Spartie only needs 500 straight wins to overtake Rapha.

(knowing AGP the quake America duel cups will likely award a 100 points per win as opposed to the 4 in europe)

This is the same pool that Devastation announced, which may be an intentional overlap.

Their choice of each player picking a map is unusual, though.

devastation (no offense to them intended) don't have much of a clue, they just copy and pasted the quakecon ruleset.
i'm sure they are open and will change rules closer to the event. standard map pool will hopefully have changed by then anyway.

The regular mappool is quite unbalanced because there are two rl/lg heavy maps without a rail and no map without lg. Therefore, the mappool favours certain style of players alot. The pool was much more balanced in q3. Perhaps adding t4 and removing t9 could make it more interesting. In my opinion the unbalanced mappol is one of the main reasons why players like strenx are so dominant.

what is it that you dont like about t7? beside the water area at ra. i really enjoy playing it but most people seem to not like it (most of them havent played it much though)

its looks and plays like a shitty offspring of dm6/ztn and hub mixed together

on the other hand it has spawns that work kinda well with the current system and from ztn for example it has the ability for a player to get back into the game without fighting while it doesnt favor +back/defensive play so much

My opinion is right in the other direction on the spawns matter, like on dm6 your spawn gets forced all the time by your opponent, away from the next item so he doesn't even have to think anymore where or if to kill you. Since the guy has 2 seconds time anyway before you spawn he can just make 2 jumps and force you to spawn where you just died and thus he can take the next item unchallenged.
Also the map produced some of the most retarded first spawns i have ever seen.

And i won't start with the architecture of the map cause its a freaking mess imo, even tho it might look good. (Someone described it as hub after a meteor hit it, which seems fitting to me)

t7 looks nice but seems miserable to me. I think if it didn’t had ceiling would feel so much better.

the best map poll is how it is in gdata and zotac cup (dm6, tourney7, tourney9, ztn1 and dm13).

Money motivates people to play and to win. I know that playing randoms when you could be playing players at your level all day isn't exactly fun or something that dkt, rapha, DaHanG, chance, griffin, pl4gue, etc, think about.

QL.tv brought people to quake when people saw the crazy rails, the nice air shots and the high level of play and the first nine king of the hills were very good at the highest level. I urge that the players who are the strongest in the community participate in as much ways as possible because they are anchors. I know, I know... AGP and GGL has some of the worst possible ideas and ladders and gay shit that in the end makes them look unprofessional and like total fucking gimmicks, but if all of the top 30 duelists participate in this gay shit, we can take it to a whole new level, and maybe the AGP (and even, haha GGL) will be able to run prize money events or even LANs. League + High Level of Competition + Participation = Spectators = Profit

If you want this community to die, laugh at how terrifucking bad GGL and AGP run things and how this Quake America and the tehleet cup run stuff. In the end, you'll just make it another Alienware Arena incident, and convince eSports that QUAKE LIVE america has no potential or room to grow. I also recommend that the AGP rankings be removed. T'was a good idea if you think about it, but voting and giving the community power over a league via democracy leads to problems and people think AGP points are a joke. I don't know how AGP points can be relative especially in America.

I don't agree with most of what you said, but however I will say they FUCKED the spawns on T9. In an update they said that they altered the teles to prevent telefrags, yet I find I get telefragged MORE now. Before it was a rarity, now it's frequent.

You should respect everybody, unless they do something wrong (within reason). Dahang and Chance just like a map, it's not their fault it made their way into tournaments. If a tournament picks a map due to two players person preference, that's the tournaments fault, not theirs.

t6 seems pretty bad for a 1v1 map imo, but its quite decent for 2v2.

t6 is only superior to ca2 not the rest... already proven so many times that t6 is not suited for 1v1
1-1 score after 10 minutes and then 3 consecutive overtimes before it was decided by a 2-1 score. Come on

ca2 is not a duel map, it has no place in that pool. none.

t4/t6/t9 and dm6 are all fucking terrible and are not fun to play in any way. QL has been needing new maps for a long time now but it doesnt look like id will ever do anything about it.

with the new netcode i don't see why t4 shouldn't be back. i agree it was stupid while rails were hitting 5 hitboxes around the player.

for an online tourney which presumably has the purpose of stirring up the duel tournament scene in america, its stupid as hell to use the agp rankings as a basis for your seeds. the way the agp rankings are designed, u only get points if u place top 3 or 5 or whatever in online tournaments. so in effect ur saying anyone who isnt a top 10 player is going to be assigned a random seed. hardly the best way to go about running a tourney which is primarily meant to interest mid/high skill tier duelers.

honestly i understand that people think supporting agp is the cool thing to do just cos its contrary to the majority opinion but for once just fucking run a good tourney instead of pulling stupid shit like this.

but anyway criticism aside i do hope things work out. u should prolly also look into finding some sponsors for a smallish prize purse like the gdata cups.
