At GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, Turtle Entertainment (mother company of ESL) have announced the eSports Award winners. Among these awards, we saw various Quake related nominees, such as Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson as Breakthrough of the Year and also Sebastian 'Spart1e' Siira and Magnus 'fox' Olsson as Northern European Players of the Year.

Unfortunately, none of these players managed to grab an actual award, but Quake Live, the game itself, did manage to grab one award: eSports Game of the Year! With this, Quake Live has beaten FIFA 2009, Street Fighter IV, Left 4 Dead and Dawn of War 2.

Well, uh, this is embarrassing, but I just received word from Turtle Entertainment about some corrections re: this whole thing.

eSports 'Player of the Year' is in-fact Jaedong, not that pasty CS kid we originally announced! Sorry guys! Additionally, 'Call of Duty Player of the Year' is actually who gives a flying fuck? and 'Console Player of the Year' is areyoufuckkingkiddingmehalo3?

So, even though Street Fighter IV is a very solid game which had an amazing tourney last month with a shitton of players at EVO, they gave their GOTY award to QL, which is still "in beta" and is a shit port of a 10-year-old game.

quakecon was just as big as evo in terms of competition, its just any random can easily sign up for a sf4 tourney.
and the award looks like its european where theres no sf4 scene

SF4 is a piece of shit simpleton rock-paper-scissor game. The GUI for the PC version looks as if they spend 10 minutes on it. QuakeLive is an evolutionary fps-in-browser game.
