The start of the tournament will be delayed a little because the players still have problems with their computers. Seems like they all have Vista installed, and Vista and Quake 4 doesn't go together that well. :q

we were trying to keep everyone updated online but with everything running a bit behind and the "unstable"ness of Q4TV it wasn't possible with 16 servers :)

For all the Finals I shall try me best to get all Q4TV servers running for most if not all the games, except any that QuadV are running

also QuadV are win... ;)

<< Comment #69 @ 10:03 UTC, 11 November 2007 >>

By

AnthonyJ - Reply to #63

For previous tourneys, procyon, trax etc have a script which auto-restarts the q4tv's when the upstream server shuts down for a map change. Whoever is running the q4tv's might want to consider something similar next time I guess ;)

just have them uploads vod's thats a million times better than the stream promises that all these websites make for event big event...that never seem to fucking work ever. The best situation ive ever witnessed was one where the hosts just uploaded the vod's after the matches took place...i dont recall what site it was but it fucking rocked.

The event is a joke? I am not sure how that relates to anything associated to your issues...

Q4TV has been on for ALL of the games that werent already shown on quadv... You have a choice of what to watch and the staff at the events spent tireless hours setting them up for you with scorebots too. Its a sad day when you cant appreciate the work put in for you to get something for no payment...

Laggy streams? Welcome to the internet. The streams are fine from the output, so perhaps you have issues with a poor isp or perhaps the software you use needs configuring better, either way, there is a dedicated help team and we have had nothing from you regards a request for help to get you up and running. With thousands of people tuning in to all 3 streams and the feedback being great from the majority, this post is a little nonsesical. If you are having issues, by all means come and ask in #quadv for help and you will get it.

Plenty of people are enjoying the coverage, the games, the tournament and the event as a whole, I am sorry you arent, but Multiplay cant please everyone, especially those not even willing to ask for help.

<< Comment #92 @ 15:09 UTC, 11 November 2007 >>

By

FlyingDJ - Reply to #86

He has a point though with the stream being laggy when it comes to the picture. The stream itself is fine but when I watched the Cypher match today the frame rate was really going down when there was fast movement which made it look quite laggy.

By

Anonymous (c-3703e255.95-4-64736c11.cust.bredbandsbolaget.se) - Reply to #86

I wouldn't go as far as saying this event as a whole is a joke.

That Q4TV has been on for ALL games that weren't already shown on QUADV gives people a choice of what to watch. And I agree a choice is a good thing! I would even say a choice of how to watch a specific match (e.g with Q4TV or QUADV) is a good thing, now that laggy streams are a reality for whatever the reason might be; poor ISP or not. That choice we don't have. And that is why I think some people are disappointed.

NaAani - Reply to #86

The admins did great work considering how much work they had, if you people want to whine about a few q4tv's then come over and help fix q4tv yourselves.

just that i've heard of every other player on that list (cept cymozz and geo) BEFORE Q4 - and was curious where you'd come from since you seem to be doing so well...

peeps seemed to have reacted like im grumpy about it or something - take it easy guys! No big deal - I was only curious. I'll try not to ask questions in future! :)

this tourney started really boring, but things got really exciting in the double elimination phase peaking so far with epic games like Av3k vs toxic and Cypher vs DaHang.

it's a shame Q4 is pretty much done for. the gameplay is nice, the competition is nice.. the only thing annoying is the game visual design, but it doesn't matter.

i hope Quake Zero will be an improved Quake3 clone, like Quake4 was (more or less), but with the original graphic theme and moreso new maps.

I hope QZ gets on big tourneys, but I dunno. It will be really the BEST competitive FPS game compared to nowadays crap, but I dont know how big events will look at a free game when they have that crappy, fancy looking UT3 just released. Those bastards are all money.

Syncerror could come here and give us some fucking info on QZ instead of trying to hype the fuck out of the Quake community. Begining with: How about the LAN support? If we want to put QZ on big tournaments, it needs to be able to be launched totally offline (without needing an internet connection). You know, those things.

"that crappy, fancy looking UT3 just released"

you sound like an old woman. Gfx is what a game needs to get hardware sponsors. UT3 has done the fancy graphics very subtly, in a way that seems acceptable for "pro gamers". UT3 has gotten a very nice competitive following already in the beta. The core UT communities seem very happy, and several Quakers have spoken nicely about it too.

Who knows if it will succeed.. but it's looking good for UT3 so far. I hope QZ can do well too, but I personally don't think it sounds likely.

I accept nice graphics as long as the core gameplay doesn't suck massive donkey balls thanks to fucking with the engine (see Q4).

Way to ask nicely. =p

But in all seriousness, there are still a lot of questions because we cannot yet fully answer them - we're experimenting with new technology and ideas here. In the coming weeks maybe we'll be in a better position to release some new information.

Very cool tournament. It's a shame tho ppl at the event can't hear the commentary by QuadV ;) Few times only I heard Joe screaming from behind the curtain ;D

Maybe you should broadcast the commentary on the event and sell small radio's that could pick up the signal :D Or set up a whole booth with shoutcast, etc. ;)

I wonder is any of these possible :D Probably not ;)

Anyway, heading off to watch the final! There will be commentary at least ;) My money on av3k <3 :D

Procyon's website only contains the q4tv's if he's involved in running them. Multiplay ran their own Q4TV's, which is why they didnt show up there.

Its also why they didnt have trax's cunning script for auto-reconnecting the repeaters, i guess ;/

I32 was my first international Q4 LAN event, and I want to thank Garpy, Intel and Multiplay that they organized such a great tournament. All guys (especially the quake players) I met there were very nice people and I am really happy about the great time I had with them.
The tourney itself was well organized, although I didnt like the widescreens TFTs and Windows Vista caused some problems.
Greetings to every player or other quake-related people, who turned up and made this tournament possible and enjoyable.
A big 'Thank You!' to Weird, who shared his hotel room with me, to Naani, who helped me out with british money, when all banks were closed on Sunday and my team hoorai and our sponsors (XQ and Zotac), who paid the trip.

btw: garpy ran around with a usb stick collecting demos, i think he'll upload them soon
