Only two players remain, as the Global Gaming League brings you final round action of the 2003 WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne Alienware Playoffs. Matches have been fast and furious so far and there have been some really great comebacks, but also some surprise upsets along the way. This will mark the halfway point in the GGL's latest series of online competitions, with StarCraft: BroodWar and Descent 3 still remaining.
For top ranked (1) mTw-Ghostridah, getting through this WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne Tournament has been bittersweet to say the least. In his second match, he faced off against (4) Smurphet, but was quickly knocked down to the losers' bracket after dropping both the Two Rivers and Plunder Hill maps. Smurphet then was able to beat (7) rS.CareLess and move on to the winners' bracket finals. Meanwhile mTw-Ghostridah had his work cut out for him, as the next match had him playing (2) Kakashi859. This series went 2-0 for mTw-Ghostridah, as he won on Lost Temple and Plunder Isle. To secure a spot in the finals, mTw-Ghostridah now had to beat rS.CareLess who had just been defeated 2-0 by Smurphet as well. The map was Turtle Rock and mTw-Ghostridah pulled out a clutch win. He secured his finals appearance by winning Lost Temple - sweeping the series 2-0. For the second time in the past week, we have seen an upset match where the top seeded player is handed a tough loss, and from the losers' bracket can force a rematch for the finals.
The finals match has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 27th, at 10:30 P.M. Eastern time, 7:30 Pacific.
