if you have geforce gfx card, uninstall your driver and install the latest detonator driver (or the one previous to latest if you want to play it safe). Remove the refreshrate fix program and it "should" work...

This is the greatest game i've played for a long time. I've been hooked on it since the first time i tried it, if you haven't tested it yet i strongly suggest that you do!

Remember that this is just a demo and many bugs haven't yet been fixed. The game can only be played in 60Hz (this has already been solved for the final version).

I subscribed to Barrysworld and browsed the in-game server listings. BW (for me) are the lowest ping, and are excellent servers. I ping 29! Lowest ping i've ever had with my cable modem. It almost makes the hit scan bug acceptable.

Subscribe to Barrysworld if you have broadband (unless there is a nearer P2P GSP). European ping should be around 60 I should imagine, and the servers are currently just right.

There is always one... hehe any way to my points:-

ok started to play it aside from the bugs its new different enjoyable... however, then after a while it starts to get frustrating, the game is just (flame me) too big.

To play it properly you need 32 v 32 imo however that’s not even the tip of the ice berg, you need 32 players on one side playing TOGETHER!!! Instead of as on the servers at the moment 16 individuals running around a huge game not even realising they have team mates! Public server play is just to frustrating as if its not enough to have like so many different parts of the game to learn as if that wasn’t frustrating enough but you have to try and work with 15 other people who don’t understand the word team!

I think its a good game i love the idea but I believe it to be to team orientated. To get the most out of this game you need a minimum of 16 players all playing together on public servers you have no chance. And as for clans any one who has tried organising a clan for games that have teams of 5, 6 and 7 will know how hard it is to organise never mind trying to organise teams of 16 to 32 players!

One last side grumble EA! We have no chance if as with moh they take up the support and patching of the game after it is released. Why patch a game it don’t make them any money and everyone still is going to buy the next game they ship out... I’m sorry but the game is doomed. now speaking of doom... 4 players max ? !? !? ... Chess anyone?

Nah, they->ID have stated that the game can scale past 4 players in game. It's just not set in stone just yet.

You're talking about the demo map (Wake Island), which is one of the biggest maps on the game. The game has lots of smaller maps, gameplay is quite different on some (sea-only battles, city-only, etc), and many of them are really smaller, fit for just a few players.

PS: You don't need to be all defensive thinking everybody will hate your opinion or start flaming you just because you have a different taste, opinion, or point of view.

not very good? you really are in a very small minority who actually think that. I haven't had so much fun with an online game in years, and thats pretty amazing considering its only the demo still.

I personally don't think there will be a huge serious competative clan scene though, the player requirements are just too high. it's bad enough trying to get 5 or 6 people to turn up on time, let alone 10-16 that would br required in BF.

And as for the publics being disorganised well I guess thats fair point, but I'm suprised actually just how often parts of a team will cooperate and pull of some quite coordinated attacks, and this will only improve over time.

heh, a german gaming tv show linked this article on thier website(http://www1.giga.de/stories_u4/0,3204,41068,00.html) and tried some of the profi tricks in the show.
it was quite amusing, especially a take where one of the both, standing at a aircraft carrier and holding down the enter key, tried to get in the plane of his mate while the guy was 'hedge-hopping'(correct word? he flew very low), but he's not a good pilot it seems, missed his pal and crashed in the second plane on the flattop where everything ended up in a big fireball :D

Greatest game ever....

BF1942 is a great game, very fun and nice to play, period. It has everything that makes a game NOT be competitive, though (needs many players, is based more on opportunity and class advantages given a certain situation than most FPS's); which it's not bad, it is just a great game and that's all.

It's a game that you can't play very seriously, or else you'll get all pissed with your team for not taking the flag/defending the base/stop plane camping/pickup/whatever. If you play for fun, though, it's a blast. Learning the game is very funny indeed, when you see something new (for example, 5 people riding a jeep at the same time then a plane drops a bomb on it killing everybody) you think "OMG! Did you see that? ROFL" or when you die because of some kamikazi pilot.

Netcode/hitscan isn't as accurate as say, Quake 3. It's much like C&C Renegade (only a little better), but that's ok.

This will never be a "pr0 game" (thank godness), but it is the funniest game for ages, and it's anti realism makes it able to do the strangest and funniest things, and every day you find new things to try out. If there was a demo recording function, my hd would already be full (a feature that, nontheless, has to be implemented)! Played at most at a semi serious manner, this game is simply a blast! FFA is mostly a pain though, but hopefully someday ppl will stop killing team members for taking a plane they had been waiting for (along with more or less the rest of the team, all running about shooting down their own planes on that hangar, while the others are soaring in the sky while you yourself desperately tries to have them realising the game is about capturing control points on the god damn ground! "Get a respawnpoint ffs!!!"). So please don't turn this game down because of bad manners by headless goons on some servers, make sure you find a good one.

BTW, it's a nice article, although some information is a bit innacurate (F9 is not "turn off hud" but rather 1st person view - pressing it twice toogles hud though, but it's part of the f9/f10/f11/12 camera display). Also, you're using your keys to describe actions. Remember people tweak the keyboard combinations on their games. When you said "use your right mouse button to take down people from tanks" I though for a brief second "wth?" until I noticed you meant "use your alternate fire button".

All I have to say is that so many people already love this game. But wont give it a chance competivily because of the size. This to me seems dumb. The competitive standard use to be 4v4 in the quake games. The games like sof2, cs, rtcw and moh came along and they needed like 8vs8 to have good matches. This was twice as many players as in the past.
Now this new game comes out and it needs about 10 vs 10 to be good competition. (2 people cover each base. Seems good). I even have alot of fun playing 2v2 on the demo map... Its a h00t.
I think this could be one of the best competitive games ever. With demos being more like movies than just watching some guy play. Since the game will be so much more complex with all the vehicles and weapons. But just because the top clans of the present wont move on to play it, either will the competition. Because that is how things work in the gaming community now and it really sucks.
Take a look at Medal Of Honor. It's the 3rd most played game yet it's competition scene is nothing and I think this is because none of the big name cpl (and other big name tournies) teams didnt play it.

So as long as the big clans control the online gaming scene. Gaming will be stuck in slow motion for a while.

Despite having a 512 connection and managing to get connected to a blueyonder (****holes) server, this game lags so much that my ammo counter actually goes UP when I fire sometimes.

Such a shame as it initially seemed such a promising game, but I simply can't be bothered to find a way to get faulty software to work anymore. And yes, it is the software, not my machine.

Well keep in mind it is the demo. Most demos are supper buggy. If you recall demos like the RTCW demo. The ping sucked and it was laggy to.
Personaly I dont have to much trouble with bf1942 on my cable. I get ping from 20-50 most of the time and the lag is reasonable for a demo. Plus they plan to patch the demo soon and fix some things.

Game totally sucks. Sucky engine, sucky netcode, awful gameplay. Feels like trying to ride a lawnmower on stones..... Got some nice stuff like planes though.

The game is incredibly fun, but they seriously have a lot of work to do on the netcode. It's at the moment almost impossible to be good with the sniper rifle, i even shot at enemies that were standing still and it didn't hit, wtf?! :( Also close-combat is suffering with the netcode issues at the moment..

apart from that the game is great and it even runs on my old computer :]

rep they released a demo patch a few days ago. It made it a bit more stable. Also keep in mind it is just the demo. Demos are almost always unstable
