Nobody is denying that better technology can be achieved, the point is it isn't going to affect your game above even 1% of it in REAL WORLD TERMS. If you think your mouse is holding you back maybe you need to go talk to def (best NA qw player on a serial mouse), ZeRo4 (won $100k+ on ball mouse) or steel (first cs wcg and cpl winner, all on a ball mouse)

There are bad mice and there are good mice, as long as the mouse itself was made in the last 3 years and it tracks without problems I'd challenge anyone who isn't just making excuses to explain how Hz was holding their game back.

The best NA QW dueler isn't def, it's KovaaK, and KovaaK used to use a Copperhead and now uses a Logitech G3.

I agree with you, though. I'm just saying, if one mouse is NOTABLY MUCH SMOOTHER and TRACKS BETTER than OTHER MICE and has LESS NEGATIVE ACCELERATION, what's the harm in upgrading?

EDIT: I'd also like to add that in def's config pack readme, he highly recommends overclocking the polling rate to 500 hz and even provides a link to a polling rate overclocking tool.

I'm also pretty sure he doesn't use a serial mouse anymore, or at least pretty sure he didn't at the time of his writing of his readme.

That statement says nothing of today, and tbh since kovaak isn't entered in the upcoming qw duel tournament I'd imagine def is back at the top of the tree.

If def now overclocks his Hz that pretty much solidifies my point that it isn't a big deal, now that he is at the top of his game the only variables are going to be small things like that and ping as far as his performance goes. For any non-godlike player chances are you'd be better served spending hours practicing than investigating every possible computer tweak, not least since if you ever plan on entering a CPL-type tournament you won't be able to use it.

Okay, that's all fine and dandy. We all know that people are capable of raping despite inferior hardware. However, things have been upgraded a lot now, and most people have upgraded their hardware. QW is a game that pretty much REQUIRES polling rate overclocking nowadays in order to compete at a high level (really, QW feels like absolute shit at the default polling rate).

And as for def being back at the top - if cyan's in the tournament you definitely can't count him out quite yet.

Hz or polling rate, is the best innovation for smoothness.
However, in a fast paced game like Quake or Ut the gains are so small they are irrelevant, unless you're easily fooled. Hence your 1%

however, for slower paced games like Cs where sniping plays a big part it it more beneficial to have a high polling mouse because the crosshair is less jumpy and the speed of the game is slow enough to take advantage of that extra accuracy.

though if you suck at games a good mouse wont make you better.

DPI is a little maligned, the mouse companies promote is as being the bestest thing ever which having used a G5 I'd agree is true (the smoothness is great for aim) IF all the other things worked: 1000hz and no skipping/freaking out/negative accel. Sadly the G5 fails on the 2nd and 3rd of those as well as build quality.

a brilliant player can beat someone simply by outsmarting him, what mouse he has doesnt really matter in that case. the point here is basically, would a better mouse improve THEIR game? the answer is yes.

I have the 5L, and I must say a thin qpad does the same job (cloth with hard feel). It's cheaper and it glides better aswell. Plus it's even larger I think.

I've actually purchased a cheap 40cm x 30cm pad that's the best for my current sens (35cm/360) - looks like the 5L's going into the closet as a backup, as I've bought 4 more of this cheap pad, haha.

2) whats it like for gaming? did u have to readjust ur hand movements etc when u bought this over ur previous keyboard? what is ur current key setup in quake? im using ijkl, do you think id have to move back to the left half of the keyb if i used this keyboard (not that id mind)?

3) size? does it hoard ur desk too much or is it appropriate given the ergonomics?

4) can it jerk you off for free?

5) does it get dirty, are the gaps between the keys wide and does lots of shit accumulate in there?

The keyboard takes up a good 50cm lengthwise, 25cm front to back, and the wrist rest is raised 7cm off the desk. The board is pretty big, but it's very comfortable.

Using ijkl wouldn't work on this board, but ESDF (the sweet spot for comortable ergonomics) and WASD (slightly more cramped than the former) work great. A plus for using ESDF is that you can reach both the B and "back" buttons easily with your thumb, so you have a lot of buttons at your disposal. It doesn't require very much adapation, but it's definitely worth it. My hand used to get cold using my Logitech Access, but now it stays warm.

The buttons feel a *tad* mushy, but not enough to cause problems with anything.

It can get dirty, but it's easy to clean. The tops of the keys are smaller than their bases, so you can easily fit a q-tip or whatever between them enough to wipe dust away.

Doesn't jerk you off for free.

The keyboard never makes my PC speaker beep (but that may not even work if the KBD is hooked up thry USB), but the keyboard does have ghosting problems, while there is no maximum amount of keys you can press. I can press down E,S,D,F,A,V and all of them work, but E,F,5 doesn't. The only one that I've figured out that doesn't require finger twister is: most keys in the left bank, Z, and Space. Look at my config in my profile, and all I have trouble doing is doing a walking jump.

To be perfectly honest the HD280pros are better for both. The HD570s aren't too bad, but they are hard to drive. Personally I like the sound of the 280s for music better and the isolation for competitive gaming is simply great.

Don't buy the 570 above 50 € or thereabouts, more than that is a bit of a ripoff :|

about mouse hz affecting your game...

it DEFINITELY has a HUGE impact if you're a low sensitivity user. my sensitivity is 360°/55cm, and with mx300 @ 125hz if i move the mouse across the whole pad as fast as i can, i turn a bit less than 180°. @ 250hz its around 270° and @ 500hz its a perfect 360°.

of course for high sensitivity users its also a big difference, since a higher hz makes the mouse move smoother.

well i've experienced negative accel only once when i was using com_maxfps 15 on purpose :P it took me about 2 months to get COMPLETELY comfortable with the shape, the first 2 weeks my pinky was mad at me, the only downside (if you're a mid-high sens player ) it's the max tracking height of the sensor

I was gonna get a 5Hv2 recently but changed my mind at the last minute. How are they for gaming/music?

They are flat, and crystal clear. Perfect for gaming. For music however, they are not that good. Due to their flat nature, there is less bass than the Icemat Siberia for example (but more pitch).

They feel however rock solid, and very very comfortable. Probably more comfortable than the Icemat Siberia, and for sure more comfortable than the PC160.

Also, the mic is very good in quality, and also durable.

I must say, I am impressed. When my exams for uni are over, I'll do a full review with pictures of it.

I give it a 8/10 in general
7/10 for music purpose
9/10 for gaming purpose

[+] for the heads up. Good thing I changed my mind, I wanted a pair that could drive some significant bass and clear/flat highs. The Altec Lansing AHS515s I got fit the bill perfectly, and I got them dirt cheap too (equivalent of about $30 USD).

But yeah, I'll look forward to that review. :>

Are the Everglide s500's any good?

i like them pretty much, decent comfort for a non behind the neck pair of the headphones, when i pump up the volume via the x-fi front panel notice a distinct difference between this set and other heaphones that cost 20-30$, while playing music they sound kinda "flat" but still pretty acceptable, but if i turn on cmss 3d and crystalizer the vocals in most of my mp3s sound a little weird, played last night some cod2 and i've found the positional audio reliable :)

another update :

I've recently replaced my g-1000 with a mx518, its sticky surface annoys me now and then,i'm not accustomed to that gay grip 100% yet,time will tell if it proves itself a better mouse than the g-1000, i've also tried to replace my titan with an eyepad XL which i bought during the summer as a "backup" pad to use while my titan was still wet :P, well that combo didn't work quite well (g-1000 + eyepad XL works better but thickness remains an issue ) so i'm back to my lovely titan <3, i've also also tried to use logitech internet chat headset instead of my s-500, it was a total joke so i'm back to my s-500 as well :)

My f900p is kinda fucked and i'm waiting for LG to replace it :(, replaced that t-1000 with a 9$ scythe keyboard http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index....ts_id=4361 ,it has the same problem with up arrow + left arrow + space(damn ....) , so far i hate it :P , thinking of going back to t-1000 .....
