Sunday Evening

Well, it could have ended, but ... it didn't. CXG shut down the network so the remaining 3 players could not finish the final games. Cooller had qualified for the Grand Final, where he was supposed to meet either Zero4 or elpajuo, but unfortunately this won't happen :(.

Sunday Morning

Delays have been the keyword this long night. However, thanks to Trillian and the rest of iTG group it has been quite enjoyable. All of the group games have actually been played. The biggest upset so far is probably elpajuo's victory over Zero4, 2:1 in maps.

After more delays the groups have finally been announced and play looks set to kick off at 14:00 CST, 10 January 2004. The groups have produced some interesting early clashes, especially with only two players advancing from each pool. Wheat is currently interviewing a few of the players live on iTG (check the links page).

Friday Evening

In an inauspicious start to the tournament, the Quake 3 competition has been delayed until tomorrow whilst Cyber X attempt to replace the inadequate LCD monitors with CRT. With all those sponsors you'd hope they can.

The GTV issues hardly sound promising either. Let's hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Pre-tournament

CyberX announced Quake3 1v1 as an official tournament game very late. However most of the top American players are there and top Russian duel players death and Cooller are also in attendance.

The seeds have just been released and gotFrag have already written a small preview about the Quake3 tourney, which you can read from here.

Preview:

The favourite:
The Russian top duellist Cooller is without a doubt my favourite but also the favourite of many other people, he have proved at ESWC that he is one hell of a player. Cooller also showed that he is better player then uNkind in the ASUS open. Cooller had one hell of a year in 2003, he won the Swedish lan QLAN and after that he also won ES WorldCup. It was a big dissapointment that this Russian top player couldnt play at QuakeCon, a lot of europeans were there. Now he finally have his American visa which brought him in to USA for the cyberXgaming Quake3 1v1 tournament.

My expections from Cooller are very high, Lexx from Cyberfight told me that he havent pracced much. Question that follows, how will this affect the Russian top duelist? My thoughts are that Cooller doesnt need that much practice to perform well, around WCG 2002 he pracced 24/7, also around ESWC and I dont really think that the less practice will affect this Russian kid. He's a top player, full with talent and experiences, his aim is as always amazing and I am expecting a lot of this player.

The home player:
ZeRo4 is pretty much playing home now, playing in his own country but there are more Americans.. Well ZeRo4 is without a doubt Americans best player for about 2 years now, year after year he have showed that he always do well. Last summer, in August he won for the third time QuakeCon and before that he ended second at ESWC 2003.
ESWC 2003 was one of the hardest q3 tournaments ever, he had to give more then at any other events.Will he take the first place?

American oldschool
Paul "czm" Nelson, signed up as Ultruno, he is one of the most experienced players and most oldschool players of this tournament. The player from clan Kapitol made a sort of comeback last summer when he won online tourneys such as "STFU and PLAY" and ended on a very nice third place at QuakeCon 2003. In September he also won the first lan of GGL, he played cha0ticz in the final and won that game.

I am very happy to see czm at this event, when I just joined the Q3 scene as a player, I really liked the playing style of him, hes an agressive player which makes it a lot of fun to watch his games.

Russian oldschool
Hes not seeded in the top5, death, but he is attending an American tournament for the first time in his Quake3 gaming career.
death made his international debute at CPL Holland, which was in May 2001. At that event he defeated many top players like

sl1nger,

Aim,

PELE,

LakermaN and also at that moment Americans best duelist, fatal1ty. He came there as newcomer and won, since then death is known as one of Russians best duel players. .
Last summer he was invited by ESWC, but he didnt made it to second group stage. How will this Russian top player perform now vs the many Americans ?

If they meet again, howmany times did they played eachother in a official match then ? Well I dont really know the exact number but they've met eachother a lot and always showed some great games.
The funny thing is, they've met eachother in three diffrent modes/games as well. In UT2003, Quake3 CPMa 1v1 and ofcourse Quake3 1v1.
