Day 1: Thursday
Yay Dreamhack! Skipped my seminar at uni to get some sleep before Dreamhack, and then quickly put my stuff together to head towards the train station. As I'm living only 2.5h from Jönköping for the moment it wasn't going to be the longest journey ever. I almost missed the train as Swedish trains seem actually punctual or even early (hello German train system), and I got all excited talking about DH to a friend that I met on the way downstairs and almost forgot time.
Anyway, made it on the train and enjoyed my seat at the window to catch some more of the atmosphere that you have in Swedish winters. This was soon over though as it gets dark really early around this time of the year, it's already pitch black at 4pm in the afternoon.
Once I arrived at the event, I had some trouble getting in as I only registered for the tournament and not the usual BYOC area that is the majority of DH. But our tournament admin blaze was nice enough to quickly get my player badge sorted.
At the tournament area I already recognised a few of the famous VQ3 players that everybody knows from galleries all over the web, and our very own voodoochopsticks for, well, obvious reasons. :>
Said hello to fox as well and immediately left again with the Swedes, Jibo and toxter to have dinner at a top secret kebab shop recommended by fox.
They all turned out to be nice and outgoing guys, talked a lot about all sorts of stuff and left after a decent kebab with chips and salad. fox took us back to the event with the car that he rent to come to DH along with chop, jibo and pod1, and we headed back to the tournament area right after.
Some were still playing their group matches or just finished, while I wasn't supposed to get any tournament adrenaline until the next day. Still I managed to steal a keyboard from the CS machines and set up the rest of my stuff to get a few duels going with toxter and some 2v2 action with pod1, xrg and toxter. It was weird to adapt to a new setup but it's been the same for most CPMers I guess, and even though I got used to play on Swedish connections LAN ping would give you that extra edge in aim which felt nice.
Later on we spent the rest of the day walking around at the event, have a look at this and that, get some food every now and then, and eventually xrg and myself headed towards the huge sleeping hall of Dreamhack.

xrg was smart enough to break the cylinder in his lock at home so he couldn't bring any sort of sleeping back or air mattress, and he ended up just lying on the floor covered with his jacket. I struggled to pump up that §$%/$%/ of an air mattress I stole from my sister but at least I got my sleeping bag with me. xrg couldn't sleep so we just kept talking for like an hour, getting all the others a tad upset but whatever. xrg claimed he got to see some boobies when some girl changed clothes for the night, and that probably did the trick to get him asleep after all.
