For some the competative element is more than others and i think here is where we reach the confusion within the community. For the majority they play because they enjoy it, it's something to do, which is why you get a large amount of people playing before they leave to go to uni, then while at uni their activity deminishes. But hobby doesn't sound cool, it's not hip and new. We've recently seen the departure of Vo0 from "pro-gaming" to concentrate on his studies. A wise move in my opinion as there are far more job opportunities and job security in an established environment although without those initial risk takers then there would be little innovation. A healthy balance in my eyes is to do what Vo0 and lauke have done, take a year out for gaming, then return to whatever they wish to do. Be it full time employment or educaton whatever takes your fancy, but i will be covering this in a later chapter.. This was highlighted for me in a reply on this very site when i questioned the GGL bank balance, as i believed it to be huge due to the amount of aquisitions they were making.in ESR by a GGL employee who had only just been paid for the past couple of months when i broached the finances of GGL (due to the massive company aquisitions).
