Ive just completed Doom 1993 again and starting Doom2.

For the first time i focused on level design and holy shit, at least the first 6 levels of Doom2 blow the shit out of original Doom level design.

I think that the same way NDA was lifted too early and the closed beta ended too early (because you can call it closed all you want but if anyone can grab a key its not closed anymore), theyre going open forums too early.

Due to current stuttering issue when playing more than 3 or 4 matches, when a match ends, dont wait for the menu to load and do a clean quit, just touch alt-f4 when game starts to load menu and it will quit instantly.

Ive been messing with Blender and some time ago Unity, but right now im downloading ue4 cause im hyped as fuck. Maybe its time to stop playing games and start doing something, or at least play less and create more.

Im suffering a crisis. I stopped playing quakelive bc i cant stand being forced to play with a gay announcer, im currently messing a little with reflex and qw, but im being unable to get hooked to any game right now. Upgraded my cpu/mem last year (i5-4570, 8g ram), and two weeks ago i bought a 750 SC. Ive bought/downloaded a lot of games recently, but im failing to get hooked to them. Even playing games i enjoyed a lot some years ago but stopped playing because of x motives, like bc hardware not good enough to play at max settings, example Oblivion, i installed it again, maxed graphics, downloadad hi res pack, but it feels empty like the rest of the games i try.

For some reason my suspension of disbelief is failing. Example: I get close to textures, no mater the game if you get close enough you see the texture pixels, and it makes me sad. Im afraid im maturing at 37 years old and these games are starting to feel empty. That or my perfectionist side has become too demanding. We are in 2015, more than 10 years has passed since doom3 (which was the last game that made me crazy happy with its graphic improvements for the time) and i just see minor improvements in games. Dying Light for example, it has great graphics, but you still see pixels if you get close to things and the animations are good but nothing revolutionary.

Guys, im having a blast playing quakeworld. You need to spend some days to adapt to the different pace etc from quakelive, but man once you do, it becomes so much fun! non stop action.

Also no one will change its sounds (VO cough cough), gameplay (loadouts, lg 7 to 6, etc). You feel like youre playing a really stable, rock solid game, that will be available forever and ever!

Theres a crazy proxy funcionality included in quakeworld, thanks to which for example i can play with 60ms with chile and brazil, when with quakelive its 180. They are testing some servers in Panama too, so NA and SA players can playing with even (aprox 100ms) ping. And best part, its totally automatic! The fucking game searches the best routes with the proxys availables and connects you thru them.

With all the gay stuff and uncertainity going around quakelive today, quakeworld feels hardcore as fuck. I feel ive changed to a more skilled, solid and fun game. Feels nice to be a gamer again.

Today playing some qw with the awesome server setup in southamerica and proxy native support of qw, we briefly talked about reflex. They asked me if its gonna natively support proxys in servers/clients like qw does. I think it would be great for people that otherwise would be unable to play together due to ping.

Since the steam release, the Argentinan servers dont appear 90% of the time in the QL match browser. Also the chat doesnt always work, showing 0 contacts. You can still do a /connect ip:port so the actual servers are online and working ok, unless the chat isnt working then it stays on awaiting challenge/auth, its like the auth server is so bugged or overloaded that sometimes it just wont work. Ofc most players stopped playing cause they dont see any server on the server list so they think its down, also not everybody is fan enough to try more than 50 ports to find a suitable game in the mod/map you want, cause customs servers arent working. Its like going back to the stone age... Most of those servers are bugged also with the Sarge model autochange, god i hate that bug, and the random kicking bug at the start of matches. This is a clusterfuck of epic proportions. Its incredible how much we love this game to keep playing with all these problems.

I chatted with sponge about this on irc some days ago, he told me its a problem of the connections "down there", funny it worked perfectly till the steam update, and all the other games that are hosted on that datacenter and goes through the same cable dont have any issues. I think hes either lying or clueless because as i said everything else is working ok on the dataserver. I know a lot of pro subscribers that only play on those servers and are mad as hell, this is so crazy they release something to grow but instead they generate serious disappointment. Im so disappointed that for the first time im starting to play quakeworld, because lets be honest qw is uber hardcore and has that nostalgia feeling, also the high res textures are nice. And the best part i dont depend on mediocre staff.

Make it happen, the weapons being the closest thing you see have the best work/visual-impact ratio you can make for the game (not much textures to work blablah)

Seeing my initiative to create a community based portal for quake4 didnt got much attention, i got another idea for achieving the same goal in a different way.

id could integrate in a not distant future a quake4 option in quakelive. And maybe in the future, if it ever becomes released, quake5??? You utilize the same friends, chat, portal etc that you have running.

Hi guys, im kind of nervous with all the recent changes, normally im a total fanboy who tries to keep playing no matter whatever happens, but some of the latest changes are making my fanboy side transform into a hater, and i dont want to hate.

Quake4 is a damn fine game and has much better gfx than QL which is a good point for possible newcomers. And we know that they wont be releasing crappy patches anytime soon.

Also its been like 6 years since QL started, one of the main reasons why id chose quake3 was that at that time it could run in most PCs, i would say that 6 years later Q4 could run in most PCs too.

id is clearly shitting on the hardcore fanbase with the recent forced changes, the VO being something that totally ruins my experience, instead of playing a hardcore game i feel im babysitting robots, fuck that.

So why not we, the hardcore fans, make something about it? I know it would be a lot of work and we would need to raise some money, the idea being creating a community portal similar to the QL one, were we could add friends, browse servers according to location, etc.

I think it would be worth the effort, mainly because we can be completely sure id wont be able to do shit about it. Q4max development could be resumed to accomodate possible bugfixes etc, new maps could be made without having to pass id software approval, we would have more freedom again!

One friend is selling his asus b85-m mobo with i5 4570 and 8gb ddr 1600 for a really interesting price.

Now i have a Q8300 with 4gb ddr800.

Vga card would stay (ati 5750) cause 3 years later with the same money i bought it, i can buy a card which is only 10% faster, which i find outrageous.

Do you think its worth the upgrade? Would it make a big differences in maps known to suffer from fps drops? Would it help postprocessing taking a smaller hit on performance just changing cpu mobo and memo? Or do you think theres a high probability this new setup could give me those sad unexplained fps drops/hitchs that many people suffer with QL with and newer hardware?

Based on a recent topic by Emenike who is too stubborn to see his twitch subscription fund based and spectator locking idea is bad, im creating this topic.

Basically the idea is first of all get some of the DH admins to greenlight a possible QL tourney where they help us with the infrastructure (place, PCs, monitors, etc). If this happens, next step would be getting Memento to start a paypal donation where the $$$ for the prize pool is raised. Meanwhile we could contact possible sponsors to donate hardware or money to make the prizepool better.

Having only Quakecon as a big lan tourney seems not enough for the amazing top players this community has and theres plenty of time ahead.

Lets start with your contenders to the title.

What about creating one pool for all donations, and each donator gets to vote one player (with a minimum requirement so to avoid $1 donator trolls voting many times, also for each x ammount of money you donate, you get to vote another player). Then according to the amount colected the players with more votes get the moneyz. If some player for x reason cant or wont go, next most voted player takes his place. I think we should set a fixed ammount of help, like $2000 or something, rest should be covered by player or sponsors.

If theres a DH, we can do the same for american players.

If theres a good purpose to invest in quake, apart from supporting the game, its helping elite players going to events.

Ended being a good thing. No more "stream need cooller" to pump viewers, faceit zoot doing solid numbers, not mindblowing but basically better than what most cups having cooller last year did (special events like legends cup dont apply). Evil Cypher being a great rivalry helps a lot too. Some quake millonarie should hire RAPHANG to live and play in europe and were set :) Im seeing a small but steady increase in my region of duel servers with rookie players, which is a very good sign too.

Reading the comments on the analog clock thread, ive realized something. It would be very cool to have ie an unranked duel mode, where you have item timers, spawns are marked, and all kind of help that we can give guys trying to evolve from basic ca gameplay. Also available on practice mode, and why not optional on warmup? Visual clues are so common today in most games, and some of the code is already done, like the item timers. We arent changing duel, just helping people understand better what is happening before they try to ready up.

Maybe it could be implemented in ctf and tdm, but i see duel as the clear mode for a player trying to transition into full quake skillset. And anyway team modes requires so much that at that point you already shouldnt be needing newbie mode anymore. The implementation can vary, but the objective must be clear, like in every activity helping the newcomers with what we already know, propels their path towards places we couldnt even dream before like today is omgomg C Y P H E R.

edit: another prolly not so hard to implement feature imo is what i posted some time ago, armors and mega on the map on warmup(optional), practice(optional) and newbie mode doesnt disappear when taken, they become like 25% transparency of normal item.

Reading other thread about the hard aspect of newbs understanding item control, it could be addded a modifier in custom unranked games/practice games/even a ???new-standard-mode-for-practice??? and wherever else it could help... this:

Items always visible, yep thruwall too like the yellow triangles of teammates, and when you pick them the item its replaced by a counter that displays the time left for it to appear again, which you also can see from any part of the map. When the time is up, the counter is replaced by the spawning item.

My good old 19" CRT LG Flatron started to fail on the weekend, so yesterday i decided to buy my first LCD. After seeing many reviewes i bought the Viewsonic vx2268wm for u$s 318.

It fucking rox!!! Didnt noticed a significant difference in input lag but the resolution improved noticiably compared to the 5 years old refurbished CRT. Also the bigger screen and resolution improves the viewing angle so i can see more shit. While maintaining the 120hz refresh rate :_)

I have to say that in my opinion when a map aquires certain degree of playing time it should stay evah. It becomes a classic, a must learn in the path to quake excelence. Examples being dm6, ztn, t4, hub and dm13. Then yes rotating maps, that may eventually become part of the list. 2 rotating maps like t9 and my other personal chose would be prantic, fun map. But i dont care as much of the new maps chosen, as to not kill classics stupid! So diversity is added, but the ones you already studied hard are there too. In some time maybe there would be 7 static maps plus 2 rotating for a total of 9 in the maplist.
