Got some weird skin thing on my knee, should I get it checked out?

Also wasn’t it cool back when we just hit a few keys in a row to communicate in game via text? Pretty sure that’s what I spent most of my time thinking about while getting driven home from middle school

But back to the skin issue. Think it’s related to this time I fell in that gravel parking lot in Neely, Alaska while running in flip flops and scraped my knee real bad. Not sure tho, cuz that was like 18 years ago

Kinda scary, whichever side you're on, if you don't see the severity of a company like google doing this, you're one of the bad guys..

Wonder how long it will take until they start editing your emails, whatapp and creating sinister simulations of your browsing history to frame you as whatever they want.

project velocity is officialy dead, blaming DoS attacks (20 comments)
Posted by hc @ 07:06 CDT, 26 March 2024 - iMsg
Just found on r/quakelive: https://old.reddit.com/r/QuakeLive/comments/1...abandoned/

Some dude quoted their discord:

Hi @everyone I've spent some time organizing my thoughts around the future of Project Velocity and our role in the Quake Esports space. Over the past 6 months we've spent countless hours creating a brand and product that captured the essence of the AFPS experience, thanks to <@&1171941457976905778> <@474545543784169482> <@539930087496351759> <@761697558648324156> and <@518268101218009120> <@101829452719198208> <@111593347063263232> and <@359426104760729602> we achieved something remarkable in our short time here in the Quake scene. Our vision was always a bold and creative one, one that combined the sounds and sights of the earlier days of gaming into a modern package that could attract new viewers into the AFPS space. While we were able to pivot around and more or less secure the Project Velocity tournament servers, it was widely known that the attacker spread his efforts into other community servers and impacted play for hundreds of players. The AFPS space is too small for us to try and force a round peg into a square hole - if the security of Quake Live is not conducive to rebuilding a healthy player base, then I see no reason to pour resources into a space that is so easily jeopardized. Project Velocity was entirely funded out of my own pocket, and while I was happy to do so I also have a family that have an obligation to make wise life decisions on behalf of. I do not see a world in which I can confidently sell sponsorship offerings into a league that faces constant attacks. Unfortunately, Quake Live servers are some of the flimsiest game servers I've ever come across. Frustrated is an understatement - I poured my heart into soul into organizing a project that I held so close to my heart. For now, we will keep the Project Velocity Discord server alive in the event of our return. With somewhat credible rumors of Quake 6 in the mix, we are keeping our eye on the franchise and will happily return in the event that we feel we can provide value to the community. Thank you to the thousands of players who tuned in, our incredible <@&1193666215974019173> and <@&1172304310504259604> for allowing us to explore the option of dedicated servers. We will always be rooting for the AFPS space, and will always remain a fan of the genre 🙂

that's all folks

duel, tdm and ctf.

ctf only in cpm tho, because vq3ctf is a boring piece of shit.

the outstanding skill of some of the cpmctf (and ntf) players of the past and present is just a pleasure to watch. but that's another topic i guess.

I'm not denying his aim and performance in this demo but majority of the tracking was just matched strafe patterns, much easier when the person shooting you isn't even dodging you.

I think all the ffa matches were good from that quakecon with the top players.

yes, organized ca is very different from pub games (unless you're lucky enough to play with proper people).

organized ca can also be very very slow at times... some games take camping to the next level beyond anything you ever saw in cs :p

Optimal VQ3 is getting a 1 frag lead and then playing hardcore +back. The reason you see any success with other strategies is because so few people are willing to play optimal since it's extremely boring to execute, extremely boring to watch, and considered cheesy.

no, it isn't.

Not even rapha is backing with a one frag lead.
I know you will simply assume to be smarter than all the top-players combined and that you have it all figured out. Don't you think at least one of them, would have thought of that "strategy" by now, after playing the game for ten years, especially considering that if22 played like that.

Don't you think there is a reason why none of them choose to +back with a one frag lead (if it isn't for the last 2 minutes or so)?
Could it be that they know through experience (experience, that you most likely lack completely) that it doesn't work out?

You know like the danger of losing to game due to being ambushed when going for an armor just once and then losing control.
Sure, it's better to play it safe, but only in your head does that lead to the conclusion that capitalizing on a big armor/health stack by fragging someone in an opportune moment.

Actually, I've won quite a bit in local LAN tourneys. I've participated in DFWFrag numerous times, and I was offered full sponsorship by TPi to play Quake 4 when it first came out.

The common sense that I have which enabled me to turn down such an offer is the same one that helps me to educate you on employing the proper strategy in Quake.

ahaha, you see the common sense that get payed to play quake isn't a good career choice as some kind of achievement then enables to do anything? Hilarious.

I won a local rtcw lan, yet never even indulged in the plan to play for money. I guess that enables me to teach you even more? This is too funny :D

No, you are trying to establish some sort of superiority, because you made a decision 95% of all people would have made.

The fact that no other players, with much more experience in quake seem to share your opinion about the "optimal strategy" really does tell me something, though.
Having seen players being surprised when playing +back in games countless times, which in your case would lead to a tie and possibly control of the opponent, tells me another.

I'm trying to explain to you that the choice to play in a tournament has absolutely nothing to do with one's knowledge of the finer details of the game. The fact that these players do waste their time in these tournaments just shows you how suspect their opinions and decisions are.

It's kinda like when you try to have a discussion. You have a lot of problems reading and understanding the language, but it doesn't stop you from trying to participate. Sadly, participation has nothing to do with knowledge.
By Beer! becks - Reply to #52
Of course the choice has nothing to with it.

However, the ability to beat all others does hint that they do have a finer understanding than someone who one a few local lans.

Even more importantly, the decision to stop playing a game, gives no information at all about someones understanding. Sorry, to disappoint you there.

The decision was to NOT play the game as a job. It wasn't to stop playing the game.

whatever, the point is the same.
And you know it, which is way you went to your usual last resort "You have trouble understanding the language".
It's quite interesting, that there only two people who repeatedly say that about me: You and tourist.

And always when I happen to disagree with you.

going by the same logic, shudn't your stupidity cancels yours?
and since the magnitude is much greater, your opinion should be forever banned from any public forums.

Even IF I had been displaying stupidity (which I didn't), you wouldn't know. Keep trying to tell yourself that VQ3 is rocket science.

Slightly off topic: I would love to see another pk style tour or a league tour for ql. The skill level of that game got pushed sky high in such a short space.

Maybe in a while though, when they iron the game out a bit. Plus a decent prize structure.

If ESL continue the way they are it will eventually grow, they are doing a good job, and I think that atleast it's sustainable.

ctf over tdm any day.

cl0ck, viju, czm, link1n, thefou to name a few.

tdm is all about camping and makes for boring games in general.

the current situation is fucked up anyway, the top teams for ctf and tdm are teams that cant be arsed to even train or play for fun but just win because of the individual skill of players. i know that the crappy support of tdm is part of the reason for this, but it still sucks and makes it kinda uninteresting to follow.

TDM ofcourse, ctf is extremly boring to watch and play nowadays, most fun to spec would be nationscup

2v2?

TDM (4 players) bored me because there are too many players for the maps, with 2v2 its almost like a variation on duel.

That's as close as I like to get, Deuce is fun tio spec with CTF also.

yea 2v2 ftw, my list would be ~

1) Duel
2) 2v2
3) TDM

In duel I can watch almost any skilllevel and be entertained.
In 2v2 id watch averege and highend games.
And in tdm I would most likely only watch the most highend games.
CTf I would not touch unless its the finals in something (maybe).

This question is,,, for right now: DUEL but...

quake is all about the nature of humans to compete, prestige,,,

id rather watch an 30.000 dollarz ffa or ctf competition than an 5.000 dollarz duel competition.... its an example, not all of my point is about the money involved.

its more a matter of where the mode stands, if its exciting to watch or not.

given all modes have equal tourneys, community etc i couldnt really tell if id pick up ctf, tdm or duel,,,, maybe tdm first because i had the best days in quake when eurocup lan finals where the place to be :P

Duel and CTF.

For me, TDM is completely uninteresting. If one team runs away with a decent lead of 20 frags, you know it's going to be difficult for the losing team to come back. In CTF, 1 cap is about 10-15 seconds worth, essentially just one mistake. TDM is only fun to watch when teams are of very equal skill, so that the gap never goes beyond 10 frags. But games like that are exceedingly rare. And even then, TDM is interesting in the final minutes, where one team has to secure a load, CTF's interesting moments are whenever one team grabs a flag with a decent stack.

I also dislike that TDM is a lot more about personal skill than teamplay. We also have a mode that's about personal skill, it's called duel.

CTF / TDM for me, I do watch duels every now and then, only for major tournaments.

TDM right now is fairly boring, most of the teams don't really practise TDM and it's mostly completely random.
CTF I find fun to watch anyway, EG vs fnatic were great games at quakecon, would love to see more regular matches.
Personaly ,i enjoy watching movies ,

TDM-CTF-DUEL is getting boring with 15 max maps been played all the time. Give us more maps and the interest about watching quake live will come again.
<< Comment #141 @ 05:40 CST, 10 January 2011 >>
i will vote ctf later..
we need a couple of new good teams tho.
